just so you have the background on my tears ricochet Taylor’s manager who she’d worked with since she was a teenager sold the rights to her music for $300 million without giving her the opportunity to buy them first. She loved him like family and felt very portrayed and it was a very traumatic time for her so my tears ricochet is about that.
Loved this reaction! I think you’d really like Cowboy Like Me, You’re Loosing Me, The Great War, Maroon, Peter, So Long London, loml, New Years Day, Clean, Cardigan, Champagne Problems, My Tears Ricochet, Cornelius Street, False God, Next Great American Dynasty (true story about Rebekah Harkness and Taylor at the end), All Too Well… there’s so so many more.
Even if you don't post a reaction you should definitely listen to this on the long pond session, it's soooo much better' ( in my opinion of course) my tears ricochet is also beautiful 🥺
Love long pond! But my favorite folklore moment is during the eras tour... I think her going from August to Illicit Affairs and then into My Tears Ricochet 🤯😱 my fav part of eras outside of TTPD
If you have a big thing for metaphors and imagery, you have come to the RIGHT PLACE. That is Taylor's specialty. I totally understand how radio singles have left you with the impression that Taylor's music is not for you. Tbh, I don't know why she *never* puts out a song like this as a single. It would change a lot of preconceived notions about her, imo. A few other jewels: My Tears Ricochet (Long Pond Sessions is fantastic), The Lakes, Peace, Ivy, Cowboy Like Me, Carolina, Evermore (also with Bon Iver), loml, How Did It End.
Metaphors and imagery you say, Taylor has a lot of songs like that. This is from her folklore album, there is a sister album called evermore, she wrote them during the pandemic, they came out within 5 months of each other and she dropped the albums in their entirety and only gave a few hour's notice that it was going to be dropped. Taylor has many hidden gems in her older discography too. I am subscribing for more Taylor content. Taylor has 11 albums, 273 songs. There is another song you might like and it is from her earlier years (from her Red album) called "The Last Time" featuring Gary Lightbody (from Snow Patrol), it has that same back and forth as exile. I also second those other suggestions. Great reaction, thank you for giving Taylor a chance.
I totally agree. I had been missing out on all of Taylor’s best music, bc all I knew was her pop music that I heard playing in stores, etc, and I didn’t like it. Then after Midnights came out a couple years ago, a friend who I never thought would like Taylor was telling me how good the album was. I gave it a listen and my mind was blown. I went all the way down the rabbit hole and listened to every album and got sucked into all the “lore” and am a massive fan now. I recommend the following for you: Maroon, The One, Fresh Out the Slammer, imgonnagetyouback, The Black Dog, The Great War, My Tears Ricochet, Coney Island, My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys
Thank you for being so mature and speaking the truth. There a lot of swifties that are happy to provide suggestions based on your preferences. Don’t judge the fan base by some of the loudest members. ❤
Folklore: The Long Pond Studios session seems like it would be right up your alley...there's even a raw version of this song on there. The Folklore album even has a trilogy (love triangle) from each perspective of the involved parties: "Cardigan", "August", and "Betty"....or "My Tears Ricochet", a song with the underlying story about her pain of losing her masters and the loss of her relationship with her first Record Label...."This is Me Trying", a song about the daily struggle of someone with addiction and poor mental health.. just to name a few of the deeper meaning songs on the Folklore album (an album that doesn't get enough radio play because it doesn't have the poppiness of the 1989 album, it's more storytelling)
I think you’d get the goosebumps if you watched the mv of Exile from The Long Pond Studio sessions, ‘cos it’s live, though Taylor & Bon Iver are in different states/studios, it’s definitely worth a watch, the whole video is great, every song has a brief explanation, byway of a conversation between Taylor & Jack Antinoff, the sentiment behind her writing shows the depth of thought each song is underpinned by.
I LITERALLY just told my friend who said she doesn't like Taylor to try her "not singles" because her albums are so amazing and Taylor is so much more than her popular songs 😍 i recommended thanK you aIMee because i thought she'd enjoy it! Then i told her to try my favorite albums, Folklore/Evermore. Literally listen to those two every single day. They're like crack.
