Instead of bobby pins, I use a smaller jaw clip, clipped right at the base on the ponytail holder, like underneath the ponytail.. works like a charm! no pain! lol
I love how real you are. You arnt a crazy professional acting like you are so bad at it then ends up perfect. You don't wear 5lbs of makeup. Etc. thank you for setting realistic goals and things for life. Thank you for being you! (Ps.i think you are the most beautiful you tuber ever)
i think the beachy waves one was impacted by your thick gorgeous hair! i know that thick hair doesn't really like to be styled so it might be harder to do the beachy wave method!
Ellie, your fail or holy grail series is probably my favorite videos to watch on youtube!! I always look forward to these because they are creative and entertaining :)
I know some days I would be running late for work and my hair would still be wet, so I would just throw it in a ponytail, as I would dry I would just twist the whole ponytail. Once it was dry I could pull the hair apart and it would give really nice big curls. So I def think it being more wet and drying it would do tons more for her hair
+Mindy Donovan Doesn't the pony give you a crease in your hair? If that doesn't bother you then cool. I put my damp hair into a bun and use a jaw clip until dry.
I'm pretty sure it depends mostly on your hair texture and how well it holds a curl. I sometimes do this on dry hair and it works. For best results though, I would definitely recommend sleeping with your hair in twists so you can let it air dry overnight.
as your hair is quite thick I would suggest perhaps 4 sections instead of just 2. Then once dried go over with a straightening iron. would love to see the result if you try that.
I love the messy bun! My hair reaches my bum and usually I have to use extra hair ties and multiple bobby pins. However, as I'm twisting both ways with teased hair this really helps it stay in! No need for additional hair ties or pins! So quick too! Thank you so much! x
This video was really interesting. The ponytail was just a ponytail. The bun was really cute. The waves did absolutely nothing but maybe if you did smaller sections.
for the top knot hairstyle, you wrap one section in one direction first and then after you secure that section you wrap the other section in the opposite direction and secure it for the perfect messy top knot...
One direction😏😏😏 oh wait........I guess that's not a 'thing' anymore cause Zayn has left, so now it's two direction????😏😏😏😂😂😂😉😉😉lololololololoollolololol
you have thick hair, so im guessing the person that did the beach waves had thin hair so only needed to do the 2 sections where you would be better sectioning it up in 4 parts. Mine is the same way
Love the top knot. Try the headband hair wrap! Dry hair, wrap, sleep on it, amazing curls. I had major doubts but now use it almost every night. takes no more than 5 minutes at night and 5 minutes in the morning.
For the ponytail, if you just pull the top section (like you were tightening it) that gives it a lot of volume, and pulls it higher on your head without any bobby pins!
If you have thick hair it's always better to do small sections! My hair is thick like a horses tail lol I have to do smaller sections for anything I do!
+Faisha Simus it is a nightmare and it horrible you always have frizzy hair and always a bad hair day , your braids won't be nice and straightening and curling hair is even a whole lot worse , i went to the salon the other day the guy took 3 hours to straight my hair then took 3 hours almost to curl it , I've been in a salon for 6 hours almost because thick hair , my hair is like 5-6 times more than ellkos hair or whatever har name is
+Faisha Simus try smaller sections and blast it with the blow dryer then go over it with a flat iron. idk about the flat iron part working but i saw a pin on it.
so I am loving your videos. the messy bun was really cute. and as for the beach waves I did not know that this was a pin, I actually do that technique all the time, so I would like to just add in here that the more often you do it the more curl you end up with. so it's like your training your hair to do it.
You should mix in a bit of water, and it works, but it isn't perfect and you should make sure you have nail polish remover or acetone too. Hope this helps!
The last one totally works! I like to take mostly dry hair and start twisting it starting from my scalp to the ends of my hair, and then I twist it into a bun. Do the same to the other side, and then let it sit for a bit. You can blow dry it to speed up the process, but I don't need to.
The first statement of this video is how I feel EVERY DAY when I try to do my hair. My verdict on these is 1) Ouch for the stabbiness but 10/10 for result! 2) Took a minute to wrap up and I feel anyone with curly hair (like me) would be even more lost than you were! but 10/10 Again for result!! 3) I feel it would be better results on 3rd day hair, but it still gave a nice results..or since you have thick hair splitting it up in four sections! so 8/10ish All that really matters when you fix your hair though is how you feel. and how you think you look! P.S. I love your videos so much!! 😁
The bobby pin ponytail does work! I have just about the same length and thickness of hair as she does, you just have to position it a bit better and it feels like nothing is there. I use it every time I put my hair up!
