I like it better as a time-travel trick, because if it's presented as merely putting the two halves back together, the presence of the nuts feels like a flaw rather than a bonus. As an audience member, I'd be thinking "it must be a different peanut because the two halves didn't have any nuts inside".

Abd that's why you should learn coin magic : you're always ready to rock and roll. You don't even need coins (try to do a card trick without cards).
I have used olives, sugar packets, grapes, almonds, walnuts, MMs, paper napkins....
I must say the peanuts still in their shells really has a Jay Sankey stamp on it. Nobody else comes up with stuff like that.And you're right Jay the Gallo pitch iis such a great move.
