One thing about the retro Cube is that because midrange is so much less dominating, you have space to play these more specialized, kinda whacky decks. It's just hard to compete with things designed to have an impact in a 4-player Commander game like Minsc & Boo, Canonneer, Bombadiers, etc. Right now, I don't miss them.
This format definitely gives LSV more room to cook and have it work out. You can't really do that when your opponent's 1-4 drops win the game on their own and you lose if you don't have removal or your own game-winning snowball threat.
Wanted to thank you for all the vintage cube videos throughout the years, but especially over the last couple months. I only really play magic when I'm drafting cube now, and had a really bad cube season the last time it was out. Almost decided to stop drafting cube altogether. Watched your videos and your months long losing streak and actually found a lot of solace in it. Gave retro cube another shot and won 9 trophies! Now convinced it was just a bad cube iteration and I look forward to future iterations!
I liked the deck so much in this video, I ended up sharing two separate moments from it with my friend; when you tricked the opp. with Coercive Portal, and the T1 smokestack game. Both of those wouldn't have happened in a generically powerful vintage cube.
This is an awesome cube. I also love that I know the vast majority of cards, instead of recent cube iterations where I don't recognise a lot of what's going on
If this episode isn’t a sign that retro cube needs more airtime to mix up the cube vibes, I don’t know what is. Many blessings to your new twins and can’t wait to see the new retro cube draftmancer list in the rotation one day!
this is such an improvement over the regular vintage cube, wow- i liked the idea of this cube but the games play out even better than i would have imagined
Winter Orb and its ilk were "Continuous Artifacts", artifacts that have a global effect that is always on unless the artifact is tapped. Mono Artifacts are the ones that tap to do something (implying once per turn), and Poly Artifacts have activations that don't require tapping.
Winter Orb was originally printed as a “Continuous Artifact”you didn’t need to tap it to have an effect but it the effect shuts off when it’s tapped somehow.
I'm not sure I like this Cube overall but I like having fewer I win cards. Overall I want a Cube with powerful enablers+engines and less I win combos. Caleb Gannon's came close.
I love mono u artifacts ans love the stax - g1 I was praying for the metamorphic + or combo and I was so happy to see it. edit: t1 smokestack is my dream m I love this ggs!
Regarding the Carnage on the Coercive Portal: You said that's not going to happen again. Not that match, no, but that was the 2nd time I have seen that work for you!
Kinnan DOES work with Metalworker by the way, but only if you have at least one artifact in hand to reveal. It didn't work when you tried tapping Metalworker for 0 because Kinnan adds one extra of whatever kind it naturally produced, and with 0 in hand it makes 0. So if you revealed 1 artifact, you'd get 3 mana instead of 2 because of Kinnan; if you revealed 2 you'd get 5 instead of 4, and so on
I was curious at around 34:40 attacking the daretti, if you were going to upheaval wouldn’t it have made more sense to attack the player? Was wondering what was the rationale with the attack towards the planeswalker
This cube is great. I felt some of the normal cube decks devolved into who got the better opening hand (I feel this way about a lot of more recent magic TBH). You still get fun broken stuff like metalworker for 8 though. It also seems like there's more variety in general. The normal cube list has bombs and cards that never see play.
What the heck do you think your opponent thought when they load into a Cube Draft, sees LSV is passing to them, and then the GET THE LOTUS lol. They have to be wondering what you could have opened lol.
What a time was that to be alive. Mono Artifact, Poly Artifact, Continuous Artifact. Why was it that this one card type needed to have not one, not two, but three separate declinations? Only Garfield knows.
The Sol Ring is better in this kind of deck. You wouldn't want to lotus into a mana rock or some draw a few cards spell, and the payoff cards are generally past 4 mana. However, unless you just plan to force this deck or some variant, the lotus should always be the 1.1 pick.
Just wrong, 5-10 years ago it was extremely common cube knowledge that sol ring was the best p1p1, bar none. Most of the impactful cards cost 4 or more mana
no regrets on lotus brainfreeze. i agree with ur choice of sol ring over lotus. ive seen u pick lotus first pick pack 1 twice and lose. 1 of those times u had lotus, 2 moxes and mox diamond. also, u have beaten ppl who had lotus + ancestral
You should adjust your cube to be more like the retro cube, it's so much more fun than the current vintage cube, so much more variety not just a midrange slugfest.
Cube 4-5 years ago, this and storm were the strongest decks imo. (Other than red but low to the ground red aggro isn't possible in retro cube since no Goblin Guide etc). But I never played storm. Its a fun deck to watch, but I don't have enough experience to do it well. So this artifact deck was always my favorite to play.
What do you know when the cube is more about synergy and good decision-making Luis is back to stomping fools. Just goes to show the new cards are taking away from the game we (used to) love.

This honestly feels like a better cube overall.
The lack of broken answer-or-lose-threats is really a blessing. Love this cube list.
Shoutouts to the MVPs of this deck: The enemy Urza and the enemy Retrofitter.
LMAO that "carnage" mindgame at the end was fantastic
Carnage into instant concession.
Absolute cinema!
I had to explain to my kid why I was laughing at my phone. 😂
Gaby was right about coercive portal.

mulldrifter in various retro cube decks is the greatest content there is
T1: Black Lotus, Mulldrifter, win
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊00000
That smokestack game was sick. The original stax.
One of my fav videos in the last couple months, SUPER FUN draft
Happy we got to see the nut smokestack draw… was one of my fav vintage cube decks for awhile and good to see it in action again 😊
This is the cube content I love! I wish you'd use a cube like this on the server drafts, but IDK if its what everyone prefers to play.
Big same!
I’d love if retro or old order cubes got more play in the divination
Passive effect artifacts were Continuous Artifacts back then.
The nostaligia in these retro cubes have been 10/10 i would NOT mind more of these
This is an awesome cube. I also love that I know the vast majority of cards, instead of recent cube iterations where I don't recognise a lot of what's going on