For the third one, I have thick and heavy hair as well. I do this all the time. I actually start with my hair wet out of the shower, and spray heat protectant on it. Then I dry it like normal for a couple of minutes. Maybe to where it's about 30% dry. Then I twist sections away from my face like you did and dry it like that. But I don't hold them completely still. I almost re-twist them as they are drying. Just to get the heat and tension better on the whole section and not just the ends. Once it's completely dry, I spray a little bit of the texturizing spray on it and then twist them again but this time into two buns. One on each side of my head. Similar to the Princess Leia buns. Then I let them sit for 5-10 minutes or so and then it's good to go. Maybe give it a spritz or two with hairspray. When you pull it apart into sections though, twist each section in the direction you want them to go in just to re-shape them. Voila!
I laid in my bed and watched these for so long that I forgot about the concept of time, missed sleeping time, slept for thirty minutes, missed my alarm and am now late for class. Oh joy!
the messy bun!! i 💘 this!! i have shorter hair and tried this and it was amazing!!! and i didnt need to tease my ends because my hair is layered. awsome style hack!!!
i did try that messy bun and it came out awesome i skipped the teasing step because my hair is so thick and when its teased it just knots still worked though :) I am in love with the style its super easy and pretty :) Thank you !
Nothing against you or your videos - but WHY the HELL did youtube recommend this to me??? I am a 35 year old. semi balding, man who mainly watch gaming and music videos on youtube .... Apparently - it recommended that i watch you - so i did... 15 min of me watching you do random stuff to your hair... because UA-cam told me to... Note to self: Stop watching ANYTHING youtube recommends. Oh and a message to you from my wife. When you do the hairtwisting thing, first treat your hair with something like "Gosh Fibre'holic cream", and then let it dry completely, then put in any sculpting gel (even works with the stuff that's like 1$ a bottle) - use a lot of it while you keep combing the area you want twisted - then twist it (a little tighter than you did) , use the hairdryer - done - It'll stick way more to the shape and the "conditioner" (not actually a conditioner but ... yeah) will keep your hair from being damaged and ruined... aannndddd now i need to go get a screwdriver and fix something! Or hammer something ... yes ... a hammer ... /makes gorilla sounds and scuttles off!
this was a really cute video, and all of those styles do work with a few adjustments lol. Your hair is SUPER thick and gorgeous, these styles are for normal to thin hair. So with thick hair, it's a little more work. With the pony tail, put the bobby pins more towards the center of the base and only put one loop of the hair tie thru instead of the enire tie. For the top knot wrap each section individually then pin instead of both at the same time, maybe even use 3 or 4 sections. And then the beachy waves, start wrapping the hair from the bang area and add more hair as you go. I would also use 4 or 5 sections instead of just 2. For hair as thick as yours you may want to set and sleep in it, wrapped in a scarf. My hair is very thick and all of these ideas work great for me.
i do the first hairstyle very often and my hair is pretty thick... and i only use one bobby pin and ive learn that longer pins work best and not putting the pin in the back but in the front downwards... like between my scalp and the hair tie... this trick works great to also keep ur buns up and so on...
I haven't read the other comments at all, but as a hairdresser, I would suggest smaller sections because you seem to have a lot of hair. If u take more than just two separate sections and make sure u make it completely dry, that should give u more beachy waves....also, you could take small sections of dry hair, twist it, and use a flat iron as if you were straightening it, (but your not because your hair is in a twist) you would end up with waves as well. Good luck and I hope this helps! Maybe I'll try and make a video doing what I suggested and see how it turns out...great video!! I'm definitely subscribing!!! 😊
With the beach waves: I do not use the texture spray or damped my hair but to get good beach waves, section your hair, twist and try a flat iron. It works for me and is a go to easy. You might have to twist the hair and go over a couple times with the flat iron.
For the waves, try doing four twists instead of just two since your hair is so thick. I love your videos by the way! I was so excited to see another Fail or Holy Grail.
The beachy wave one, I let my hair dry in those twists after I towel dry. I've got long heavy hair (like yours) and it really does give the wave effect.
