I stood on the head of the big Buddha statue in 1971 and got there through a hidden underground passage that ended right behind his head. He also sings in Band i Amir where I spent a wonderful time, the only guest in the only guesthouse. The afghans were catching fish by shooting them with rifles. It was the roof of the world and wonderfully calm.

When you could walk around Kabul in complete safety and enjoy the different and interesting people in the bazaar. When you could rejoice with the afghan youths that ilfe became better every year.