"All Too Well (10 minute version)" from the vault tracks on the Red album (Taylor's version or TV), a HUGE fan favorite that doesn't get any radio playing time (the Tay-lore is it's about her relationship and fall out with Jack Gyllenhaal who was 29 and she was 20 when they dated), there's even a short film for the song that Taylor directed......also on this album in the vault tracks is a song "Ronan", a very sad song but one that deserves to be listened to (even if it's off camera) because Taylor gave writing credits to the mother of Ronan so that some of the royalty money would go the foundation that his mother set up in his honor after his battle with cancer. During his battle, his mom posted a blog that Taylor followed and she was so moved by her stories, the song Ronan was created. She's only performed this song twice since its conception because of the heaviness (once at a Stand up to Cancer fundraiser, and the other time during a live tour performance that Ronan's mother was attending in the audience). There's also the famous "Dear John..." from her Speak Now album (TV) (although her live performance from the Speak Now tour is amazing and you can see her sass behind the lyrics) (Tay-lore is it's about John Mayer, who was 32 and she was 19 when they dated, and their let's be honest "grooming" relationship)...the sequel to this song is "Would've, Could've, Should've" from her Midnights 3am addition album which is Taylor's perspective looking back on their relationship now as a 32 year old (it's even song 19 😅, oh Taylor) If you want some more fun (diss) tracks, on her TTPD (the tortured poets department) album there are 2 songs that stand out: " thanK u aIMee" (Tay-lore is it's about Kim K because of her involvement with editing the recording of the phone call Kanye made to Taylor made to look like he was asking permission to call her a "Bi**h" in his song and she was cool with it).....and "The smallest Man Who Ever Lived" (Tay-lore is it's about Matty Healy, a situationship that had a lasting impact on Taylor and how he acted)
UA-cam Swifties are incredible at picking songs for reactors, once they have a couple reactions to go on. They sure got me, now I'm one of them 😂. No-one expects you to like every song, just to give it a fair shot, which you're doing. Everyone saying My Tears Ricochet (long ponds studio session) are 100% correct. I would also like to suggest Carolina, which was written after she read the book Where The Crawdads Sing and then recorded in one take, using instruments contemporary to the time period. When the film was announced, she offered it up for the soundtrack. The running joke is she was the only person involved in that movie who understood the book.
Try the following- Castles Crumbling, My Tears Ricochet (Long pond or studio), False God (SNL), Carolina, Epiphany, All the Girls You’ve Loved Before, Safe and Sound, The Prophecy, Need, Don’t Blame Me (Reputation Tour), Cornelia Street & Death by a Thousand Cuts (Live in Paris), Dancing with Our Hands Tied, etc
if you like these types of songs you would LOVE her albums folklore and evermore, metaphor and imagery is taylor's whole thing and it's the exact reason why she's so loved by many, you just gotta look past the radio singles and actually listen to her albums. i've seen so many reactors here that started off reacting to her with a lot of prejudices and judgements and see all of it fade away once they've given her a chance and keep reacting to her music and i think that's what will happen with you too! i think my tears ricochet or champagne problems would be good choice for your next reaction:)
100% (on all counts). If you like this song then you’ll likely like the whole (majority) Folklore album. I prefer the Long Pond Sessions with the little explanation interview before each song (interesting) and its live (she can actually sing). It’s interesting that out of all of her songs you chose “I hate it here” from TTPD 🤔 I mean, I like the song relative to the album but I’m not sure I’d go to it on its own? 🤔 I don’t think it’s the case with every album of hers but for TTPD, think it’s best listened to in order. IMO. My journey was slow bc I didn’t really like her radio hits either even if I found them clever (now I do like them bc I understand her sense of humor). I’m pretty sure it was “Don’t Blame Me” live (3 from her Reputation Tour so good) when I realized that I was wrong about her and it opened me up to actually discovering her talent. Then I felt dumb 🤣 I see some are suggesting “Tolerate It” (😢 but good). Her live from Paris versions of Death By a Thousand Cuts and Cornelia Street (better than studio versions). Lover (video super sweet). Have fun ;)
Facts. This was my 1st Taylor Swift song that made me start my own rabbit hole. Now I’m a full blown Swiftie. I know everything about TTPD and I’m so here for it. She’s so beautiful and talented. An actual genius with an IQ of 160 and a PhD. She deserves every bit of the accolades she gets. 100%. She’s beyond her years in lyricism and vocabulary.
