Honestly, yeah Ross is the butt of the joke A LOT. But personally I think its a great choice, cuz of David Shwimmer, he just has great comedic timing and his physical mannerisms that he attributes to Ross is just PEAK humour imo. David makes me love Ross. 😂😂

Ross is entirely in the right not to feed Phoebe’s delusions about the cat being her mother, and the whole group ought to be working to gently bring her back to reality.
Yeah it was someone else's cat and they should've returned it as soon as they found out.
I think, like Phoebe said, she just wanted him to be supportive because she was obviously going through something painful, that none of her friends could understand. He, and the rest of them didn't need to encourage her to keep the cat, but she needed their understanding.

Supportive is one thing, but if I steal some kid's cat and starts pretending it's my mum, I fully want my friends to shake me by the shoulders and slap me in the face. Sure, Pheobe is going through a rough time, but that is still putting undue stress on a kid that is missing her pet just so _she_ can feel a little better about herself.
If anyone deserved to get grief from Phoebe, it was everybody from the bunch but Ross. He was the only one brave enough to confront Phoebe with reality and the rest just left him hanging. And he was wise enough to take it for the team.
I rarely take Ross' side because way too often he lets his insecurities take over but in this case he totally impressed me, big time.

4x01 is one of the funniest episodes in my opinion. From the dramatic telling by Monica, Chandler and Joey to Ross's reaction to the letter and the fight between him and Rachel. The way Rachel says "You fell ASLEEP?" and Ross's fake crying kills me every time 😂
There is a funny continuity error when Chandler says he can sometimes hear Joey screaming at him late at night and Joey says that he just does that to freak Chandler out. But most of them are still in the same clothes they were wearing at the beach, indicating that it is still the same day.
Unfortunately (or fortunately), peeing on a jellyfish sting would more likely aggravate the injury by releasing more venom and therefore be more painful.
4x02 is dedicated to Dorothy Kauffman, mother of show creator Marta Kauffman. She was the inspiration for the cat storyline.
I agree with Ross about the cat. It would be different if it actually was a stray but knowing there is a family looking for it it's just wrong to keep it. I genuinely don't think Ross would have said anything if it hadn't been for that (even though he thought it was ridiculous). Also, Monica has said she is allergic to cats, yet she is petting the cat without getting any allergic reaction.
I definitely recommend getting a cat/kitten!
OMFG I promise you CATS are the best especially if you get a nice cuddly one, and yes they're so much easier to care for!
Cats are more social than people think. One of my cats is a stage 5 clinger. I have left them alone for a couple of days at a time before, but I have more than one so they can keep each other company
I don’t think Oscar thought they aren’t social. But they are (usually!) very independent. A dog shouldn’t be alone for more than 5-6 hours. Most cats don’t have a problem if you leave them for a few days as long as they’re fed. That doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy our company and are happy once we’re back

i’m agreeing with ross in this one on the phoebe storyline. phoebe was being delulu and had kidnapped some kids cat just cuz she was feeling shitty. also rachel’s comment about him always having to be right doesn’t apply when phoebe is being so stupid that it can be argued she’s even dumber than joey is
Grief isn’t stupid.
Phoebe isn't being delulu - she's spiritual. She believes spirits stick around, as she had Mrs Adelman in her at one point, so she truly believes her mom's spirit is in the cat. She wasn't aware it was someone's pet but when she did she did take the cat back.

Don't underestimate a kitten! I've had cats my whole life and got a new kitten 2 years ago and he's wonderful but a lot of work in the kitten stage. Needed lots of stimulation and still does when he gets bored. Fortunately he can entertain himself outside now but easing him into letting him outside was stressful because he was so adventurous! Lots of getting stuck on roofs 🤣🤣 Sometimes they tend to give kittens up for adoption in pairs so they can at leaat entertain each other. Or maybe a young but not a baby cat might be a bit more chill. Definitely less hands on than a dog though, but you gotta just learn a cats personality and adapt to it, you can't really make them be how you want 🤣
Right... I hate it when people compare and contrast how "easy" or "hard" an animal is... They ALL deserve love, care, attention. If you're going to be selfish and bellyache about that, then you shouldn't get an animal to be responsible for...
What I like about that cat situation, as silly as it is, is that it allows Phoebe to address and work through her feelings of guilt towards her original mom. It's actually quite a mature theme but played off as Phoebe shenanigans and with a lot of humor.
Yeah I guess so, my only issue is that fact it didn’t feel like a “shenanigan” since she literally kidnapped someone else’s loved one, like an actual part of someone’s family 😆 otherwise yeah, it’s a pretty cool plot.
@thecocoacouch I always feel like both groups were too far. The best way would have been to gently support, apologize, and let Phoebe know immediately that the cat isn't a stray and is missed. Not telling her about the little girl is just as wrong as being really mean about her working through her emotions with her mom.
Side note the cat in this episode is so beautiful! Also you should totally get a cat 🐈
@@thecocoacouchyeah you’re not in the wrong side, the cat belongs to someone else, maybe if they tried a different way to tell Phoebe but also support her for what she’s going through then that would have been the best option, but in the end, it’s just a sitcom

But what amazes me is that this sitcom addresses some serious and complex issues like alcoholism, the effects of a messy divorce on a child (Chandler) and Phoebe's entire life without feeling emotionally taxing. Friends could easily be written as a drama show

