- Houston Rockets NBA Draft Lottery Luck: Pick Lands Top-4? Alex Sarr, Donovan Clingan, Stephon Castle
Host Jackson Gatlin (@JTGatlin) is joined by weekly cohost and NBA Draft enthusiast Madison Moore (@MadManLeaks) to discuss what happens if the Houston Rockets land a top-4 pick via the NBA Draft Lottery (27.4% chance) and which targets at the top of the draft make the most sense from a fit and talent perspective, like NBL's Alex Sarr, and the duo from UConn Donovan Clingan and Stephon Castle, strengths and weaknesses, NBA comps and more.

COMMENT: Who would you like the Rockets to draft if either of their picks lands top-4?
Donovan Clingan. We need a young center.
Top four is wide open. Sarr, Clingan, or Castle depending on who is available.
Came back after we got the third pick
We get the 3rd pick Yesuh😂🎉
Reed Shepherd. His skill set fits like a glove in Houston. Best shooter in the draft. Insanely efficient player with 54/52/83 splits. Underrated defender averaging 2.5 steals per game. And really good playmaker getting 2.25 assist/TO ratio.
Reed should be a no-brainer for this Rockets team that desperately needs shooting. Also a huge bonus that he can replace Fred when his massive contract comes off the books.
We got the #3 pick lol
Suddenly, this episode is waaaaaay more relevant!
I like knect, dillingham, or Sheppard for us just to add some shooting also if Ron holland drops too us gives us another athletic defender but he needs to work on that jump shot
If it wasnt fixed it would all be aired live
Our pick should jump up they owe us after gifting away wemby
Its 100 percent rigged
I knew it last year the moment I heard Detroit landed the fifth pick. I knew right then that Houston was going to get the fourth pick. I also knew all along that San Antonio was going to get the first pick. Everyone says Pop is a great coach. But only when he has a top talent like Robinson, Duncan or Wemby. Someone explain to me how the Spurs finished with 22 wins after landing a generational talent in Wemby. That is only two wins more than the year before.
I like Castle think his upside could be Jimmy Bulter. But at this point we need shooters not sure if we can afford to bring in another non shooter to this team.
But then again if you are in a top 4 you are drafting for upside
If the rockets are in the six to ten range they need to get a guy that can shoot that’s why I’m cool with Reed Sheppard or Dalton Kencht
I’m cool with Clingan too since we do need a big because your not sure if Adams is going to be healthy a whole season
Imo we should find a way to trade up so where we can get both Sheppard and Knecht. These 2 are some of the best shooters I've seen in a while if we can get both of them this team will be complete offensively while they're already set defensively
He's a Ben Simmons 2.0. His other comp would be ... believe it or not, Draymond Green
@@VanIyke Dont see the playmaking with him to compare him with Green and Simmons
@@nocap6000We got the third pick bro I have no idea what are we going to do with that pick how did we get so lucky three years in a row 😂
Euroleague? Perth is in Western Australia
THE MOUTAIN SIR DONVAON CLINGAN!
I think this draft is actually going to be really interesting, like 5 years down the line. There are a lot of players who have extremely high ceilings but low floors as well. Even the number 1 pick isnt a straight into the starting 5 player. look at holland, he has an extremely high ceiling but could also be a dead set bust if he doesnt get offense.
It's hard to say where I would want to try to improve the team. Obviously we need better shooting, but that's because some of our BEST players are poor shooters. I'm going to sit back and hope that the team makes the best decisions.
After Wemby went to San Antonio last I’ve been convinced lottery was rigged its place he wanted to go n with Tony Parker being his mentor they made it happen
I knew the Spurs were getting Wemby. Only Pop can be a good coach, gets lucky in the draft. As soon as they announced the Pistons were fifth last year, I knew the Rockets were fourth. Sure enough.
