I grew up in San Francisco, and in an ocean town called Santa Cruz, both, far far too expensive places to ever call home forever. I have developed such a deep appreciation for Korean Culture over the last couple of years. It's, a place, where you work really really hard, but you don't forget to play, and everything you guys do for fun, builds community. I'm pretty sure, that's why the culture, and music, are taking over the world. I'm lucky to live in Colorado now, where, Korean culture is so accessible and so much part of my day to day life now. Korean, Thai, Southern Indian, and Vietnamese, the food here is amazing. Food is the first window, then music, then friends, and, I realize so many things I've been missing as someone born in the USA .

My heart, is still Latino, my skin says I'm white, but I will meet someday, an Asian girl, with the kind of soul that your students all show, especially the woman, right of frame, just having a moment of love for herself.
I understand plenty of Japanese, I lost most of my Mandarin but it comes back easily when I can talk to someone, I understand Spanish, speak it poorly, but understand a lot, it was my second language, until I went to elementary school in Chinatown. And middle school, two blocks from Japan Town, in the Western Addition, I have always been surrounded by so much love, from so many people who don't look like me at all. I'm a kind of typically attractive white boy, mostly Scottish, a little German, born in California, very very poor, to a mom who was 15 when I was born, turned 16 a month later. I've had a very, strange experience, as someone born here. I've been talking to friends lately, who keep reminding me, of stories that I, just never thought about. Twice, I threw my sweatshirt at my best friend, and dove off the pier half a mile into the ocean, because someone needed my help. Swam a boy, who got pulled out by a riptide back to shore, and talked to him about Pokemon to help him stay calm the whole way, I said "I promise, I am a very very good swimmer, we will get back to shore, just lay on my chest, I'm gonna swim backwards, it might feel a little scary, because you can't see where we are going, but I promise, we will get there, Squirtle is my favorite, he's always my first pick, then, I love Growlithe, who's your favorite? It was Cubone, I think, he identified with Cubone, because it wasn't his mom who saved him, it was a random guy like me.
Just, someone, not afraid, to save someone else. I got stepped over so many times when I was a poor kid living in a box, or a car on the street. Now, when I see, anyone, who needs help, I dive in, 35ft drop right over the side of the pier, and comfort them, while we go get back on our feet, on dry land again.