Let's just say I was given some bad advice. :) I have since learned from those mistakes and I'm good to go on this journey now. I've found the right people. ;) I'm sure I'll see you in the next Taylor video I do, whenever that is haha. I'm intrigued to keep going!
Oh my god! Taylor's songwriting is literally the epitome of metaphor and imagery. Everyone already suggested some of her songs in the comment so I'll just add one; Champagne Problems. I hope you like it. Great reaction. 🩷
I feel like you'd enjoy all of The Long Pond Studio Sessions. She wrote Folklore during the lockdown and they recorded it remotely and finally got together to play it all the way through at Long Pond. They talk about each song before playing it. Exile is on there and Justin Vernon of Bon Iver sings from his studio in WI. Very cool.
Sounds like you’ll really like her album Folklore. I recommend watching the Long Pond studio version of her songs off Folklore. (Originally on Disney plus, now on UA-cam I’m sure). She speaks about each song with her producer giving insight into the meaning of the lyrics. It’s great to include that blurb followed by them recording that song in the studio which is a little stripped down. Taylor in her thirties is flexing her poetry muscles for sure!
I feel like you actually were my inner monologue for this whole reaction. Loved this! I have to echo "My Tears Ricochet." I love love love watching her perform it on the Eras tour for even more of a powerful effect, but since this is my first video of yours, I'm not sure if you react to live. Time to binge and find out. Great video/commentary!
Please review the Folklore album. Some of her best storytelling and lyric writing. When you review one of her albums, for fun, read the Prologue that Taylor writes for every album, it explains her state of mind when writing the songs, etc. I enjoyed your video and it will be fun to watch your journey.
I have a history with addiction (my dad) & her song “This is Me Trying”, “Peter” is good if you’re a literary human, “All Too Well” is great but I’d suggest watching the short film version with it. “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” is brilliant & might pass your goosebumps test. Now, for one that will have you sobbing uncontrollably, “Ronan”. This is just a list acquired over the years. I’m more of a rock person but a few of her songs are really good.
This Is Me Trying from her long pond studio sessions. MAKE SURE you listen to the intro…. Where she explains her headspace when when she wrote the song. Long pond studio sessions were live recordings of her folklore album…that entire album is 🔥 some of her very best songwriting.
Ahhh Exile is so good. The folklore/evermore sister albums are both beautiful. Theyre worth a full listen. The Long Pond Studio recordings of folklore are great. She explains the songwriting and lyrics before each song and they’re stripped down versions recorded during quarantine.
Thank you for being transparent in your feelings! On UA-cam us swifties will understand you not loving everything we just want you to try it and tell us what you think without bashing her immensely which you’re not doing ❤ you don’t deserve any hate WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE REACTIONS I AGREE - the lakes - the black dog - epiphany - willow - tolerate it (live performances at eras tour IS FUCKING AMAZING) Anything from evermore and folklore Love ya!
She’s actually so clever you haven’t even touched the iceberg yet. The fact that she is so clever with her Easter eggs, which is her hiding future things in songs or outfits or music videos. It takes so much cleverness and creativeness to do what she does with her Easter egg hiding stuff All of her songs usually have a story in a meeting behind them so if you like that in the whole imagery thing, she’s gonna be right up your alley
I think people get so defensive of Taylor and her music because of how many people say they don’t like her music based just on radio hits and they don’t listen to/ aren’t willing to listen anything else. Appreciate you being open to listening to more!