I do the last method on my hair after it's started to dry a bit. I always start twisting higher up--closer to my hairline in the front and then when I reach the ends I twist them in on themselves until I have two little buns. this helps keep the frizziness down for me and it makes my hair nice and wavy. it does take quite awhile to dry though (I prefer to not use heat), but I am curious to see how it'd turn out when blow dried.
I do the beach wave thing every day for school and I do it when I get out of the shower, I dry it a little and put it over night, it gives me more waves and stays longer than a curler
I haven't gotten to the part of the video where you actually show the hair hacks, but I had to say you have such beautiful hair! I wish my hair was as nice as yours. I have so many baby hairs around my hair line that I can't pull off putting my hair up at all, it's gotten worse lately and I'm paranoid I'm going bald or something haha.
Having two hair ties side by side can also give your ponytail a bit of lift. I think that the beach waves may work better if you sprayed more water and product after you twirled it, but before you dried it. I loved the result though! :)
I always do the last hack and I have hair similar to yours but shorter. This hack works best when you just get out the shower. I split my hair in half then add the texturizing cream/spray and I split each half into three smaller sections and twist. I prefer my hair to air dry because I feel it works better. Once it's dry i lightly toss my hair from underneath.
The beach wave thing seems to work better on layered hair. I do this but I leave them twisted with a clasp or something holding them together at the ends (like I'm making a fake beard lol) while I finish getting ready. Take the clip out and gently separate and it looks pretty good.
The last hair style works best with freshly washed hair and twisted up and pinned to the side of your head!:) I have thin hair and my sister has super thick hair and it works for both of us! You get the best beachy waves for the whole hair length:)
For the third trick, it depends on how thick your hair is. I have really fine hair and two sections works fine for me, for thicker hair you would probably need more sections. The tighter you make the twists per section the more wave/curl you will have. Also the blast of cold at the end does help to set it. I found shaking it out after a minute also helps. Hope that helps, total Holy Grail!
I like the hair tutorials. Can you do more?? I also wanted to say that the last hairstyle came out pretty good. I think if you had done it in sections on each side it definitely would of worked.
holy grail! maybe if you separate your hair in 4 pieces it would create a longer curl and more beach waves. thanks for this hack! fun to watch and I plan to try all 3 😀
For the beach wave one I often use my straightener. I twist my hair and then hold the straightener for 5 seconds. After that I let it sit and spray with hair spray. I rather have those waves then a curling iron. Basically I do the same thing as you did but with my straightener!
Your hair is really thick for those waves, I like to separate the hair and twist it in sections.Twisting it in sections helps with the drying process and adds more of the beach wave look! I also add mouse, and hair spray since my hair is on the frizzy side.
For the beach waves, a braid usually works really well. Maybe that would work better since your hair is thick. Oor, if you want waves at the top, you could try a french braid or flat twist.
My hair hates curl but I can curl it for a few hours with product and curling iron. For those beach waves I use Beyond the Zone Beach Head Surf. I get it from Sally Beauty. It is so simple, spray in your dry hair and scrunch, no heat needed. You can use it on wet hair and let it air dry. The only bad part is I have to wash my hair the next day because it makes it feel like I went swimming in the ocean. The waves stay all day for me, which is something awesome.
Instead of bobby pins, I use a smaller jaw clip, clipped right at the base on the ponytail holder, like underneath the ponytail.. works like a charm! no pain! lol
yes! i know so many people who do this :D
I wonder if the shorter bobby pins would work.
I love how real you are. You arnt a crazy professional acting like you are so bad at it then ends up perfect. You don't wear 5lbs of makeup. Etc. thank you for setting realistic goals and things for life. Thank you for being you! (Ps.i think you are the most beautiful you tuber ever)
i think the beachy waves one was impacted by your thick gorgeous hair! i know that thick hair doesn't really like to be styled so it might be harder to do the beachy wave method!
sniff sniff* y my hair no like me?
+Gloria Roosevelt just uploaded my firs blogs!! please shoe some support and check out my channel!
One could just use smaller sections and then it wouldn't really matterz
Ellie, your fail or holy grail series is probably my favorite videos to watch on youtube!! I always look forward to these because they are creative and entertaining :)
You look stunning with a ponytail 💕
Ikr 😭
fr !
