This is now one of my favorite videos of this performance! Hey, DCI: we like these, okay? We think these angles are cool and worth seeing. They also have potential educational value to teachers and performers, so there's that too.
I just love pit videos like this that you can see all of the other mallet players down the line so it just looks like they're a mirror tunnel all playing identically
Cool angle of one of the best marching shows I've seen. The jump at the end is amazing and seeing it from this angle was fun. Top notch performance by this percussionist too.
Honestly, one of the most impressive things about this is how it's nearly impossible to tell when he messes up, the string hit and the mallet fumble for examples, He just comes in/keeps playing as if nothing happened, maintaining complete composure.
Jeffery Bybee no. I know it's an opinion, but anyone who says that is either stupid or hasn't watched all of fellinisque. And I'm more of a bluecoats fan. This is still really good no doubt. But they were competing against such a crazy good show.
Okay someone needs to tell me; I noticed this guy last year too but what the hell is that man on the sideline supposed to be doing with his arm up in the air at the beginning?
Mr. Tony Dicarlo. I think it has something to do with keeping track of timing for shows. Making sure no one runs over, or something to that degree. I could ask him when I see him next.
Ryan Enos No. When you have a show that has a running start, nothing before the announcement is judged. If you find the 2011 Cadets drum tape they play at least a minute of music and eventually Prosperie goes "alright lets go" and then starts judging. That's what the symbol is for. To let the judging officially begin.
Peter Hilborn I'm just basing that off of what is on the website (which is what is currently being manufactured). I know that tape colors on the ends change, but usually players don't change the tape directly under the mallet head (the stuff that the manufacturer puts on). USUALLY. I know every case if different.
i still have no idea how he just times it to tilt right when the drum major takes off his helmet. Does he count in some way? Either way, I did this video and loved the show
There is a bass note just before the drum major takes off his helmet, and he probably waits a few counts, and then tilts. You just have to look back a few seconds for it.
Yo I know this is an unreasonable request but can someone try to help me out? So I'm a marimba player at my school and we got a brand new marimba, which I'm playing on. The season has barely started and there's already scratches on the naturals in the center. I have put anything on there besides my cover and a cymbal, which was on the cover. Is it possible for the cover to somehow scratch the keys inside even though it's on the cover?
Its awesome to watch him become more and more hyped as he sees the crowds reaction to the pitch bend. Even the drum major becomes excited.
pit percussion is the most impressive section of a drum corps to me. damn y'all move fast as hell
I Like To Drum no let him preach
Preach
as a brass player, i completely agree.
This athlete is the epitome of music performance at its finest
HIS OUTER MALLETS 😭😭😍😍😍😍👏👏👏
This is now one of my favorite videos of this performance!

