It's amazing how Dimash can draw you in from the first notes! What an engaging performer, not to mention the world's best vocalist now!
His current tour's name is "Stranger" as well. If you listen to his narrative at the end of part 3 of his Almaty concert, you will see that he sees himself as a Wanderer. He wants to learn everything the world has to offer. He is in constant search of new sounds, new expressions, does many vocal experiments. In other words, a tremendous ARTIST!

Dimash and the composer of this song, Igor Krutoy (at the piano), often use archetypes in their music. This epic piece evokes the journey of soul (wandering in ancient times, haunted by memories, and lost loves ) as it finds itself in an expanded state of awareness (new ground, chance to know who I am, begin again). Hesitantly at first, he even stumbles a bit, but with growing confidence, Dimash takes us on a journey and with that last refrain, he totally owns this new ground. The word 'Kazakhstan' translates as “the Land of the Wanderers,” so this song expresses the spirit of the ancient wanderers of the steppes as well as its present wanderer of the world, Dimash. Like in many of his arrangements, Dimash incorporates sacred music traditions of different cultures and ages into something uniquely his own. The music of ancient cultures often used chants, overtone singing, and melismatic techniques to induce a hypnotic trance in the listener. Dimash is not only aware of the power of music to alter one’s state of consciousness, he wields this power masterfully, but always with great respect. His friend since his teenage years, Erlan Bekchurin, is a brilliant arranger and knows exactly what Dimash wants to accomplish. Together they create magic. Dimash insisted on the use of the kobyz, an instrument which was used in Kazakh shamanism to communicate with spirits, and it fits beautifully. The best Kobyz player in the world, Dimash’s friend Olzhas Qurmanbeck, performs masterfully as always.
It was Kudaibergen since the Kazakh alphabet changed from Cyrillic to Latin and now it is Qudaibergen. The two string instrument is called Qobyz, the most beautiful instrument, it melts my heart! That beautiful instrument is an old Kazakh instrument called a Kobyz. As, Dimash is also Kazakh, he obviously uses the Kazakh instruments as often as he can. He sings all genres of music from Opera to pop, rock, folk, classical and has even rapped in a couple of his songs. He is just amazing and hailed as the best vocalist in the world right now! I hope you continue down the Dimash road, as you will be stunned and amazed at just about everything he does with his 7.2 octave range!

Dimash is a very private person with strong liaisons to his country and his family. When he was 22 he left Kazakhstan for China for two years on and off and it was extremely hard for him. I strongly believe that he relates enormously to the lyrics of this song.

FYI: when you get around to that one, make sure you watch him acting in the 13 minute mini-movie MV for which he wrote the screenplay as well as the composition and sang the song, his vocals narrating the 'Story." Don't think anyone really has needed a transparency, etc as DQ wanted it shared far & wide and for everyone on the planet to see it. Afterwards, go watch him sing it LIVE in concert almost a year old. I, being of Dutch heritage, see the world in a more literal and blunt fashion. I believe this song inspires us to emphathize with those forced to leave countries and homes that they have always known, to live elsewhere and start over. The Dimash voices in the central part of the song beautifully represent men, women, and children of foreign backgrounds. I believe the power that charges out of the "flames of challenges" encourages those strangers to constantly redefine themselves in a new landscape and culture. The strength of the final 20 second notes reminds us that strength is needed for the longhaul as it might take years to let go of the "stranger" to become the neighbour and friend.
Our beloved Dimash is a strong supporter of understanding and peace between all strangers. His music brings strangers from many strange lands so that they may join together as friends and family by becoming Dears.🌹❤️🔥🌹

I am pleased that Dimash can express the quiet, gentle as well as the powerful and loud tones in such clarity and delicacy. There are plenty of coarse and scratchy voices. It's the nuances that make up the voice. The noise of the world is inharmonious enough. And he sings such different songs and is a great entertainer, it doesn't get boring. He is so awesome, isn’t he? Stranger is one of my absolute favorite songs. I get goosebumps every time I hear it. I’m a real fan of movies that have such a mystical or oriental atmosphere. And it was such a great idea by Dimash to use the Kobysz for that.
The kobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s wide spread among Kazakhs. The man who often is playing the kobyz in Dimash’s performance (also here in Stranger) is the best on this instrument and a good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or Òmir Òter.
He sang Stranger for the first time at New Wave in Sochi, Russia in 2021. This is an international competition for young artists, founded in 2002 by Igor Krutoy. Dimash sang here as a guest and was also a member of the jury. Igor Krutoy, like so many other masterpieces, wrote this song specifically for Dimash and his incredible vocal range (in this song alone he sings 5 octaves F1-F6 I think). And the last note he held for 20 seconds. The way he switchs so affortlessly between the different registers and octaves in one song is so mesmerizing and unbelievable.
He performed this song on the same show as Ave Maria, just not on the same day.
Stranger was written by the famous Russian/Ukrainian composer, producer and songwriter Igor Krutoy. He has come out of retirement to work with Dimash. True masterpieces were created. As far as I know, we really don't know the real meaning. Dimash is an artist who often leaves listeners to their own interpretations. In my opinion, many explanations in some of his songs are often just speculation😊.
Please react to Olimpico from his Arnau concert in 2019 next. In this song he sings in Italian. You can find it on Igor Krutoy‘s Channel. Olimpico is another masterpiece that Igor Krutoy wrote especially for Dimash’s vocal skills. It was written for the 2nd European Games in Minsk, Belarus 2019. And that’s why the lyrics are also very motivating.
This song and this performance from this Arnau concert is my absolute favourite🥰 I think this version is the best, because his performance is so intense and breathtaking. The light show, the background dancers. Everything. With this song in this version I always get breathlessness. The way he represents himself on stage, the hand movements. I think he has incredibly beautiful hands🤭(and apparently many cameramen think so too, since many of the camera shots during his performances very often only show his hands. Sometimes it seems as if he is conducting himself. This is really fascinating). And the facial expression, the look. There he looks so commanding😱. In my opinion, this version of Olimpico is one of the most impressive performances ever. If you don't know what the song is about, you'd think he was going to war and is calling his army to a lost battle 😅! It’s absolutely stunning. And I don't even mean the vocal part, but also his stage presence. The whole package. Oh wow I’m starting to rave again…🤤 Sorry but I can’t help it🥺. I swear it is mind-blowing 🤯

