Big mistake Llama makes is placing traps in the middle of monster packs. This causes the lightning to shoot from the middle and hit monsters on one half of the pack. You want to convert monsters and then place traps next to your sin, away from the pack. This means the lightning hits the max amount of targets by shooting through the whole pack.
I did it! I died around 5-6 times,I found my self using the Shadow Warrior and Merc just to take things slower and kill more things and get some protection. Thanks for the guide! Assassin is definitely one of my favorites now.

I didn’t realize how OP the assassin could be. Traps in was my first char for d2R, and I’m really enjoying the play style. I’ll be using her to do most MF for my other characters down the road.
Just want to thank you for these guides! Back in the day there were really only 1 or 2 guides that I found helpful - I think it was NIghtfish's "Fishymancer" necro and sasja's MeteOrb sorc. These were the only guides I could find with good tips on character development - most other "guides" simply documented final builds (yeah, the first guide I tried to follow was for the MF IK Barb and of course I never found more than 3 IK pieces or something like that...maybe it was more).

Hi Llama, I just found an Um rune, what do you recommend I use it for? Maybe gloom armor as upgrade for my smoke or duress or crescent moon for my merc? Or just keep it to put in nice circlet later on?

26:00 if we already have saves on D2 and we download that mod do we loose them ? Because I could be interseted in that mod but I don't wanna loose my characters
not sure if still relevant, but you can backup the save files (copy them to different folder from installation path ... Diablo II / saves), then use the mod, and if you come back to vanilla game and the saves from the mod would not work, you can reinstall the game and use the saves from the backup.
Why didn't you use your Cloak of Shadows? It's such an amazing skill! It could help you run past things easier, avoid being surrounded and it would prevent most of stuff from shooting at you, including souls that you hate so much.
Just started my assassin watching this, good guide. I think that at 2:11:58 you should have inserted the Benny hill theme in there, I tried it and it was really funny, cheered me up.
@Dany Shaprin Putting Dol Io in a wand creates the White rune word. The runes put in the wrong order don’t work. I think Llama may have accidentally made this mistake on a past Necromancer character, but I’m unsure.
I had trouble with Act 2 and Act 3, I got managed to find a 230%ED Bec-de-Corbin and now its much easier, the merc gets one kill on Light resist spawns, then i spam my Death Sentry. I like going slow as well and killing more things.
I've really enjoyed following your series for the Assassin. But now I've gotten myself stuck at the Maggot Lair - I just can't dodge and weave well enough to avoid getting swarmed by beetles. Otherwise I have almost every advantage over your run - much higher level and Treachery rune word armor and pretty high resistances. Should I go ahead and get myself a merc?
I play hardcore ladder and try solo self found this atm, can i resepec and with lvl 70 maybe with fire DMG too? Works it? I'm lucky and found a 2traps amu, and have spirit and insight
My rune drop is strangely upped by a significant degree while watching Llama's guide... Next time I will buy lottery with this guide playing on my cell.

if using spirit cs/rhyme. . how many points do you put into burst of speed for a decent trap lay speed. just crystal sword and no levels, the trap lay speed is atrocious before making treachery. (great after treachery. but can't get rid of rhyme without cbf somewhere. death belt, ravenfrost to name a couple) . . my micro isn't good enough opening and clicking random pots to go with thawing potions.
you dont need cbf with trapsin, i literally just beat hell baal and my endgame gear was spirit, lore, pledge, vipermagi, and a bunch of rares with some res (my fire res was crap) with +4 skills from viper lore and spirit my bos was giving me plenty of ias for trap laying, even when lister decided to spawn cold enchanted

