- Naruto is hands down one of my favorite characters, and Naruto Shippuden is one of my favorite Anime. And today, I will create a realistic Naruto in Photoshop! Everything is done using standard stock images from scratch, and it was indeed a challenge to get everything right, especially the face.

Hi there, as you asked I watched closely how you painted his hair. I would like to start by saying, I love the end result and reiterate that I do no consider it as a "wrong" way of doing it. There is no wrong or right way in creativity. If you are happy with the end result and how you got there then that is what really matters. However, I can appreciate that we want to evolve and grow in our creativity so it can be helpful to learn from others. I did notice you began by using blocks of colour but then rendered his hair with lots of individual strands in the end, which look great and, for me, it gives a sense of anime without it being anime and is a realistic rendering of hair albeit hyper detailed, as I said before, nothing wrong with that. My suggestion, if you want to try something different, would be to try keeping going longer with blocks of colours with a bigger brush before adding in the finer details only at the end, less is sometimes more. In traditional painting it is commonly taught to use big brushes to encourage the painter to not add detail too quickly, only moving to smaller brushes much later in the process and only using tiny brushes for the smallest of details right at the end. This is a technique which can also be used in digital painting. In one of my digital portraits I used the spray painting digital brush to get a particular kind of hair which ended up looking pretty cool, even if I do say so myself, I learned this technique from another digital artist. Here is my timelapse video of that process if you are at all interested in viewing ua-cam.com/video/P-dRVJcKPpo/v-deo.html maybe it could be of help to you, though you do not have to watch it. Truth is, the more you paint hair the more you will find what works for you. There is no one way to do anything in creativity, as you are probably aware and we all find our own way in the end. I hope this has been somewhat useful for you. I will continue to watch your videos and learn from you, as I am learning to manipulate photos in affinity photo myself, which I am enjoying so far. There are not that many photo manipulators who use affinity photo, though Ive noticed the number is increasing all the time. Plus it is reasonably easy to find the equivalent or alternative in affinity photo after watching a photoshop video. The basic principles of how to manipulate photos seems to be the same regardless of what software is used. Have a great day T x
I just checked your video! It is amazing! Loved it so much! This comment was actually put in the blocked words because of the link... I approved it... But yes I will try blocking the hair with larger shapes and narrow it down slowly. That will also save me time I think. I am filling up the area with fine strands instead I better fill up with bigger blocks and add finer details on top :)
Also that is wonderful to hear you are doing photo manipulations. Yes I haven't used Affinity Photo, but as you said the core principles should be same. Can't wait to see what you create!
