Great for live. I have two on my kit for floor tom’s and 604 for smaller tom’s. The clip mount is amazing for keeping this out of the way. The 421 MD has a full sound. It’s compact design and sound is worth the price! These will hold value for years!
the original sounds, well like a 421 II ... the smaller more compact version sounds literally identical to my ears as the e604 mics (which are fantastic by the way). but for studio recording, go for the original 421 (mark II) and don't think twice about it, just do it. there's a reason everyone uses them for toms in the studio. my humble opinion.
A great idea, finally realized. I'd be interested to hear the Kompakt compared to a 604 and/or a 904 on toms. I would imagine all 3 sound great but it would be kind of an interesting test to see if there are glaring differences in terms of tone or gain. Really cool to see that the Kompakt comes in a fair bit cheaper than the full size one too! I bet we start seeing a lot more of these being used, now that they're not so huge, and can be used with a drum clamp. Bravo Sennheiser Also, don't sleep on the 421 (either version) as a snare mic! My last session, I used a Beyer m201 as the snare top, but also put a 421 (full size, the mk II) as a snare side/shell mic and it sounded great, ended up blending a fair bit of it with the top and bottom mics.
Gute Arbeit Aggi! Die sind auf jeden Fall einen näheren Blick wert. Besonders nachdem alles, was an den alten Rasierern richtig genervt hat (Größe, Music-Sprache-Switch und die elende Klemme) endlich gehen durfte.
421-II sounds fatter with more detail. Preferred it to the Kompact. (Listening nearfield through a pair of Geithein RL 906 via Dangerous Convert-2 D/A).

Ach, danke dir Sven 🙏🏻☺️
Good drums + good mics = Eargasm lol. Amazing review! great job!
real nice and well made video. Everybody can make his/her mind and have an objective overall look at the new compacts. Very good microphones!
Very good video: concise and detailed at the same time. Thank you! 👏🙂👍
Great review - thanks, guys! And (sorry, absolutely no offense intended) some proper English, too. Keep it up! ☺️🤘🏻
Great video.
For almost half the price you get almost half the sound