Agreed. Needs to be done in public so everyone can see. Wemby didn’t want to go to Detroit or Houston
I really don't know any new players from college which one is better overall
As a European, hearing Maddison talk about an Australian Club as a European team which plays in the euroleague makes me feel a lot of pain. But besides that, still a great episode!! This stuff can happen sometimes (esp. with N/A education😉)
Sooo what do we do with that 3rd now? Where you at Jackson? 😂
I have seen a little of Castle and Clingan. I like Castle. I'm really hoping the Rockets trade one or both picks if we land them. this draft is so weak that I think we would be better served by either kicking the can down the road by swapping this pick for future picks or trading for a player who can fit around what we now have. I still believe we need a PF backup center type or a backup PG we can start grooming. I like Fred, but once we start having to pay some of these guys Fred is likely out due to cap restrictions. I'm not high on Jabari. I'm hoping I'm wrong, if so would be the best crow I every ate. He needs a big leap this year to prove we are still justified in investing valueable time and energy developing him. right now Jabari concerns would have me looking for PF if I was part of the Rocket think tank
Stone is doing a good job building the Rockets. Looking at the long term. Right now the Rockets core is Sengun, Green, Smith, Eason, Amen, Cam along with veterans FVV, Brooks, and Adams. That is your nine man rotation. Eventually, the Rockets will need to replace the three veterans so they need another center, wing, and pg. Next three drafts will land those three replacements. Of course, Stone is always looking for upgrades. Upgrades are hard to do. Look how Westbrook worked out for the Rockets. Need to find a SGA diamond in the rough like the Thunder did when the Clippers gave up the farm to get George. Smoke them.
No Evan Mobley comp for Sarr is crazy work
The Rockets need to add size....the Timberwolves should be the blueprint. Three legit bigs
@@DC-dy8hh we have a legit chance at Sarr or Clingan now
@@DoubleDouble45We need a solid 7 ft Center & and sniper at pick 12. Or 2 big men that can defend and shoot. We have enough tough guards Amen and Cam were draft gems. Tari developed well too
@@aaronc89 we don’t have pick 12… it’s with the Thunder now
@@DoubleDouble45 With the 3rd fuck the 12th. I thought I saw something that said we had both. We need a legit 7ft rebounder/ defender. Boban is a senior citizen. Alpi can't run the show alone against a KAT x Rudy G type team. Jabari is a stretch 4. We have enough guards to invest in a big first round.
Reed Sheppard is my top choice first and foremost. Perfect fit for this roster.
If we end up with pick 9 and Sheppard off the board:
Rob Dillingham
Dalton Knect
Matas Buzalis
Matas being mocked much earlier than 9 these days. I've been seeing him in the 3/4 range a lot.
If we stick at #9, Im going for Ke'le Ware
Too early. Better to trade back a few spots.
The pick we got from the nets we also owe to okc?
no. just the rockets pick. they were saying they can keep their own pick if the ping pong balls roll our way and we land in the top 4 (7% chance). We keep the Nets pick regardless.
Just happened. Rockets get the number three pick. They were due. Either Castle or Clingan will be joining the Rockets barring a trade.
Reed
Tbh outside of Sarr, I’m struggling to see the fit with Castle and Clingan with the guys already on the roster.
I get that they’re both great defenders, but Houston already has a ton of quality defenders. Their biggest weakness is outside shooting and it’s the skill that will get a guy minutes next to guys like Amen and Sengun who have struggled beyond the arc.
After Sarr, I think this becomes a complete draft for fit draft and their are great fits like Reed Shepherd or Cody Williams or Rob Dillingham that Houston should NOT be passing up on imo, unless it’s for Sarr.
I think y’all could’ve dived deeper into how these guys fit next to Houston’s most valuable young player, Sengun a bit more honestly because I don’t see how the fit makes much sense imo.
Clingan fits well in a backup center role. Forget Landale and Boban. Landale is a journeyman and Boban is an old bench player. Adams is the backup center so Clingan will be behind him until Adams moves on. Castle is a solid wing player that can play point guard. Needs a little work on his three point shot. Can be Dillon's replacement who can also fill in at point guard. Rockets are getting to the point where they want upgrades and will have to package to get them. Thunder are in the same spot only with more first round picks coming up.
@@greglyon1402 we have a lot of players already that struggle with shooting between Sengun, Amen, and even Jalen. Drafting another poor shooter makes lineups incredibly difficult to configure if you have four rotation players that are unreliable from 3.