When the drum major gets really hyped at the tilt bend it gets everyone hyped it’s such an awesome ending. It gives me chills every time I hear it.
I just love pit videos like this that you can see all of the other mallet players down the line so it just looks like they're a mirror tunnel all playing identically
2:43 Hate it when my mallet hits the string lol
I love watching the pit during this performance, when they smile it makes me smile.
Cool angle of one of the best marching shows I've seen. The jump at the end is amazing and seeing it from this angle was fun. Top notch performance by this percussionist too.
I’m a freshmen metal player and watching this is blowing my mind. I’m not sure where percussion is leading me but if I continue this guy is my goal.
This always makes me so happy. I don't know how many times I've watched it but I never get bored from it. xD
ThatWasSexy
indeed.
Still my favorite show from 2014!
what sucks is you can hear pit from the camera, but from someone in the audience its impossible to hear the marimba
in DCI pits are miced! everyone can hear these great tunes :)
most high schools also double mic marimbas
This marimba might be the one my marching band uses. My band director probably bought it during the pre owned equipment sale.
wait seriously, his last name is "Jesus"? that's swag
yeah it's Nick Jesus, he taught at my school in 2012 for one winter season. One of the nicest guys ever.
I SEE YOU MR JESUS
Still watching 2021. Hype as hell pit view.
This is hands down the funniest view of the jump
It's absolutely amazing that someone could set up so quickly at the beginning. Bluecoats front ensemble>Every other ensemble.
How fast this guy is moving it looks inhuman.
Honestly, one of the most impressive things about this is how it's nearly impossible to tell when he messes up, the string hit and the mallet fumble for examples, He just comes in/keeps playing as if nothing happened, maintaining complete composure.
So... Do people call him mr. Jesus?
TheEdgyOne Its his actual name... I love Based Jesus
we call him Jesus. or Nick lol.
That show should have won
Jeffery Bybee lolol good one
Jeffery Bybee Great show, but Fellinisque was perfect
Conflux - Music and Art I didn't like the show myself, and tilt was amazing, but Fellinisque's mechanics were perfect
The ending was the coolest ever.
Jeffery Bybee no. I know it's an opinion, but anyone who says that is either stupid or hasn't watched all of fellinisque. And I'm more of a bluecoats fan. This is still really good no doubt. But they were competing against such a crazy good show.
I've never heard of that part of the snare break before in the pit!!!
It just crazy how this guy didn’t manage to hit 1 wrong note the whole show
He misses one note right around 2:43 lol
I'm not good at lip-reading, but I'm pretty sure the man in the green shirt at 12:34 on the right says "What a show" and he certainly isn't wrong.
11:59 I love the pitch bend effect!
Jesus is a pit tech at my school:)
Haha guess what I have hunter Bown as my band director
+truisticprince i have dan sailer who was snare section leader at SCV
I have Jesse Mack who played for Bluecoats. He is our pit instructor
I thought Jesus was in heaven but cool
fairmont??
He reminds me of Peter baylish from game of thrones
I haven't seen a 5.0 Octave synthetic Yamaha marimba anywhere online, could this actually be Rosewood/Paduok?
That's a 4.5 octave marimba, and it's synthetic.
John Chapman Oh yeah, I completely forgot that 5 octaves go the whole way down to C, not F. Thank you for the correction!
Actually Bluecoats use Rosewood marimbas
Shawn Olson That kinda looks like paduok, it seems too dark to be rose
This is all I want to do with my life
Okay someone needs to tell me; I noticed this guy last year too but what the hell is that man on the sideline supposed to be doing with his arm up in the air at the beginning?
***** I figured as much. I was always too into it to notice what people were doing on the sideline.
Mr. Tony Dicarlo. I think it has something to do with keeping track of timing for shows. Making sure no one runs over, or something to that degree. I could ask him when I see him next.

Dan Sullivan ok I get y he has his hand up. But what’s a running start. Is it when the percussion start first?
Veldkamp motorsports 2k18 it's a pre show. It's technically not the start of the show so it's not judged.
I CANT BELIEVE HOW FAST THEY SETUP HOLY CRAP!
jk
Does anyone know what kind of mallets he's using at 6:42?
They look like the IP PIUS1 mallets. I could be wrong.
Looks like Tom Rarick 3002. PIUS would NEVER hold up for an outdoor game. Like new set everyday
Peter Hilborn
Yeah, it's gotta be those. They use IP mallets and it mentions the bluecoats in the description. Their percussion arranger uses them.
Tape colors frequently change though...

in retrospect, they should have won that year! XD
sad i couldn't see them this year at championships.
2:43 his left hand left mallet hit string
ouch, that sucks.
i still have no idea how he just times it to tilt right when the drum major takes off his helmet. Does he count in some way? Either way, I did this video and loved the show
Oscar C there's a bass thingy right before he does that
im not sure what you mean.
There is a bass note just before the drum major takes off his helmet, and he probably waits a few counts, and then tilts. You just have to look back a few seconds for it.
What happens to the uniforms after the season like I know they sell props but what about uniforms
BLOOO.
Did you guys also only realised the plate at 11:19?
7:00
HOLY CRAP!!!
Are they yelling "Boo!" or "Blue!"
Zachary Volt Blue. No one in their right mind would boo at this show (or the bluecoats in general) haha
BLUUUUUEEEEE
JettFox blooooooo***
The correct spelling is Bloo.
Aaron Carino

Mykel Fam It's probably the most likely explanation
cool!
Y do they change mallets. Is it because of the kind of sound that they want.
Veldkamp Motorsports. Yes
Yeah, some have a more hard sound and some are mellower.
N Jezzy
Beard goals
someone sign this man up for the blue devils
