just wanted to add, on the DIY/artistic part. Spoonflower is epic! You can upload your own graphic and have it printed. That means if you can draw, you can make your drawing into a tail!
I'm not entirely sure, (I'm really not some sort of fabric expert unless you tell me to figure out which is spandex and which is polyester) but I think it could be spandex or neoprene. Her website doesn't specify. :)
Mermaid Summer well spandex is more like a swimsuit material, neoprene is more like a wetsuit material. Neoprene is thicker and retains body heat well.
No offense to Sun Tails, but they kind of copied Fin Fun. Fin Fun came out with the Mermaidiens first and then Sun Tails took the idea and called it there own. They are very similar, and that's why Fin Fun and Sun Tails aren't the best of friends. Also, did you know Swim Tails doesn't put covers on the monofin? It scratches easily. Anything at that low a price will prooobably be a hybrid of silicone and neoprene. (And if you're lucky, with a mesh between the two that should increase durability and stretch.) If you find a FULL silicone tail at that price, that would be either a; a scam, or b; probably veeeerrrry poorly made- unless it's a braaaand new company looking to test their designs and are offering them at a ridiculously deep discount. :)
The less expesnsive ones are usually hybrids of neoprene and silicone, using a base of neoprene and a silicone topper for texture & realism. The MerTailor makes hybrids, as does his recent splitapart (they once worked together, but Matthew Merrowfins defected and began his own compnay), and FinFolk Productions has just come out w/a new line called their MythicTails- super hybrids w/resin scales and silicone fins & flukes built onto a fabric base. :) Prices may vary depending on maker and the tail options you choose (paint, number of fins, etc.). A great place to look up different tail makers is MerNetwork's tail maker forum section. :) Hope that helps!
SO MANY TAILS!! I have the Planet Mermaid tail 'Sunset Splash'! It is so cool! I definitely recommend either 'Fin Fun' or 'Planet Mermaid'. I think you would have a great time in them.
Yep, anything sent to and from Australia is very expensive. That one time I bought spandex from Spandex World, the shipping cost more than my fabrics! We are so limited in what we can get here, its not fair sometimes.
Great video! I have not tried the others but I do have two FinFun monofins (the original and the AMP) as well as tailskins and leggings. I originally ordered the more advanced AMP monofin, discovered it was EPIC trying to get arthritic size ten women's feet into them (yaaaaaas, there are fattish old lady mermaids). I contacted customer service and quickly got a helpful reply: they told me the original monofin is more flexible and has one foot pocket so easier to get into, and how to return the other. Stuff ships quickly too. I saw a review on The Mermaid Seamstress about the AMP, same issue with BIG feet, butshe said it worked well IN the water (separate foot pockets and foot pad = greater stability) so I decided to try it on a few more times... then swim in it. It works fabulously but I would not recommend for any foot size bigger than ten women's. Their other items are fabulous. The leggings can be worn with dive fins in places which do not allow monofins (so you can still mermaid)... or wear the leggings as sunscreen for beach swimming or kayaking. So far FinFun is the best bang for the buck I've seen. Also, many of their tails are great for male or female merrows (that's an old Irish word for merfolk). Mermaid on!

I just got a "damaged" monofin for half off (so $30; it looks fine and still has a year warranty) and after deciding I liked it I just ordered a fabric skin for $30 on a current sale, as well, but they have half off returned skins listed, too. As far as I've seen they're the most affordable entry into mermaiding, I'm so thrilled I found them and didn't shell out (hehe) hundreds right away.
I definitely agree with you about fin fun. I always buy from there and I also got my friends to buy there’s from there too. I have tiger lilly and my friend has Bahama blush. We both love our tails.

Update; THE TAIL SUCKS AND IS MADE OF A HORRIBLE MATERIAL. DO NOT SHOP FROM AMAZON! I got the pink and purple finis monofin off of amazon, and it is sadly too small for my foot size (size 9 but only because my feet have literally no arch, and they splat outwards when I walk). I really want a different tail and monofin, but I have no money to do so. I want to get either a suntails or a finfun because I think they might be better quality.

Swimtails has evolved much since this video and 90% of their new and old selection of tails have a 4-5 star rating. They're pricey but if you want a high-end fabric tail then they're a great Mermaid Tail designer line. Not hating on the video though it helped me a lot in 2016 which in that year I purchased a tail from Fin Fun.
I've had 2 finfun tails ( fabric ) and the monofin ( clear plastic ) breaks easily , but the monofin pro is harder to break and haven't broken. The bad thing about the tails on fabric is it gets holes but I knew it would happen eventually but the end where the monofin is rips easily . But it's a nice tail
I have a tail from swim tails. I agree not the best customer service, but I did get my tail. I'm a relatively good swimmer and it works pretty well for me. Ot took I think a month ish to get it maybe a bit more. And I can't take out the monofin
All Hollows Eve you don't need to get a fin fun mermaid tale because I got one for like $15 and it's exactly the same don't waste your money I got a mono fin for $12.13 I suggest you look on eBay before you go to fin fun because their tails are like $149😇😇😇😇😇😇😋I so don't waste your money just look on eBay first and find your tail
May I Suggest Miami Beach Mermaids. They are customisable mermaid tails or you can get already made ones. They can also be made to fir any monofin i took my Fin Fun Monofin and since my fin fun tail wore out. I used a Miami Beach Mermaid tail.
My issue with 2tails is they use to sell big fluke tails and they don't anymore and when I bought my first big fluke tails I got a matching top and swim bottom which they no longer sell the matching color to the tail I bought.

Fun fun has cheap tails but good quality and to only have to get the monofin once except when you move to a 12 (size) monofin pro. Other then that the tail is about $ 54.90

You should try to review the pro or hudra tails from swimtails, they use mahina and the look very nice. A littoe on the priceyer side, but they look ver nice and swim very nice.

I need help!!! I want to take a mermaid class but I don't which tail to buy. I'm a 13 year old girl and I'm also kind of short. Do you have any suggestions? I thought that the Lorelei mermaid tail from mermaid tailor would be good but I really don't know.

I'm gonna make my own but I need to get a new monofin because the other one I have is lace up except my teeny little feet are too short for the laces so they just rub instead :')

I have a swimtails tail it's very easy to get holes in it and the color leaks other than that it's a decant tail

I had a 2 tails mermaid tail and it was TERRIBLE after using it after a couple weeks it started ripping rlly badly like RLLY BADLY the color was fading and where u put your feet in the strap was ripping.
Hey, I've got another tail company, it's DutchTails, i don't know that much about them but i think they're pretty good. They have printed and plain tails and a big choice in colors🎨🌈❤️

I own a mermaid tail. if anybody is even reading this comment the I would definitely suggest fin fun mermaid tails. the monofins are really comfortable and they designs are great and realistic. they are perfect for first time tail buyers

You should try to review the pro or hudra tails from swimtails, they use mahina and the look very nice. A littoe on the priceyer side, but they look ver nice and swim very nice.