Quick question though: does lower resistance ever really work here in Hell Act 3? I can't seem to get anything out of it - and I could try wielding spirit instead. Act 3 currently has me pretty stumped - I think I just need to improve navigation skills - or maybe it really is time to bring in a merc (though I don't really enjoy managing them...)
A super late response lol, but if you are talking about lightning immune monster then yes, lowering resistance barely does anything. For monsters having 100%+ resist, anything that lowers their resists is 5 times less efficient. So if a monster has 130% cold resistance you would need a whopping 200% just to reduce it to 90% cold res. So Lower Resist wand is mostly for bringing monsters from like 70% to 30%, which more than doubles you damage. While it wouldn't have any effect on monsters with 110% res unless you are using other sources of lower res like Conviction aura, Griffin's Eye, etc.
@@78i78i Thank you for the response - I'm actually working on a D2R trapsin - this time on multiplayer - so we'll see how lightening immune guys are. I did find a table somewhere that gives the level of immunity for specific monsters at different acts - that really helps figure out where the wand has a chance of helping. Some areas you just have to "re-roll" or find some friends!
Act 4 was rough, had all seals done except the venom lords and died with my body trapped. Managed to get my body and slowly clear the the map. Diablo was freaking easy compared to every thing else!!

I noticed that there are some characters that have huge storage in your chest as well as the respec, and I looked it up, and it was because of something like a mod. Years ago, running a MF trapasin on a Mac (!)... this brings back a lot of memories. But parts of me were just screaming at the screen. Quit ignoring assassin weapons! Get a merc! Blow a point in CoS and make your life so much easier when running! Would it kill you to have a SM buddy!? And so on and so forth. And still I watched the whole video trilogy LOL
I don't know what I did wrong, but I'm just now at Hell Maggot Lair, and I'm level 76, and can't survive more than two seconds in even Nightmare Act 1. Fighting Andy in Hell took all day just trying to not get one shot. Could someone help? I have light and death traps maxed, shock web maxed, and charged bolt trap at level 18. I keep trying to use mind blast whenever I can, but nothing ever converts and my follower dies by just getting looked at. I don't know what to do and don't have any respecs left with Akara. Please help.
Google is your friend, but since you've asked (already 2 weeks ago) here it is: after you kill her the first time on a character, you don't immediately save and exit to main menu, you simply go talk to Warriv and choose to go to East (Act 2). And that does the trick. After that, you can do whatever. Andriel is bugged in a way from now on, on this character, because every time you kill her, she drops items as if she was killed for the first time and to know that she is bugged, you just have to observe if she drops any gold when killed. If she doesn't, she is glitched.

Dear Mr Llama, I just finished my assassin lv1 Normal to Hell run by following this tutorial and spend around 72 gaming hours, died 100+ times, my final assassin character level is 74. I got the Hawkmail and socketed with an all resisit but I don't have a good glove and shoes, somehow I got a very nice shield "The Ward" in Nightmare and socketed with an all resist gem. So in Hell my all resist is very good with a pair of gambled rings. I would like to share my feeling that Hell Act III is very painful for trap Assassin and I keep dying in the Spider forest and the Flying Dragon Jungle. The next painful place is the Chaos Sanctuary and I was keeping dying and dying. Finally the frozen river the Hell Arrar Summit is also my nightmare just like Mr Llama said it is very painful and I just dying very quickly. * Important good advise: Don't leveling too much before Hell like me because your level 20 trap spell damage will be overrun very quickly by high level monster tough health amount. Just dodge monsters and teleport to finish quest and Don't leveling too much. * The nightmare is quite comfortable but Hell is the painful run.
congrats! I do think leveling can actually still be useful. You can get more points to put into synergies or you can do things like shadow master to help out. Even more points in mind blast can help a lot!
@@MrLlamaSC I used to play charge paladin with my brother (with necromancer. I dunno what it's called, but he always went for full corpse explosion builds :D), but always ran out of interest after nightmare, so never EVER finished hell. :( We started again I think 2 or 3 times, but still nothing. He went through it, so that's why we had to restart. So I started again, after many years, after trying to solo with some sorceress or charge paladin, but got bored. So after all these failed attempts I decided to finally-finally finish Diablo 2 at least once! So I started my assassin, and went for Cobra Strike as my main skill (it was called something like vampire assassin. I like hitting enemies, so no way I'm gonna play trap assassin :D) I'm now level 74 and can't get through act 2. Particularly I'm struggling in the Maggot lair. (There are some immune to physical enemies and so I can't really damage them.) This was fine and dandy, I looked online for some tips how to get through, and realized I should farm some better gear. But now I hear, I should try to be low level. Am I screwed now or not? (I have 800 hp and -30/-40 immunities so I may be really screwed :D At least my body armor has 600 defense.)
I would have just made a ring honestly. Being that it's a play along that sort of thing would be an appropriate response to "I need a better ring and they wont drop"
I can see that point, but I think it's also important to show that it isn't NECESSARY and you can play the game with whatever it gives you. Some things will be better, some will be worse!

