- A soul flies ...
6th Allemande is one of my favourite piece. It is not written for 4 stringed cello so technically bazaar and difficult. Some chords and melodies are difficult to play but must become effortlessly part of a beautiful legato line.
It would've been easier to play in a small room but when I think about playing it in the hall, there´s always a struggle finding the sound that fits, and the sound that I like. Allemande is better because you can find the sound you like while playing a long tone, but Prelude is always moving forward, very simple triplet with many string crossing with different meanings, and I still struggle to find the right sound. Playing near to the fingerboard and to have airy sound would be nicer from place to place but then I feel the volume and also the color of tone is missing. When the venue is big I would want a thicker sound so I get down to the bridge trying to play full sound but the string crossing gets not very smooth.
But maybe the solution is not to think about technique so much but to think more about music and phrase itself and to play cello always with a completely relaxed body, full body, using full bow.
I try to play in a nervous state of mind because in practice it is better and maybe thinking too much of it, makes playing a little rigid as well.
but anyways in a week or two I think there would be a noticeable improvement.
