      Thanks. It really varies based on season. Right now, pork roasts are moving slow. Jowels and shanks can be slow movers until we share recipes on how to fix them and then they move good. Usually have plenty of sausage (breakfast). It keeps us on our toes!

      @@SheratonParkFarms We have ours done sausage pork chops bacon and ham steaks only. Breakfast mild Italian and hot Italian sausage in bulk 1 Lb packs and always sell out It is what works for us. But we try to sell whole or half hogs and let the customer have it cut their way.

      Sheraton Park Farms I’ve thought about getting into meat chickens. Right now I only have cattle. I have half of the heard commercial cows and half registered black angus. This fall I plan on building a small barn for meat sheep and have a chicken coop attached. I’m not planning on selling eggs or butchered lambs but I’m wanting to raise my own lambs for butcher and have fresh eggs. I actually found your channel when I was looking up some info for sheep.

    And you really need some kind of fruit growing on your farm so that when you’re out selling your meats you can also sell some kind of drink for people to enjoy. Let it be some farm raised lemons or lemonade or cucumbers for some cucumber watermelon water or something where people can grab a handy little cup of something to drink for two bucks while they shop for some meats. You’ve already got the sweetener with your farm raised honeybees and ice is pretty cheap you were just need some kind of cup system. Here in China we all have these cup machines where you put in the liquid then you put the machine then you put the cup in the machine and it seals a plastic lid on top that you can pop a straw through makes it spill proof and keeps it nice and fresh

    • @AllHouseRecords
      @AllHouseRecords 4 роки тому

      It’s the cheapest way to have cups with your logo and branding without having to buy cups and lids the lids are basically on a big reel and it just stamps the lids on each cup

    This was a great video. Do you have freezer/gel packs in the coolers with the meat? If so what kind do you use? Curious about the eggs too. Here in ohio you have to keep the eggs cold if you sell at a farmers market. It's not the same in NC? I like your set up. I bet keeping the eggs out like that helps sell more.

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  4 роки тому +5

      Yes we use the Cooler Shock packs. amzn.to/3rxpPcX
      We don't sell quite enough eggs to have to keep them refrigerated. I think it is a 30 dozen limit before you have to meet all the regulations. Keeping the eggs on display absolutely helps sell. Folks love the colors and different sizes.
      Thanks for watching!

    Hey Chuck, thanks for another great video with lots of helpful information. Love your market set up, fairly simple and yet very appealing to the eye. I noticed you doing most of your data work on your tablet. Do you use a specific software program or does everything you need com with the Square Up payment processing software? Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience.

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  4 роки тому +1

      So everything is in the square app and on their website. They have some VERY POWERFUL reporting options that we've used to make decision on what cuts to get, what sausages to make and other adjustments to make to maximize our market days. The data is super helpful for us and makes a huge difference. We love the equipment, program and service from square. Appreciate ya'll watching!

    Wow! That's a setup. great info as usual. What do you find does better? Selling shares of a whole animal or selling the USDA cuts? Also do you have to have the poultry processed USDA in order to sell them at the market? Or does the 1000 bird exemption allow that?

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  4 роки тому +1

      So selling cuts is much more profitable. Its easy to find folks who are interested in a whole or side animal but when you start talking about cost, they tend to lose interest even though its a GREAT bargain. For example, a whole or half cow will end up at about $7.00 - $7.25 a pound in your freezer. That includes steaks, roasts, ground, the works. We sell individual packs of ground beef for $8.49/lb all the way up to filets at $28.99/lb so the bulk purchase is a WAY better deal but its going to cost $1000 - $2500 depending on how much you buy.
      NC has an on farm poultry exemption that allows us to process on farm. We can do up to 20,000 birds here to package and sell. Couple of stipulations like we can't sell across state lines.....no problem.
      Here is a link to a map that shows what different states allow:
      www.farmtoconsumer.org/poultry-map/
      Thanks for watching.

    • @tomaswilson2792
      @tomaswilson2792 4 роки тому

      @@SheratonParkFarms that's been my experience as well selling shares of a whole animals to folks. Makes allot more sense now that you're able to bring poultry to market having the 20,000 bird exemption. We're just at the 1000 for our farm which in alabama poultry has to be USDA processed to bring it to a farmers market.

    • @tomaswilson2792
      @tomaswilson2792 4 роки тому +1

      @@SheratonParkFarms thanks for the link! Got some clarification and it appears I CAN bring poultry to the farmers market!

    • @SheratonParkFarms
      @SheratonParkFarms  4 роки тому +1

      @@tomaswilson2792 that's good news! Its more cost effective for you and I believe just a safe. I grew up in a town that had a Tyson poultry processing plant. One USDA inspector for a line that was processing thousands of birds per hour. Can't help but think his "inspection" was brief at best!

    • @SheratonParkFarms