I have to admit that Hell is pretty miserable for me with this character. That is mainly because I really suck at this game even after playing it since it came out 20 years ago! Even with every advantage (I have the ladder rune words Treachery and Spirit as well as Lore and Ancient's Pledge), I'm still barely making it through each act after dying repeatedly! I think there is no substitute for skill and knowledge in this game... I probably should be playing something easy like ye olde Fishymancer which I recall getting through Hell pretty easily with back in the day...
I think assassin is still one of the easier chars to beat the game with (If you watch my naked hell run you'll see) but yeah she does require a little bit of skill to just make sure you're doing a lot of crowd control. Fishymancer is a great class if you want to relax a bit more through hell :D
@@MrLlamaSC Yeah, somehow my "Frozen River" seems to spawn with lightening immune and my nav skills are killing me LOL. I'm going to keep trying since perseverance so far has payed off thanks to your guide!
Watching this I now realize I've been playing hell completely wrong. I try to fight every mob, and haven't made it past act one underground passage! You hardly fight anything
33:00 whoever said shadow master should get his fingers broken you do NEVER EVER EVER use shadow master in Player vs Monster as trapsin you can use Shadow Warrior sure but NEVER EVER use the shadow master lmao it ruins ur trap with fire traps that deals no damage and reposition lightning traps too the last part shadow warrior can do aswell but you can control that, shadow warrior only cast the spells you got on your keybindings so if you sitting with fireblast/web on it wont cast any traps way better to control no doubt

Is there any reason you don't use Fire Blast for lightning immunes? I suspect it's because you're such a low level compared to the average playthrough and maybe you can't spare the points. I make heavy use of it with my trapsins. Souls and Beetles are easily dispached with FB.

Trapsin is an underrated starter class for farming Hell. Probably one of the most underrated classes in the game.
There is a Traps Bug, which lowers the amount of Unique Monsters. Thats why it is not the best. In D2R the Bug is deleted

Merc works, tele staff, or just slow down and fight them in halls 1 on 1!

Countess is considerably harder in D2R now. Every single one of those bow enemies is lightning immune now, and they're always with her.
Actually no the ones with the countess are cold immune the other ones around the tower are lightning immune though, you are right

It is called pluggy mod, it is completely free and safe. You can also just import the characters that are already made into pluggy mod. Go for it.

Conviction does not only lower fire, cold and lightning resistances, but also magic as well as lowering your defense rating. So, it major sucks.

Probably your attributes. Just enough strength and dexterity to equip gear. Nothing into energy. Pour everything else into vitality.
What's the Andariel glitch? What makes her always drop better?
Google is your friend, but since you've asked (already 2 weeks ago) here it is: after you kill her the first time on a character, you don't immediately save and exit to main menu, you simply go talk to Warriv and choose to go to East (Act 2). And that does the trick. After that, you can do whatever. Andriel is bugged in a way from now on, on this character, because every time you kill her, she drops items as if she was killed for the first time and to know that she is bugged, you just have to observe if she drops any gold when killed. If she doesn't, she is glitched.