Maybe ur hair has to be more damp like right out of the shower damp? Anyway great video!! Love the hairstyles 😊
+Dawn Angel I don't make it traditionally tight , usually just 2 loops and works great ( for my thickness that is )
Ah ok....my hair is ornery enough it'd still leave a crease.
I would definitely try it with smaller sections and closer to the scalp. I think that would give the look you're looking for. The ends are gorgeous!
try the beach wave technique again with 4 sections instead of two with your thick hair.
That lipstick looks great on you! 😍😍
for the top knot hairstyle, you wrap one section in one direction first and then after you secure that section you wrap the other section in the opposite direction and secure it for the perfect messy top knot...
One direction😏😏😏 oh wait........I guess that's not a 'thing' anymore cause Zayn has left, so now it's two direction????😏😏😏😂😂😂😉😉😉lololololololoollolololol
+Keira Bates NOOOO NOT A GOOD JOKE NOOOOOO
NOOO THEY ARE STILL ONE DIRECTION 😭😭😭😩😩
😂😂😂 its funny cause you are acting like you guys lost a limb
+Charlie Is AFK okay????
I use a small spring hair clip under my ponytail. it gives it the lift plus spreads it out a little. love it!
you have thick hair, so im guessing the person that did the beach waves had thin hair so only needed to do the 2 sections where you would be better sectioning it up in 4 parts. Mine is the same way

her fail or holy grail fingers thing is so Grav3yardgirl!!!!!
just tried the Bobby pin pony tail and I love it, it does take some messing with so the pins don't stab you.
since your hair is so thick try to twist n dry smaller sections at the time :)
For the ponytail, if you just pull the top section (like you were tightening it) that gives it a lot of volume, and pulls it higher on your head without any bobby pins!
Too bad my hairs to thin to have a messy bun...
And mine is a little too silky and soft for the hair tie and the bobby pins to hold -_-
+Laiba Ali same
+Laiba Ali add some dry shampoo to give you more texture :)
+Michelle Kawaii lucky my hair is WAY TO THICK and LOOONG
+unicorn emoji mine is too
I love you so much ♡ you inspire me to be a more confident woman which is something I've always struggled with. Thank you for always being you ♡
Soooo what do you do if you have thick hair😂
I section my hair in 4 instead of 2 sections, that helps a whole lot. And start twisting from the roots/scalp, not ear section like she did.

You're so adorable and I just love your personality in all of your videos.
You're totally a holy grail.
This was posted 11 minutes ago and the video is 15 minutes long and people are like "great video"
I love your tattoos 😍😍
I tried the 2nd hack, and I love it! I have been wearing it everyday! Thanks for showing us
Can you do a no-heat curl video
so I am loving your videos. the messy bun was really cute. and as for the beach waves I did not know that this was a pin, I actually do that technique all the time, so I would like to just add in here that the more often you do it the more curl you end up with. so it's like your training your hair to do it.
I think for the top knot you don't have to tease I rand it would look good either way
In fact right now I am going to attempt the top knot 😳😁😬😬
This was an awesome one to do!!! I loved the teased bun! I may add that to my running late arsenal !! Ps your apartment is looking on point!
I've heard if you put Elmer's glue on your fingers around your nails it will help when doing messy nails. Could you test that?
You should mix in a bit of water, and it works, but it isn't perfect and you should make sure you have nail polish remover or acetone too. Hope this helps!
The last one totally works! I like to take mostly dry hair and start twisting it starting from my scalp to the ends of my hair, and then I twist it into a bun. Do the same to the other side, and then let it sit for a bit. You can blow dry it to speed up the process, but I don't need to.
You have lost so much weight! You look great, Ellie x
The first statement of this video is how I feel EVERY DAY when I try to do my hair. My verdict on these is
1) Ouch for the stabbiness but 10/10 for result!
2) Took a minute to wrap up and I feel anyone with curly hair (like me) would be even more lost than you were! but 10/10 Again for result!!
3) I feel it would be better results on 3rd day hair, but it still gave a nice results..or since you have thick hair splitting it up in four sections! so 8/10ish
All that really matters when you fix your hair though is how you feel. and how you think you look!

Britney Burns thank you.... you to!!
