Production projection figures obtained by Drive indicate that the next version of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport four-wheel drive wagon will arrive in local showrooms in 2025, roughly 12 months after its new Mitsubishi Triton truck brother. Drive has seen documents indicating that, barring any delays, the next Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, the first new model in eight years, will hit international Mitsubishi showrooms by the end of 2024 or early 2025.
Accordingly, the next generation of Mitsubishi Triton ute, which is scheduled to be unveiled this year ahead of Australian showroom arrivals in late 2023 or early 2024, is expected to follow about 12 months after its sister under the skin. Drive discovered production projections that suggest this timing corresponds to the next-generation Mitsubishi Pajero Sport arriving in Australian showrooms in 2025.
Though the 2019 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is still mostly unknown, it is anticipated that it will take a lot of cues from the Triton truck, with which it shares a lot of its mechanical components and foundations. According to spy pictures, the next Mitsubishi Triton is supposed to have a more aggressive exterior appearance and ride on a larger wheelbase, which should provide additional internal room. Apart from their distinctive body shapes, the styling distinctions between the current Triton ute and Pajero Sport wagon are confined to subtle front bumper modifications and custom wheel designs. There are still unanswered questions about the engine, four-wheel drive system, suspension, brakes, and turning radius of the upcoming Triton, and hence the Pajero Sport.
When the current Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is replaced, it will be the second-oldest car in the ute-based four-wheel-drive wagon class, behind the 2015-arrived Toyota Fortuner, which won't be replaced until 2025.
