Love the images you managed to get. Grouse and heather go well together, don't they? Very useful tips too, and I agree that the bean bag looked more secure when you had the window up a bit.
I am familiar with the "photograph from the car hide" technique for both Red and Black Grouse. Some excellent tips Paul, some of which I already apply but some new ones to try out .... thank you. The state of your car floor! .... definitely the sign of a proper wildlife watcher/photographer 😂
Beautiful shots! There is a park near me with designated pull over spots that put you shootings out the passenger side. I actually mount the camera on a monopod and put it between the seat and console. It’s quite comfortable to hold it this way. Love the grouse, ours are very skittish. I think I have one grouse shot running away from me looking over its shoulder!
Remember that your wing mirror also usually collapses inward with a little hand pressure on the outer mirror tip pulling it towards the car. Check you car manual or UA-cam to make sure your car can do this. Most modern cars do.
Great advice there Paul, enjoyed the video. Some modern day cars (evs) have camera wing mirrors so basically a stalk that sticks out so less to get in the way. Also hybrids and evs don't have that idle shaking and you can creep (especially evs) silently.
Wing mirrors there are an awful lot of numpties around here that either don't realise they have them or don't understand how they are used. Good tips, need to try and get a trip to the north York moors rather than the western dales, before the heather fades
Hi, I'm going to Hawes soon to photograph the red squirrel's. We're is the best place to photograph the red grouse. With out stone walls on both sides. I keep looking on Google map but can not find a place. Can you help?
Beautiful shots. I use a SpeediGimbal window attachment when I photograph from the car.
"feathered one" that's brilliant 😂😂
It just popped into my head..
Gorgeous grouse images. Great tips. ❤❤❤❤
Very kind. Thanks Chris.

Absolutely love the heather, always have. I always try to do at least one trip here in August

yeah, I noticed it was a bit messy.. Lol. To be fair the rest of the car is pretty damn clean!

Raising the widow a bit is a great tip Paul. So obvious I would never have thought of it😅.
Cheers Jack. Yeah.. the little things sometimes! I just thought of it one day - and it always feels better that way to me.
Great tips Paul and nice images enjoyed this video 👏👏
Thank you Paul.
Hi Paul, great video with your tips. Could you tell me the brand and model of the bean bag? Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
it's an old version Double Bean Bag from wildlifewatchingsupplies.co.uk
Enjoy the helpful tips! Do you ever switch to manual focus when the subject is behind vegetation that moves in the breeze?
Thank you. Yes, occasionally I do, if it just won't focus. It's a case of - do whatever it takes!
This is where our US left-hand drive cars make it easier because it's more natural to shoot toward your left.
I've never thought of that. But yes, it probably is. We are unusual over here..
Does the mirror fold in?
Yeah. But I never know when I need to move so I probably shouldn't. Might try it next time though, if it's quiet.