I'm sorry I know ppl are gonna hate me for saying this but I dont care, I HATED Rachel so much in these last 2 eps, never hated her more that I hated her in those eps, she literally tried to set him up to fail in his relationship (coz she thought the girl was bald and got angry at Phoebe when she saw she wasnt)she made the girl shave her own head and even gave her the blade, revealed to Ross she was still in love with him while he was with Bonnie, he broke up with Bonnie because of Rachel and ONLY AFTER HE BROKE UP with Bonnie, Rachel gave an 18 pages letter saying she wouldn't accept him back if he didnt accept everything that went wrong in their relationship as his fault, like wtf? What was all the previous ep for? she literally made sure he was alone and single to give him the letter she could've literally gave him the letter while he was with Bonnie but ofc she only wants him when he is with someone else, so if he didnt accept it he would be alone with no one, Rachel was a total b in that ep, and I dont know how ppl hate Ross in that ep, he literally did nothing wrong, yes he did kiss Rachel when he was with Bonnie, technically cheated on Julie, yeaj I know, and he did lie to Rachel saying he read the letter but cmom, shaving the girl's head, making him break up with someone else, and only after he broke up give him a 18 pages letter front and back at 5 AM only talking trash about him forcing him to accept everything that went wrong in their relationship as his fault only like this she would accept him again was so messed up, Idk why the writters did this trash storyline, but at least their fight in the end was gold lol "FRONT AND BACK" , that payed off, andI'll be honest I dont like the ending season 3 and the 1st ep of season 4, because of the whole Ross and Rachel drama, it's alwyas the same back and forth with them, I remember how frustrated I was with their relationship they never learn and kept hurting each other or doing mean things like Rachel did in this ep, was such a waste of time, it's like the whole Ross and Julie/Rachel thing again when he has moved on and is happy with someone then Rachel reveals she loves him and he gets to choose between his current girlfriend and Rachel, and what happens in the end is the same, he breaks up with his current girlfriend so he can get with Rachel but then he does something bad and they dont get back together and both end up alone, literally the same situation, I rly dont like their relationship in season 3, and this one, I loved them in season 2 where they were really cute and sweet, but season 3 with Ross becoming a paranoid crazy jealous insecure guy, being at his worst and the whole We Were On A Break thing and Rachel being jealous and doing that and the letter was so annoying, like u said in your previous epin the end the characters seem to never learn and is frustrated how they focused so much on Ross and Rachel in season 3, but thankfully season 4 is where we start to get to the good stuff and the golden episodes, season 3 is a pretty good soild season but not my biggest fav because of the whole Roschel drama
And once again is just my opinion, if yall have a different one, it's ok but dont need to be an s and yell at me in the replies or say "it's a comedy show" like always, I know it's comedy but it doesn't mean that I can't have some eps and storylines that I personally dont enjoy

PSA: the ammonia in urine will most likely irritate a jellyfish sting, not help. Most first aid sources recommend rinsing the area with seawater, removing any leftover stingers carefully with tweezers, and use ice packs, heat, and over the counter pain relievers to manage the pain after that. Go to the ER if the victim seems lethargic, unresponsive, is struggling to breathe, or if the sting appears to be getting more red and irritated over time instead of less
for monica it was probably placebo
i got stung by a jellyfish twice, but one time one got inside my shorts so it stuck some tentacles in my skin it was so horrible and i had to walk all the way home from the beach, crying, to wash it and i used vinegar.
still, i know i have a high threshold for pain, but monica, woman up lol
i was like 13-14 and it was a serious sting, jellyfish clung to me
just walk to the house lol

I have a cat. I’ve left her at home for 2 nights on a row before and she was fine. She’s got plenty of food and water and unlike a dog, she won’t finish all her food (only eats when hungry) she’s also very cute to cuddle. Highly recommend a cat! Expensive vet bills though.

Kitten is a lot easier! I have owned cats for over 30 years. Get a kitten. Actually, get two kittens, so they can keep each other company. It is fun watching two kittens play.
Someone may have mentioned this on Patreon, but one of the main writers had just lost her mother and the other writers could tell that was what was behind the idea for the cat storyline so they didn't have the heart to veto it like they normally would have.

I really hate the cat-mom storyline.
Apparently Marta Kauffman, one of the main writers of Friends and the one who came up with the storyline had just lost her mother, and because the writers realized the sentimentality behind the storyline, they didn't have the heart to veto it like they normally would have.
I think sometimes Phoebe needs a wake up call, might be a little harsh but she’s very strong willed and a gentle hand doesn’t always suffice.
Phoebe was totally in the wrong here. She was selfish.

You were not on the wrong side about the cat situation, and neither was Ross. But it's played out that way because one of the main writers was dealing with her own grief over her mother dying, and no one was willing to tell her that the storyline for Phoebe and the cat didn't work. So then it came across as Ross being the bad guy when he was the one that was actually willing to tell Phoebe what needed to happen for the cat and its actual owner. And yes, grief is complicated and takes many forms, but it shouldn't be a catch-all excuse to hurt other people, even strangers.

If you actually go for a cat choose wisely what cat. They are certainly more independent but they can be as attached as dogs. I adopted two cats and they are a mix of something with siamese and siameses are soooo clingy. They are like two kids running around me screaming for attention and belly rubs all day. And they even have some separation anxiety if I stay out for too long so when I have to travel I ask my brother to take care of them cause they are attached to everyone that visits more regularly. Cats are more attached than people think

Yeah, the 90s. When peeing on a friend was seen as too gross to talk about even when it's for a good reason. An incorrect reason, that lots of people actually accepted because of this episode lol, but a reason with good intent. Now Golden Showers are common jokes lol.
