I don't understand why bar spinners exist. Surely almost all of the energy of a fly wheel is stored furthest away from the centre, so why waste potential energy by having so much weight near the centre.
Uh... could you explain the rest of us how Duck performing _exactly as intended_ has anything to do with luck? it was not a fluke, it was clear that the fight was gonna end that way. Duck _LOVES_ vertical spinners, and its stated strategy against them is "let them hit until they either break themselves or get jammed in the carnage". Now, if you were talking about Minotaur vs Tombstone, two heavyweights hitting each other with al they're worth and which somehow does NOT end in a demolition KO (what both bots are always going for) but by one of them high-centering itself on a piece of debris, which is NOT their usual strategy... yes, that's "unlucky circumstances". But Duck, of all bots, winning that way? That's not "unlucky", that's "all according to plan".

Wow. Deep Six ripping his own guts out was brutal. If not for the detailed breakdown of the event I would have not realized what have just happened. When I saw the bot at first, I thought that being so tall with a such a small base will make it very easy to topple, but I had no idea it could topple itself to death so easily. They've gotta seriously rethink this design.
When I saw it, I thought, this guy put too many points into robotics and not enough into engineering. I'm no Issac Newton, but when I saw that big hammer spin up, I knew things weren't going to end well lol.. You can kind tell by eye if something is wonky. don't mess with the centrifugal.
Duck did nothing in the first fight. Say what you want about robot wars but that shows the advantage of having some neutral robots in the arena to destick opponents due to issues that weren't the fault of the roboteers like that

I think it's a modular floor that can be exchanged and moved (as seen in Las Vegas). If you make it thicker, you probably still get chunks cut out of it since these bots have lots of energy. Just imagine 20kg of hardened metal travelling around 200mph hitting non-hardened steel. The cost and effort to replace the plates would be even higher.

While I agree that getting stuck on a damaged floor is a nasty way to loose a battle, it is also the same floor the other robot is fighting on. The other robot stands a change of getting caught on the floor too, so the battlefield is even. If one bot has a design that won’t get hung up on a floor deformity, then it was the right design for that battle. That said, I do feel that it would be better they could free the robots from a damaged floor but that would mean stopping the fight and repairing the floor before continuing. Perhaps they could make it a rule that the other robot has to power down the weapon, unstick the opponent, and both bots resume the battle from their respective square or neutral corner with both weapons already at full power when they resume. But only once for each robot. Then they would both have to use driving skill to avoid the damaged bit, or push the opponent onto the damaged bit.

If Minotaur wasn't unlucky enough to get tangled up in that piece of metal, I'd say Tomb Stone would surely be destroyed in no time. Too bad they didn't show the reaction of Minotaur pilot. I gotta give it to minotaur, that thing is weaponised vibranium, if he didn't get stuck he might have tanked the shots and won, especially if the drum kept going.

Other robots have specific mechanisms to stand up or unstuck themselves. If you make a flat puck of a robot just glued to the floor and getting stuck on everything slightly uneven on the arena floor. Then that is the risk you are taking. I think it is only fair that duck won.
Easy to be durable when you spend virtually no resources and space on an active weapon. Duck should have never been allowed to compete in the first place.
Sadly battlebots has been infamous for having a terrible arena design that has cost many bots a win. Robot wars has such a superior arena design. Rarely did a bot get stuck on the floor and the ref bot made sure of that when it was inducted.

The outer walls (the last line of defense for the audience) literally broke from a bot getting FLIPPED into it, the inner walls would constantly shatter from impacts (when they finally installed some in Series 5) and the disc of doom from Series 6/Extreme 2 would always get bots stuck under it - fortunately being removed for series 7. But above all else, the floor was made of wood, which was obviously a way of being cheap, but led to robots literally tearing up the floor with their wedges alone - not to mention Supernova losing the Third World Championship because their spinner literally burrowed them into the floor. The reboot arena was better in terms of floor quality, but then you have the side panels that detach easily and the walls being unable to withstand the likes of Apex.
So often I see the bots with the hammers barely using their weapons. And then they launch it at the worst possible occasions. Gjhhaaa so unsatisfying! 😅
8:00 is why I don't understand why anyone makes hammer weapons. They were in position for a strike for about 5 whole seconds and then managed to miss. I've never seen anyone have anything like decent timing with them, it's always like the guy with the button is having a tea break.
my only ciritique of battle bots is the lack of a pit in the arena, robot wars had one and it created more options for wining the battle and some comical mishaps from poor driving, think if that was added into battle bots it would create some interesting battles given the robots competing and mean less fights going to decision
Why, in this situation (Cobalt Duck) when a bot is clearly stuck on the floor, can't they go in to try to free it? They DO this when two BOTS are stuck together so why not bot-to-floor stuck? It is truly ridiculous that a robot like Duck, tossed around the arena and damaged horribly, can be the winner!

Agreed. In the Robot Wars Series 9 Grand Final a fight was paused to repair the arena after spinner Aftershock damaged the floor and flipper Apollo got stuck under one of the panels, so no real excuse for Battlebots not to pause the fight, carry out repairs to the floor and let the bout resume.
Tombstone and Minotour is one of the best Battlebots fights ever. Hit after hit no one backs down till the very end, master show, master main event.