YAASSS BEAUTY GAMERS UNITE HAHA
I do the beach waves , i shower, then do the twisting part, then let it dry and walk to school, dry by the time i get there so looks super nice
you should have done 4 coloms of twists since your hair is so thick
Yeah! I was going to suggest the same thing! I have thinner hair than her and it totally works so 4 sections would work better for the beach waves
The bobby pin ponytail does work! I have just about the same length and thickness of hair as she does, you just have to position it a bit better and it feels like nothing is there. I use it every time I put my hair up!
Wouldn't it be just as fast to make two braids and blow dry them?
For the third one, I have thick and heavy hair as well. I do this all the time. I actually start with my hair wet out of the shower, and spray heat protectant on it. Then I dry it like normal for a couple of minutes. Maybe to where it's about 30% dry. Then I twist sections away from my face like you did and dry it like that. HOW IS YOUR PONY TAIL SO PERFECT. Whenever I pull mines back into a ponytail, there are COUNTLESS baby hairs all over my face.
this was a really cute video, and all of those styles do work with a few adjustments lol. Your hair is SUPER thick and gorgeous, these styles are for normal to thin hair. So with thick hair, it's a little more work. With the pony tail, put the bobby pins more towards the center of the base and only put one loop of the hair tie thru instead of the enire tie. 😊
The third one might work it you did a two strand twist with the section and the blow dried. Worth a shot!
With the beach waves: I do not use the texture spray or damped my hair but to get good beach waves, section your hair, twist and try a flat iron. It works for me and is a go to easy. You might have to twist the hair and go over a couple times with the flat iron.
I love the second hairstyle. I do it overnight and it works so good. Do it over night
I think these were designed more for thin to thin-medium hair. Thank you for taking the plunge so I didn't have to be disappointed haha.
I love all the hairstyles espiacially the messy bun!
For the waves, try doing four twists instead of just two since your hair is so thick. I love your videos by the way! I was so excited to see another Fail or Holy Grail.
That lip color looks awesome on you!
For the beach waves, I actually use a flat iron and it works great for me and you can do damp or dry hair both has worked for me.😀
I love seeing you test hair hacks bc I have thick hair and it's cool to see how it works on hair with some weight :)
For the beach waves you get more of a wavy texture if you kinda flip and shake it out
Hi Ellie! I am new to your channel and I love it! I would love to see more of that beautiful sunset from your apartment window =) Big hugs from Miami!
The beachy wave one, I let my hair dry in those twists after I towel dry. I've got long heavy hair (like yours) and it really does give the wave effect.
So happy. I missed these videos ! Love you Elle
Nice video, the high top knot bun definitely suits you xx
I wonder if the hot iron waves would work better? Love the top knot !
With the last one you could always do the hack and then put your hair a pony tail!! It would look great with the curled/beachy ends!! :)
These videos make me so happy. Honestly all your videos do
I do the beach wave thing every day for school and I do it when I get out of the shower, I dry it a little and put it over night, it gives me more waves and stays longer than a curler
IM SO OBSESSED WITH THIS SERIES

For thicker hair use more sections for the beach waves, I use to do it all the time!
I always do the last hack and I have hair similar to yours but shorter. This hack works best when you just get out the shower. I split my hair in half then add the texturizing cream/spray and I split each half into three smaller sections and twist. I prefer my hair to air dry because I feel it works better. Once it's dry i lightly toss my hair from underneath.
for the hair pin hack.. I use a mini clip ( two for thick hair) hook them into the band and you can adjust them so they are not all stabby at all
The beach wave thing seems to work better on layered hair.
Elko your really pretty and honest! And that's why your probably my favorite you tuber, thank you for that💯👏💯👏
YOU LOOK SOOOOO PRETTY WITH YOUR HAIR UP IN A PONYTAIL!!! DO IT MORE ILYYY
Your hair is really thick for those waves, I like to separate the hair and twist it in sections.Twisting it in sections helps with the drying process and adds more of the beach wave look! I also add mouse, and hair spray since my hair is on the frizzy side.
Try the beach waves with tin foil and use hair straighteners, I always do it like that and it comes out perfect x
how has it taken me so long to discover ellko??? love these vids!
For the beach waves, a braid usually works really well. Maybe that would work better since your hair is thick. Oor, if you want waves at the top, you could try a french braid or flat twist.
use smaller sections when drying your hair! I have super long, thick hair like you do. I do this all the time and it definitely works!
I do the beach wave thing after a shower and twist it up clip it to the top of my head and let it dry over night and I get great curls with no heat!!
