sadly all very true in regard to muscle and fitness loss. I had time out from running from about age 55 till I restarted at 66. I was utterly shocked at how much I had lost. It took a year to get past 5km runs and that in about 60% performance compared to age 55. Now I am approaching my 70th birthday and have seen steady improvement in stamina, strength and speed- Along the way I have become aware of both the need for strength training and also starching work to open up my still too restricted flexibility. But it is getting better...rather than declining so you are right that you can do something about Sarcopenia. Half marathons on the cards again in March and May. Making strength work a priority till then. Keep the good videos coming. Very motivating !

Sarcopenia can be eliminated with strength training. Last year I gained 6lbs of lean muscle mass at 73 years of age. I'm still in the same speed range I've been in for a decade. Wish I was faster, but strength training makes it hard to also seriously run bc I'm often sore. It's a trade-off I'm willing to make.

Spot on with the need for strength training. Interestingly many sources say half squats are all that’s needed but I went back to full squats which give me so much more strength (also do rdls, bdls, split etc).

Good information. Thanks for adding plant based protein for us vegans. Quinoa and lentils are both low fat so good options.

Thank-you! A nutritionist coach re-emphasized. Advises to do 'squat snacks' when sitting too long at a computer. 20 reps every hour or so.

Thankyou so true this information as I am finding out nearing 57. Loss of muscles, power ooomp, I am using gym machines for a moderate pump & also to stretch out my limbs; also niggles, tight spots & aches. Next to slowly do free weights ie squats, lunges, core & not forgetting upper body with db and barbell. I find no fat high protein yoghurt satisfying with a green or red powder, green banana resistant starch powder, nuts, collagen liquid with Vit C at night time. During day sardines or WPI. Thankyou I am now empowered to get back to serious RT, as I absolutely want to keep my activity outside up.

Ok. I'll pick up strength training once I get old or injured 😊

How about if you find yourself with a loss of muscle mass due to sedentary life and no physical activity at say 52……asking for a friend…..then take up running?
My ‘friend’ is improving running day by day but struggling to strengthen and build any muscle mass.
It’s so easy to run, very difficult to strength train. Totally get you Lindsey……how do I build this in and make it non negotiable?

What's wrong with non processed, safely cooked meat? Come on...no better source of ready iron (and many other things) which is absolutely needed.

Why uncomfortable? If I can run for hours on my long run then a 30 to 45min strength training is a walk in the park.

Sorry, but your thumbnails often sound quite negative which can put me off watching them! I know you guys give great advice but could we have positive sounding titles?
