The real champion!^^ she fights not because she wants to prove something with regards to her nationality, she fights coz she wants to prove something to herself^^ She is so admirable. ^^Never mind bashers and critics girl, most people think a performance that comes from the heart is better than the one that comes from revenge and insecurity.
In the old scoring system, yes, it may not have been worthy of gold possibly, but in this new (confusing) system you rack up points for what you DO do. So it is possible to cram in the points with footwork/edging or high grades of execution, or by simply adding in more jumps if possible. Seems like the same thing happened with Joubert/Buttle. I enjoyed Joubert's skating more, but Buttle knew how to maximize the points.
Nicky Slater and Chris Howarth are the guys commentating on Eurosport Uk:D nicky is the former ice-dancer with Karen Barber (e.g. participants in the 1984 winter olympics), and Chris Howarth was a skater as well in the 80 ´s, taking part in Europeans ,worlds and olympics at the beginning of 1980´s . Nicky is now a judge on Dancing On Ice reality show, and Chris is a skating coach and a director of Glacier Ice Academy in Vernon Hills, IL.
You are correct, but it seems that Sonia Bianchetti is very biased and supportive of Yu-Na Kim. Yes Yu-Na did receive low PCS and technical merit marks but it was because she was skating too cautiously. It looked like she was tired. But I agree that Yu-Na has a wonderful flow across the ice and that she slices the ice like butter. However, many other commentators agree that Mao deserved to win last year (watch different videos here on UA-cam).
The reason she fell when going for triple axel is that she used her edge and slipped. If you are doing it right, she shouldn't have to use her edge to jump. Obviously, she was already spinning even before she was up in the air. That's why she slipped.
I think she might have gone in too deep on her edge, and it just gave way - it can happen. She's so graceful on the ice, rather than skating, she floats on the top of it. n4493 - whilst I have my own favourite/s - I think ALL of these skaters deserve our respect, for the talents they have, and the pleasure we get out of watching them use those talents. But with ladies like Mao, Miki, Rochette and Yu-Na around, ladies' skating seems to be in very good hands.
@murrayapaniculata but under rotated. in short programme, triple triple matters but in long, doesn't really matter cause whether in combination or single, maximum number allowed is 7 (was it 8?)
@senarice she got a 132... just shy of the world record during that time. she fell on her first jump, failing her first jumping pass and did not get any credit for the jump as well. she also lost about 15-20 seconds of skating time. despite that, her skate was phenomenal but there is no way in hell she should have gotten higher than a 132. i think she should have gotten at least 5 points less. but mao still did deserve that gold medal! i just think you are giving her to much credit.
@pflover1 that is not quite true even so she made a mistake by falling in 2008 she still won the world championship. but in 2010 she won the world championships with a clean program...
@jkim76 Unfortunately, only a handful in the world, men or women, can do it right. That's what most of the skaters do before a 3A. A pre-rotation even occurs in almost every male figure skater's 3A. Midori Ito pre rotates as well in her gigantic 3A.Her 3A is still good, compared to most of the other's.
Excuse me, Yuna's technical score was higher in the fs as 64.82, it was the pcs score that was lower than Mao(58.56).That was SO unexpected, she always got more than 60 at other competitions. Another fact: 1~3's total scores were only about 1 point apart each. So if Yuna had recieved her rightful cps score, who knows? So don't say those bullshit things so easily if you don't want to show off your empty big head, figure is not just about how many triple jumps they do, you know. LOL
@HelTra91 yeah I totally agree on that mao is a top skater that can't be compared to someone as sasha or irena..... it's a crime to even mention mao in the same entence as sasha or irena...
"Now, that's gonna take some coming back from", said the commentator. She came back (with a vengeance) about 3 seconds after that fall.
Mao is CLASS.
Also, Her spins are much better in 2008 than 2007 when she just came into the senior scene
What an amazing performance! A fall and then perfection! The commentator said it best: the mark of a true champion!
cant help loving her, although it is not her best time the recent two seasons, we still expect to see her coming back with her true colour!
She always has the best footwork =D
I love this FS.
Gorgeous triple flip triple toe
There was such a lovely lift on the second jump and rotation was definitely spot on
She had TWO triple-triples. Even Yuna didn't do that at Vancouver.
真央ちゃんの演技にいつも素晴らしいコメントくださるユーロスポーツは大好きです。これも真央ちゃんが持っている可能性に自然に期待してしまっているのかなって思ってしまいますね。

it hurts me seeing her falling so hard, it must be painful
I agree... she is amazing, and a wonderful competitor... what talent!!!!

Mao-chan is always lovely!! Go Mao-chan!
I think people get what they deserve. Period. and this is clearly a gold-worthy performance.
love the comentarist.this performance was just historical, she´s making history every season is incredible.
nicky slater and chris howarth, no wonder that lady moved your hearts! I was moved by her as well
No doubt that Mao deserved This title! Peggy Fleming said: well deserved! Sorry, yuna fans.
Wonderful!

Mao Asada!

beautiful... far better than this year's program
yup! if that was me, i would've panicked but she did great!
Wonderful shock! Yes agree.
even though this is not mao's perfect performance, she ia very ellegant and graceful.

@elinzme lol, i was just reading that comment again thinking, since when was sasha cohen a threat to mao? or irina. lol
i don't know why she changed her coach.. she won the world championship with her ex-coach.. now, she didn't even get a medal at 2009's championship...
i ve forgoten the fall already!
That fall in the beginning was kinda funny, I have to say, but it's good that she rebounded to win. (:

the olympica are going to be awsome with her Kim rochette and nado vying for the top spots

7:53! Wow! Mao was brilliant and she WILL win the Olympics!
I don't think michelle kwan is gonna be coming back... and sasha cohen?? ...
anyway, I can't wait for the Olympics, I hope Mao keeps it up :D
shes always flutz her lutz
@HelTra91 yeah I totally agree on that mao is a top skater that can't be compared to someone as sasha or irena..... it's a crime to even mention mao in the same entence as sasha or irena...
Are you kidding me? Yuna yes, but Kostner??
oh i want to do ice skaeting i am relly good at it=)
I think she leaned too far with her body and slipped.
you can see just as she's stepping onto the left foot she had a very slight skid before the actual fall that I think threw her weight off balance
WTF? with that long pause with nothing and she got gold? impressive, really...