I really think if you want to do an album, I would recommend Speak Now as one of her older albums, which has a little bit more of a country rock sound and/or Folklore which Exile is on. You will love them both and probably Folklore's sister album, Evermore as well (Both were created and surprise dropped during the pandemic in 2020) . I agree with everyone else who's going to say watch the Long Pond Studio sessions to hear the whole Folklore album live (trust me, Taylor live is almost always better than the studio version!) Swifties are great at figuring out what a reactor particularly will like from Taylor and then we get better at recommending things for you😉 This was fun! 🫶
Haha I have a few different fanbases that are here, that are becoming my own fanbases (wooooo) that are learning how to know what I like. I'm sure you all will be exactly the same. I think I already have my next one too. :) You shall wait and see!
If you love metaphorical lyrics, you definitely need to listen to more Taylor. She’s a lyrical genius. This is coming from someone like you, up until 2 years ago, only knew what I heard on the radio from her. Once I dove in to see what all the hype was about, my mind was absolutely blown by her brilliance. I will say that several, but not all, of her songs make so much more sense when you know the lore and who they’re about. Two examples, I highly recommend listening to “Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve” which is about her relationship with John Meyer when she was only 19 and he was 32 and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” which is about lead singer Matty Healy of the band The 1975. Some other songs I highly recommend are “I Did Something Bad”, “Maroon”, “I Know Places”, “Ivy”, “Red”, “Dress”, “You’re Losing Me” and “Don’t Blame Me” along with the other amazing songs other people recommended in the comments. Strap in my friend…you’re in for a pleasant surprise that just might convert you into a Swiftie. It happened to me so I’m just sayin!
You should definitely listen to My Tears Ricochet or This Is Me Trying it’s also from the same album as this song which is Folklore everyone has different type of music they like it just takes some time to find the song or album that is for you and from what I can tell it’s definitely Folklore and Evermore and maybe some of TTPD
Exile is the end of James' and Betty's story, the answer to the question of whether Betty accepted James apology and let him back into her life (for the James-Betty story, see Taylor's trilogy Cardigan, August, Betty on the same album as Exile, i.e., Folklore). My interpretation is that Betty did take James back, but then a few/maybe several years later, in Exile, Betty finally goes out the side door.
I’ve tried to go back and see what you’ve already done but here’s my choices for you: 1. End Game Ft Future and Ed Sheeran 2. I Did Something Bad Rep Tour live version These 2 are off the charts for me. 😅 3. Watch the making of the All Too Well MV and then the actual short film she wrote, directed and sang 4. Long Pond Studio sessions 5. Watch the movie Miss Americana to get a Birds Eye view of who she is under all the drama.
Please please react to Tolerate It or The Lakes. The first is based on 'Rebecca' by Daphne du Maurier and it is so beautifully written; the latter has so many literary references and is my absolute favourite. They're both pretty similar to exile in terms of storytelling and I think you'd like them. :) Really enjoyed this reaction - thank you!
Since you liked Exile and have a thing for metaphors, I would recommend Cornelia Street Live from Paris. One of her best live performances and an incredibly written song. ❤
Taylor suggestions: "Intro + ...Ready For It?" live from Reputation Stadium Tour "False God" live on Saturday Night Live The entire album 'Evermore' start to finish, no skips. My pick for her best album. The last song (title track) is another Bon Iver feature, and it's incredible. Love your honest reactions and your general vibe. You earned a new sub.
There is a reason I am not on, nor will ever join Tik Tok. That shit is beyond toxic. It's pronounced Bon Ee-ver (like the French), but I don't think they are too precious about it. The lead singer is Justin Vernon. I've been a Bon Iver fan for at least 10 years (I know his older music better) and that higher falsetto is his signature sound. I think there were MANY Bon Iver fans, including myself for SURE, that were SHOOK when they heard his low register. It's very, very, very different for him and I think this song brought him a whole new generation of fans. They've just released a 3 or 4 track EP and I think you'd enjoy those songs too 😊
One more thing - if you're intending on going down a Taylor rabbit hole, you DEF need to check out live performances as well. Live Taylor is the best Taylor, trust.