If you want an upgrade at backup big, you can sign Isaiah Hartenstein in FA. But players that shoot 54/52/83 with 2.25 assist to TO ratio are much more difficult to come by than defensive bigs. Plus you can find room for a guy like Reed to play with Sengun or honestly anyone on the roster. There is not one single player on Houston that Reed can’t play next to in a given lineup, whereas Clingan will be capped at 17 minutes a game due to being unplayable next to Sengun and Amen who both lack sufficient jumpers.
Clingan and Al P seem clunky to me
Last yrs lottery was definitely FIXED. I called it the moment I knew Wemby was being advised by Tony Parker. Let's hope this yrs lottery is above board
Hell even Stevie Wonder seen the fix was in. That shit was so evident it wasn’t even funny
Crazier things have happened in the draft
Well...
I am invested enough that I can tell you, if memory isn't failing me, that his name was spelled 'Erick'. I'm going to look it up now.
17 min a game for the "number 1 pick" is alarming hopefully Atlanta will take him off the board
What happens if the Rockets get the #1 & #2 picks???
That'll be nuts
Draft night is rigged!! it won’t happened
Sarr and Castle, and listen to offers.
Clingan #3 lets go
40% 3P Shooter ... Shooter.....Shooter. If possible with a good defense.... If that s not the case then a potential SGA !
Most of the good shooters in this draft are not good defenders.
Clingan backing up Sengun is ideal to me
He would be the third center cause we have Adams. Sitting a year and learning from Adams would be ideal
@@alfredmatthews1746 We also have Landale, who played well the last part of the season.
I like Clingan and Sengun as the Rockets centers. Landale is a journeyman center. Easy to sign one in free agency. Adams is going to be a solid backup center until his time is up. But Stone is always looking for upgrades.
@@vonstev1668 i'll be shocked if landale is on the roster next season. if we waive him we get cap space.
If we can’t get a shooter, trade it
They got the 3 pick 🎉🎉🎉
*"God's Plan" begins playing*
Ron Holland would be my pick if he’s available.
Hey you guys wayyy under value the skills of Alex Sarr. To compare him to Lindale is ridicules. The guys handles are great for a big man. He played center on his team Holmgrem had a 7ft center on his team in college. He played a forward. So that comparison is also off. He is a long athletic center who can be an All Star if he gets with the right coaching. Teams do a terrible job developing big men who have post skills. They’re only concerned about the 3 ball. Until the playoffs when the game becomes half court. Then the ability to post up and score becomes a luxury. The ability to block shots and get those easy put backs tipped passes clogging up the post. All those become a luxury in the playoffs. On winning teams. The Rockets desperately need that. Not a 6’1” guard.
Why the Rockets need Clingan, one word - Wemby.
Rockets lack a shooter & a Big. But problem with Clingan is injury. Already has a history of this. So unless the Rockets jave a A+ medical team, they should find another big in the draft. And this class has at least five other decent/alternate ones.
Castle is a Ben Simmons 2.0. Which makes his comp more of Draymond Green.
Bigs tend to get injured more. More weight on their foot. Look at Yao Ming, Sam Bowie, Zion, Chet. to name a few.
@@greglyon1402Chet just played 82 games this season.
Trade the pick for a top pick next year..the class should be better.
I do like the 7ft 2 Donavan.
Houston doesn't ever have luck in the draft. Im sure they'll get screwed here too.
They got the number 3 pick
In the last three drafts, the Rockets have fallen back in the draft. They are due for a move up.
goodluck..
Zach Eddy
Not worth a lottery pick
Zach Edey would be a good one if hes there for the nets pick
Zach was the only center I knew of, now that I know about the other prospects at center I'll be happy with which ever one they pick between Zach and Alexander! Go Rockets.
Draft star or Eddy, trade Alp... This guy says if star doesn't bring the shooting or blocking to be a Starter??? Alp dosent bring that neither and yet he is a UNDERSIZED starter at the 5
Why trade Alp ? Y’all casual have the worst takes
Eddy is not a lottery pick
Bro wtf why do we need to trade our best player?

This is a crazy take he’s 6’11 now 😂 and we had a top 10 defense bro