The instrument is a Kobyz. It's beautiful, isn't it? I listen to reaction people to get their take on Dimash's talents. I'm glad you focus on the positive aspects. I really appreciate that. I don't know how much you know about Dimash. Here's some of what I have found out by googling his name. He is from Kazakhstan, has had a formal music education since age 5, he is now 29, has competed in many music competitions in Asia and even has here in the U.S. - World's Best put him up against two youngsters, then he backed out of the competition. He did so because in Kazakhstan they don't make kids compete against kids.
He plays several instruments, has a vocal range over 6 octaves, his parents are singers also, and is a generally sweet and humble young man. He sings different genres, giving each his own take on the music. He's composed some of his songs and because of his phenomenal voice, Russian composer, Igor Krutoy came out of retirement to compose music specifically for Dimash. He has covered music from Celine Dion, Bruno Mars, Queen, Lionel Ritchie, and Michael Jackson, producing digital duets with Celine and Michael.
He's very much 'World Peace' oriented and has given a speech at a Central Asian Peace Conference for which he produced a video for his heart wrenching song, 'Story of One Sky'.
His family is most important to him, has supported charities and peoples needing help after natural disasters.

The gentleman playing the Kobyz is master Olzhas Qurmanbeck, the best player in Kazakhstan 🎻🔝 The Kobyz is the first stringed instrument ever. Kobyz is an ancient tool of the Kazakh people. It was used in ancient times by steppe shamans-healers for various rites. Kobyzy is made from a single piece of wood. This is one of the oldest ways of making musical instruments in the history of mankind. It is not due to technical backwardness or the lack of metal devices. According to the ancient beliefs of many people, only in a single piece will the living singing soul of the tree remain, which will sound in the instrument. The open body and strings of the kobyz from a bunch of 30-60 untwisted horse hair give a very thick, overtone-rich timbre. 🔝🔝

Dimash has at least a Red belt in Taekwondo fyi , no two songs are alike, this isn't US pop stuff, each and every song is unique and in almost every genre of music. wait until you watch the MV of The Story of One Sky. Dimash arrived out of that portal at the back, from……., and shows up in an ancient monastery, with a mission, but he feels he has already been here before, and is not quite ready………So next is Fly Away, where he comes across the need to do things his way,……then mission accomplished, he returns back to where he came from in Ave Maria, rising like the being that he is.
These three songs are all from the 2022 New Wave concert for the annual competition at Sochi, Russia. He has teamed up with the pianist there, famous self made multi-billionaire composer, producer, star maker, who came out of semi-retirement to work with Dimash when possible. Together they are an appointment from heaven, and have many performances you need to see.

Yes, it's the ancient precursor to the violin and has many different spellings. I go with the simplest: kobyz (pronounced "kobus"). To me, this song represents his quest to take his music to all countries in the world in dozens of different languages and genres. And he IS strong enough to handle it and keep reinventing himself.

You might be interested to know that, aside from all his other attributes, Dimash practised taekwondo as a teenager and says he got nearly to red belt level. He had to give it up when he kept getting injured - which interfered with his singing - but he’s been practising again latterly with a trainer, to keep fit ....

I actually thought the song was all about Immigration.... the lyrics, the large, swirly fingerprint behind him when he starts sings.... you know? I can see your thoughts, as well. Dimash is the BEST. Dimash Qudaibergenov is the best male singer in the world now n he has a 6+ octave n operatic background with a PhD in music n that's makes him the voice of an angel 👍 Diana Ankudinova is the best female singer in the world now too she has a very rare contralto n polyphonic/harmonical overtones voices that's makes Diana one n only voice of mother nature 👍