To hopefully get you excited... Fortnight is a decent song. It's even really good paired with the music video... It's probably one of the weakest 3 - 5 max slightly weaker songs on a 31 track album. I suspect you are closer to my own personal taste in Swift's music. The pop hits are bangers that are fun... But the stuff I REALLY go for are the country ballads and the folksy/indie/blues styles she's crafted more recently in her career. I see you are in very good hands with a bunch of the recommendations people have given here already. Looking forward to following your journey and to check what other music you react to 😊
If you want another song suggestion, not just an album suggestion, I would recommend Tolerate It and My Tears Ricochet-you will absolutely love those!
Yep
just so you have the background on my tears ricochet Taylor’s manager who she’d worked with since she was a teenager sold the rights to her music for $300 million without giving her the opportunity to buy them first. She loved him like family and felt very portrayed and it was a very traumatic time for her so my tears ricochet is about that.
Dang I forgot "Tolerate It" on my synopsis of suggestions...great song recommendation!
Yes! Tolerate It live version from the Eras tour specifically.
@@amandalower8783 Thanks! 🫶
Tolerate it, Peter, the prophecy, my tears ricochet…so many
MAROON. I promise you won’t be disappointed. The lyrics are insane
My Tears Ricochet for suuuuure
For the metaphors
The Black Dog, The Lakes, Peace, You’re Losing Me, Tolerate It, Cowboy Like Me, False God so many recs I think you would love
My tears ricochet
Loved this reaction! I think you’d really like Cowboy Like Me, You’re Loosing Me, The Great War, Maroon, Peter, So Long London, loml, New Years Day, Clean, Cardigan, Champagne Problems, My Tears Ricochet, Cornelius Street, False God, Next Great American Dynasty (true story about Rebekah Harkness and Taylor at the end), All Too Well… there’s so so many more.
Cowboy like me Stan’s unite!
Even if you don't post a reaction you should definitely listen to this on the long pond session, it's soooo much better' ( in my opinion of course) my tears ricochet is also beautiful 🥺
AGREED. long pond session is so good!
Love long pond! But my favorite folklore moment is during the eras tour... I think her going from August to Illicit Affairs and then into My Tears Ricochet 🤯😱 my fav part of eras outside of TTPD

I appreciate an intelligent reaction to Taylor Swift. I’m here for more reactions!
I LITERALLY just told my friend who said she doesn't like Taylor to try her "not singles" because her albums are so amazing and Taylor is so much more than her popular songs 😍 i recommended thanK you aIMee because i thought she'd enjoy it! If you want some more fun (diss) tracks, on her TTPD (the tortured poets department) album there are 2 songs that stand out: " thanK u aIMee" (Tay-lore is it's about Kim K because of her involvement with editing the recording of the phone call Kanye made to Taylor made to look like he was asking permission to call her a "Bi**h" in his song and she was cool with it).....and "The smallest Man Who Ever Lived" (Tay-lore is it's about Matty Healy, a situationship that had a lasting impact on Taylor and how he acted)
I think you will love the album Folklore and probably many songs on Tortured Poets. My Tears Ricochet Long Pond Session should be up next!
Loml, guilty as sin, down bad, omg sooo many. But I really love to hear loml offical lyric video. The pen.
She is queen of metaphors
UA-cam Swifties are incredible at picking songs for reactors, once they have a couple reactions to go on. They sure got me, now I'm one of them 😂.
No-one expects you to like every song, just to give it a fair shot, which you're doing.
Everyone saying My Tears Ricochet (long ponds studio session) are 100% correct.

When the film was announced, she offered it up for the soundtrack. The running joke is she was the only person involved in that movie who understood the book.
Carolina is slept on!
Yes! She paints a picture! Her play on words is amazing! Like she said-I put narcotics in my songs!
You really need to go down the Taylor rabbit hole. She is amazing at all she does: Lyrics, MV, and Live. Please do more! Great reactions.
Thank you for bringing open. Enjoyed this!! I’m here for it. I agree some songs just speak louder to each person different. Chef”s kiss

My tears ricochet...check out the long pond seasons, tollerate it, Peter, the prophecy, so long London, LOMl, maroon.... oh god so many
This is my trying but the long pond studio with the intro

Now, for one that will have you sobbing uncontrollably, “Ronan”. This is just a list acquired over the years. I’m more of a rock person but a few of her songs are really good.