I am really enjoying seeing consecrated sphinx back on top
this is such an improvement over the regular vintage cube, wow- i liked the idea of this cube but the games play out even better than i would have imagined
That shamequit on coercive portal was gold
The most excited i have been in your videos in weeks xD was to see if tangle wire came back..
I was very much looking forward to it wheeling too. So sad, not to be today.
“Hangerback Walker Texas Ranger” 😂
I don’t frequently comment but I just have to say how much I’m loving the classic vintage cube videos!
This is the sweetest Academy deck I've seen in a while.
Smokestack is the card i most miss of the old ones in the cube, so much fun playing with it
Love this draft. There was a near perfect storm deck in here as well with that pack one

16:35 Continuous Artifact
52:30 I love the fact that Coercive Portal is one of the few cards that get much better online, cos of stuff like that 😂
I’ve been really enjoying this cube!
This is exactly the kind of deck I've missed for all the years since the cube pivoted away from this kind of thing!
You know. I'm 38 seconds in and I gotta be honest, you know how absolutely insane it must feel to get passed a lotus
That player must have thought LSV's connection went down.
carnage! this video saved my life. thank you LSV!
Winter Orb was originally printed as a “Continuous Artifact”you didn’t need to tap it to have an effect but it the effect shuts off when it’s tapped somehow.
Loved this deck and video!
He can't keep getting away with that portal play!
M2g2 was sweet. It brings back all the glorious memories.
stacks, remember when mtg players embraced their sadist and massochist sides... i approve :)
and hail to 90s magic
I'm not sure I like this Cube overall but I like having fewer I win cards. Overall I want a Cube with powerful enablers+engines and less I win combos. Caleb Gannon's came close.
I'm looking forward to your own retro cube! Retro except for Noise Marine, that is.
The carnage click was the best
I love mono u artifacts ans love the stax - g1 I was praying for the metamorphic + or combo and I was so happy to see it.
edit: t1 smokestack is my dream m I love this
ggs!
You were right the first time LSV. It was Mono Artifact
LSV is once again playing EDH at this point. Sol Ring, Sphinx, Winter Orb
Regarding the Carnage on the Coercive Portal: You said that's not going to happen again. Not that match, no, but that was the 2nd time I have seen that work for you!
Before watching the games this deck looks like a dream...
I have been enjoying the cube power level where consecrated sphinx is playable again!
Few people can get as giddy as LSV over smokestack retrofitter battles
Kinnan DOES work with Metalworker by the way, but only if you have at least one artifact in hand to reveal. It was definitely an error hah
Excited for this smoke stack. Gonna be a fun one.
Oh yeah… that was a sick smokestack game. Copy opponent retrofitter too, heck yes. Blast from the past right there. Made my day.
Is there any rhyme or reason to the inconsistent Signet frames?
will you do a foundations cube?
On my phone it looks like you got that Zorg haircut from the movie 5th element lol
This cube is great. I felt some of the normal cube decks devolved into who got the better opening hand (I feel this way about a lot of more recent magic TBH). You still get fun broken stuff like metalworker for 8 though.

Where can I find this cube list?
What the heck do you think your opponent thought when they load into a Cube Draft, sees LSV is passing to them, and then the GET THE LOTUS lol. They have to be wondering what you could have opened lol.
Is there a list for this cube?
Upheaval with all this mana...has a sol ring and one signet plus a mana drain if timed perfectly...what mana?
LSV getting his pick order from Stephen smith
You all should put this cube list in your draft server it might be crazy team games
16:42 if I remember it was continuos artifact
16:19 The term was "Continuous Artifact".
What a time was that to be alive. Mono Artifact, Poly Artifact, Continuous Artifact. Why was it that this one card type needed to have not one, not two, but three separate declinations? Only Garfield knows.

lsv will you sign my birds of paradise
Screw that, I want him to sign my Bible.
See? You open power and you pass it, no more complaining😂
Brown town? Retro cube is the best!
16:40 Continuous Artifact.
Casually cast 18 mana worth of spells on turn 4, no big deal.
I loved when he had the option to not use Ancient Tomb when hard casting the Portal to Phyrexia.
maybe black lotus will wheel?
no regrets on lotus brainfreeze. i agree with ur choice of sol ring over lotus. ive seen u pick lotus first pick pack 1 twice and lose. 1 of those times u had lotus, 2 moxes and mox diamond. also, u have beaten ppl who had lotus + ancestral
love it
this is the cube deck from 20 years ago
What a game 1
You should adjust your cube to be more like the retro cube, it's so much more fun than the current vintage cube, so much more variety not just a midrange slugfest.
Hot take on the first pick but I agree.
...Did he really just first pick Sol Ring over Black Lotus, or do my eyes deceive me...
That vamp and play a Yawghmoth knowing an Upheaval is coming was really something.
Yeah, let's pay 2 life and cast a completely useless spell.
Bizarre
The instant regret
*squints at face cam on my cell phone
New hair cut? Stylish
Carnage value

These drafts are almost unwatchable without the sorting.
Going to give myself an aneurysm. Can't stop screaming out loud "and then HeEeEEeEre."
LSV, what's up with that hair...?
What do you know when the cube is more about synergy and good decision-making Luis is back to stomping fools. Just goes to show the new cards are taking away from the game we (used to) love.
I really miss the team/more modern cube, this retro one really is really not for me xD
poly artifact
Continuous artifact actually
MTGA is broken every 2nd update so I guess it could be worse
I think i kinda prefer this cube to the commander cards
.
P1P1 was wrong. Absolutely unacceptable.
