How This A 1890 Victorian Townhouse Brimming With New Character For Modern Lifestyle

- In Brooklyn's Park Slope, architects Christopher Lee and Minyoung Song from Model Practice, alongside designers Amanda Jesse and Whitney Parris-Lamb of Jesse Parris-Lamb, revived a circa 1890 townhouse. Their discovery of an incomplete Victorian-era ceramic speaking tube underscored the home's distinctive historical charm.
Introducing modern elements while preserving the Brooklyn brownstone's original structure was a challenge. "We played with the tension between old and new, rough and refined," says Lee. An example is the restored 1940s crystal chandelier left by the previous owners. Unexpected choices led to a unique interior featuring skylights in bathrooms and a drooping ceiling in the powder room, creating a blend of simplicity and quirky moments.