Dear Mr Llama, I just finished my assassin lv1 Normal to Hell run by following this tutorial and spend around 72 gaming hours, died 100+ times, my final assassin character level is 74. I got the Hawkmail and socketed with an all resisit but I don't have a good glove and shoes, somehow I got a very nice shield "The Ward" in Nightmare and socketed with an all resist gem. So in Hell my all resist is very good with a pair of gambled rings. I would like to share my feeling that Hell Act III is very painful for trap Assassin and I keep dying in the Spider forest and the Flying Dragon Jungle. The next painful place is the Chaos Sanctuary and I was keeping dying and dying. Finally the frozen river the Hell Arrar Summit is also my nightmare just like Mr Llama said it is very painful and I just dying very quickly. * Important good advise: Don't leveling too much before Hell like me because your level 20 trap spell damage will be overrun very quickly by high level monster tough health amount. Just dodge monsters and teleport to finish quest and Don't leveling too much. * The nightmare is quite comfortable but Hell is the painful run.

congrats! I do think leveling can actually still be useful. You can get more points to put into synergies or you can do things like shadow master to help out. Even more points in mind blast can help a lot!
@@MrLlamaSC I used to play charge paladin with my brother (with necromancer. I dunno what it's called, but he always went for full corpse explosion builds :D), but always ran out of interest after nightmare, so never EVER finished hell. :( We started again I think 2 or 3 times, but still nothing. He went through it, so that's why we had to restart.
So I started again, after many years, after trying to solo with some sorceress or charge paladin, but got bored. So after all these failed attempts I decided to finally-finally finish Diablo 2 at least once! So I started my assassin, and went for Cobra Strike as my main skill (it was called something like vampire assassin. I like hitting enemies, so no way I'm gonna play trap assassin :D) I'm now level 74 and can't get through act 2. Particularly I'm struggling in the Maggot lair. (There are some immune to physical enemies and so I can't really damage them.) This was fine and dandy, I looked online for some tips how to get through, and realized I should farm some better gear. But now I hear, I should try to be low level. Am I screwed now or not? (I have 800 hp and -30/-40 immunities so I may be really screwed :D At least my body armor has 600 defense.)
I had no idea there were essences to collect. Always learning here.
I would have just made a ring honestly. Being that it's a play along that sort of thing would be an appropriate response to "I need a better ring and they wont drop"
I can see that point, but I think it's also important to show that it isn't NECESSARY and you can play the game with whatever it gives you. Some things will be better, some will be worse!

I have to admit that Hell is pretty miserable for me with this character. That is mainly because I really suck at this game even after playing it since it came out 20 years ago! Even with every advantage (I have the ladder rune words Treachery and Spirit as well as Lore and Ancient's Pledge), I'm still barely making it through each act after dying repeatedly! I think there is no substitute for skill and knowledge in this game... I probably should be playing something easy like ye olde Fishymancer which I recall getting through Hell pretty easily with back in the day...
I think assassin is still one of the easier chars to beat the game with (If you watch my naked hell run you'll see) but yeah she does require a little bit of skill to just make sure you're doing a lot of crowd control. Fishymancer is a great class if you want to relax a bit more through hell :D
@@MrLlamaSC Yeah, somehow my "Frozen River" seems to spawn with lightening immune and my nav skills are killing me LOL. I'm going to keep trying since perseverance so far has payed off thanks to your guide!

33:00 whoever said shadow master should get his fingers broken you do NEVER EVER EVER use shadow master in Player vs Monster as trapsin you can use Shadow Warrior sure but NEVER EVER use the shadow master lmao it ruins ur trap with fire traps that deals no damage and reposition lightning traps too the last part shadow warrior can do aswell but you can control that, shadow warrior only cast the spells you got on your keybindings so if you sitting with fireblast/web on it wont cast any traps way better to control no doubt

Is there any reason you don't use Fire Blast for lightning immunes? I suspect it's because you're such a low level compared to the average playthrough and maybe you can't spare the points. I make heavy use of it with my trapsins. Souls and Beetles are easily dispached with FB.
