    DISCLAIMER:
    Jazza posted a response on someone else'a comment, he and Tash had previously discussed how much hair he could get, the scene of him cutting it off was solely meant as a comedy bit. Neither the horse, nor Tash's dignity or wallet were harmes in the making of the scene.
    The outpouring of care for the horse is very heartwarming, but I'm putting this here so everyone knows that it's all alright.
    Have a great day, you!

      Lani Louise Horse hair grows back so quick! The horse was not injured. You can relax, there’s no need to be upset how much he cut. Even if he cut it all off it will still grow back. Horse hair is also used in many wigs. That right there should give you an idea how much you can cut off a horse.

      @@shyannerainey7360 I found this generic brand of brushes at my local fabric store that hold up pretty well for being dirt cheap. I don't know the brand, but they have transparent handles and a pencil grip right before the brush head that really help with control. Yeah, normally that happens with cheaper brushes.. Which is what I buy because I'm not that grate at taking care of them and don't have the money for better brushes. Now if I could make a living off of my art and then be able to right them off on my taxes then, yeah I would start buying higher quality materials all around the board and not just brushes.

      Nah, funnily enough horse hair (usually called pony, camel, or just "natural bristle" brushes) is primarily used for inexpensive brushes that children or beginners use. It can be used alone or blended with other "inferior" animal hair, like boar, goat, and ox. In the hierarchy of natural hair brushes, horse hair is low. Badger, squirrel, and sable (a mink-like animal) are the more expensive hairs used in brushes, with specific types of sable being very expensive and desirable.

How about, instead of complaining that your precious UA-camr is getting criticism for his actions, we stop trying to validate everything someone does and say “yeah maybe he should have put a disclaimer”, rather than insisting to the UA-cam gods that a creator couldn’t have made a mistake, and everyone ELSE needs to accept everything when he could have handled something like this way better.

    To make a brush using real hair:
    1) Age the Hair. What this is, is you take the hair, and leave it out to dry from the oils in the hair.
    2) Condition the Hair. After drying out the natural oils through Aging, you need to wash and re-condition the hair. If you need to straighten the hair, do that after the wash and before the Conditioning. Mink or Civet oil works the best, Avocado and Sunflower oil can also work.
    By Aging and Conditioning the hair, you end up with a softer feel, making the hair easier to work with as a brush.
    3) Separate thinner strands from thicker strands. Use gently, sandpaper on tips to tapper.
    4) Use thicker strands to form the base rigid parts of the brush, and the thinner strands to form the taper, using the finest hairs to form the tips.
    5) Pre-shape in the housing you will crimp to.
    6) The tricky part: Turning the strands of hair to manage their natural directions into the form of the brush you wish to make. This ensures the longevity of the shape of your brush.
    7) The best part: You don't cut the usable side of the brush, you pull and push the strands, cutting from the non-usable side only.
    8) Use a good crimping tool, and not pliers.
    NOTE: different brush shapes will have differing additive steps to these.

And on the other hand, you don't need to know how to make some things to enjoy them and be able to apply criticism (The whole point of critics is they are people that are skilled in perceiving what is right or wrong in a creation rather than being able to take manual part in the creative process)
      Jazza is a thoroughfully skilled individual, and he's shown great skills testing some things for the first time. But he's human and prone to actually fail from time to time.

    Watching you talk about the value of horse hair brought me back to my violin days, because if you wanted a really nice bow the best bows for violins we’re actually made from horse hair and violin bows for a full size violin is like 32 inches long and cost anywhere from $800-$8000 depending on the quality of the horse hair. Which is so crazy because a good bow can cost $8000 plus a good violin can cost $8000 or higher if you want a professional one. It’s crazy! As someone who OWNS HORSES. people SHAVE horses manes. like a buzz cut. that's just gonna bother the owner not the horse.
    the horses clearly fine and it doesn't matter if the horse is missing hair. Itd be better with a shorter mane tbh. less hair to try to comb out

    • @Xanthelei
      @Xanthelei 4 роки тому +51

      Friesians specifically are considered more "to breed" with long hair, however. Jazza isn't lying when he says you can value a Friesian's mane at $1k per inch. The horse doesn't care one bit if it has all that hair or not, it's not like cutting a horse's hair is going to cause it physical harm, nor will letting it grow out completely naturally. So yes, it's only going to affect the owner, but no, a Friesian horse isn't 'better' with shorter hair.

    • @olivia5723
      @olivia5723 4 роки тому +27

      Xanthelei I mean for the horses sake- it’s less yanking on the horse and less knots/dirt etc. Also now Frisians as a horse have lower prices so I doubt it’s still 1k per inch.

      @janemiettinen5176 4 роки тому +5

      As to my understanding, horses have evolved to have manes to flick off flies and other irritants from skin and provides shielding from the elements - so they arent there just to be pretty or for little girl to braid, neither are the long tails. Its usually only the (quickly disappearing) working horses that get totally buzzed or cut real short and even then its more of a safety matter than anything else. So, I wouldnt cut a hobby or pet horses mane or tail too much, but thats just me. And in this case it doesnt matter anyway, since the situation was staged.
      Ps. The short version of mane is usually done by plucking when the horse is “warm” after a good session, only the very rest is cut to level the ends. I mean like the horse version of a crewcut, what Norwegian fjordies have naturally. Or zebras.

So buying hair from well known stallions or from certain breeds already known for their hair, like Friesians, plus the owners of those horses not being willing to let the hair go for little can drive up the price.