Love your interpretations. Most of Taylor's songs are relationship lessons. Thanks for this one.
I'd suggest, "My boy only breaks his favorite toys"
On UA-cam us swifties will understand you not loving everything we just want you to try it and tell us what you think without bashing her immensely which you’re not doing ❤ you don’t deserve any hate
WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE REACTIONS
I AGREE
- the lakes
- the black dog
- epiphany
- willow
- tolerate it (live performances at eras tour IS FUCKING AMAZING)
Anything from evermore and folklore
Love ya!
She’s actually so clever you haven’t even touched the iceberg yet. The fact that she is so clever with her Easter eggs, which is her hiding future things in songs or outfits or music videos. It takes so much cleverness and creativeness to do what she does with her Easter egg hiding stuff
All of her songs usually have a story in a meeting behind them so if you like that in the whole imagery thing, she’s gonna be right up your alley
I agree with everyone else who's going to say watch the Long Pond Studio sessions to hear the whole Folklore album live (trust me, Taylor live is almost always better than the studio version!)
Swifties are great at figuring out what a reactor particularly will like from Taylor and then we get better at recommending things for you😉 This was fun!
My Tears Ricochet
But Daddy I Love Him
The Prophecy
You should definitely check out the Long Pond Sessions . She explains her process and thoughts behind the songs .
Oooh, All too Well 10 min version is one of her best!
Communication and LISTENING are key.
I’m not a huge Taylor fan, but this one gets stuck in my head. ❤
You picked a great collab to react to. Would love to see you react to more Taylor. 🫶🏻 More of the deep cuts aka not the overplayed radio bops.
Great point at the beginning. I love that you said that.
I'm here for a Swifty rabbit hole!! Subscribing!
Exile is by far my favorite. ❤
I agree with tolerate it, my tears ricochet and illicit affairs!!
I’ve tried to go back and see what you’ve already done but here’s my choices for you:
1. End Game Ft Future and Ed Sheeran
2. I Did Something Bad Rep Tour live version
These 2 are off the charts for me. 😅
3. Watch the making of the All Too Well MV and then the actual short film she wrote, directed and sang
4. Long Pond Studio sessions
5. Watch the movie Miss Americana to get a Birds Eye view of who she is under all the drama.
I can't believe no one has yet suggested The Great War but please listen to it, I'm sure you'll love it.
Taylor suggestions:
"Intro + ...Ready For It?" live from Reputation Stadium Tour
"False God" live on Saturday Night Live
The entire album 'Evermore' start to finish, no skips. My pick for her best album. The last song (title track) is another Bon Iver feature, and it's incredible.
Love your honest reactions and your general vibe. You earned a new sub.
Maybe do the love triangle on folklore with Betty, August and Cardigan. August is one of my favorites from Tay
Another good one from Tortured Poets Department is LOML
I have to say it...check out Taylor's Longpond Sessions...it is PURE...loved this reaction!!!
Cardigan, Carolina
🔥
idk if anyone else has tried to clarify yet, but bon iver, is pronounced "ban eevehr"
that's the best way i could put it, lol
My Tear's Ricochet needs to happen?
To hopefully get you excited... Fortnight is a decent song. It's even really good paired with the music video... It's probably one of the weakest 3 - 5 max slightly weaker songs on a 31 track album.
I suspect you are closer to my own personal taste in Swift's music. The pop hits are bangers that are fun... But the stuff I REALLY go for are the country ballads and the folksy/indie/blues styles she's crafted more recently in her career.
I see you are in very good hands with a bunch of the recommendations people have given here already.
Looking forward to following your journey and to check what other music you react to 😊
Folklore and Midnights are good albums
❤
You might like would’ve could’ve should’ve.
Swiftie here🫶
Carolina
FALSE GOD please please PLEASE. And anything off Folklore or Reputation.
I could be wrong, but I think it should be pronounced “bone ee-vair.”
