  • The main reaction to my last video was "This is like a wizard pipe!", or "It's a pipe a hobbit would be proud to smoke!". Well, this new pipe would fit that description better in style, and I also show many different techniques to achieve the same results as before, if not even better.

    What you do with wood is nothing short of art. A beautiful pipe. You have inspired me to try this. Im a newbie to turning, just a couple years now. I recently BEAT cancer and not able to return to work as of yet. The treatments beat me up pertty bad but Im getting better each passing day. Im glad to have my little backyard wood shop for crafts as it has given me many hours of peaceful enjoyment. Thank you Yuval for doing such good video, very interesting and informative, it is waking my mind up to learning again and gives me something I enjoy while Im recouping. It is a long road to getting past the cancer and treatments. If not for my woodshop, I would be losing my mind from boredom. Thank you again.

      Thank you Jame! I'm glad to hear you were able to beat cancer, and I'm sure a creative hobby is something that will help keep your mind and body while you're still recuperating. I found my little backyard shop a therapeutic area as well, even if I'm not in the mood for creating, sitting in there thinking always calms me down. If there's anything I can do help (other then post videos with time), let me know!

      Thank you Earl! In one of my older videos, I finished the video in a scene where I smoke a cigaret and drink some iced tea to celebrate the ending of the really long and hard project (my torus hollow form), and the amount of people complaining about that 5 seconds of me smoking was staggering...

      Try drilling at a slower rate of speed. The more heat you make the more the cutter gets dulled which leads to more heat and dullness. A sharp cutter at lower speed will cut rather than burn through the wood.

    Just a note: for safety, cut the shank on your round-nosed spade drill to half its length or even less; will help reduce vibration or ... put a large wad of plumber's putty (roughly the size of your palm) on the shank molding it up and around the drill chuck as well.

    I got an idea since hole can curve like that, the pipe pot part, from middle bottom, curve to top part area(highest and gap abit), so the spread of fire like from middle(we burn abit) then pulled from sides(so the chances of fire/coal doesnt stop if Tobacco-only) to keep spreading. From below is only 1 small point, it is to pull it around.

    It reminds me a little bit of those radical looking wood sculptures that are done using electricity. Maybe he could add some bright colored acrylic resin in those grooves and then sand it so they show in the little grooves and the wood shows as well. It would look kind of “magical“. Just a thought… Otherwise, it’s perfectly amazing as it is!

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you Daniel! I was going for a natural "bark", or even "warmy" look, but putting some light colored resin in the groves is a great idea!! I might do it someday soon.

    I remember reading somewhere that oak is a poor choice for a pipe you intend to smoke out of as it is itself carcinogenic when it burns. I know many will say it's redundant but why make it any more health dangerous than need be. Let me know if I'm wrong but many pipe makers have said it in the past. But bit looks good!

    • @yuvallahav
      @yuvallahav  Рік тому

      You are half correct, as some Oak it toxic, some of it is not. So same with mushrooms, unless you know 100% that can use it, don't use it. This specific Oak is Holm's Oak and have been used for pipe making in Europe for many generations.
