It's not an either/or. Indigenous people AND Black people are due a debt from the governments that sanctioned & profited from their brutalization. We should fight together for all debts to be paid.

Reparations should be investing the money into the black communities that are struggling. Better/safer schools, better teachers, low interest rate on mortgages and business loans, make the neighborhoods cleaner and nicer for the residents not for gentrification, etc.

How can you consider reparations for black communities solely? What about Native Americans losing out their entire civilisations and land. Mexico losing out huge swaths of land including Texas. What about the UK who spent billions (in todays money) defending its colony which revolted. South and North Korea? Iraq? Libya and Syria? Where do we draw this line? What a ridiculous sentiment.

Maybe they should pay themselves reparations. The first recorded slave owner in the United States was a former indentured servant by the name of Anthony Johnson. He was a black man from Angola. The year was 1655. Mr. Johnson owned 500 acres in Virginia and was a wealthy tobacco farmer. There were thousands of black slaveholders in the country, north and south. According to the U.S. Census of 1830 there were 3,775 black slaveholders in the South who owned 12,740 slaves, with 80 percent of them located in Louisiana, South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. In addition there were black “masters” in every state where slavery existed.
The largest slave owner in South Carolina was William Ellison, a black plantation owner. He owned over 1,000 acres and held over 60 slaves.

While yes this may be true, but this doesn’t make up for the millions of white people in American owning slaves, and living life unbothered while black Americans suffered under Jim Crow laws and discrimination for years.

Slavery was a legal thing back then...It's not today but it was back then. You can't fight something like this in courts today because in order to have an argument in a court of law, you have to prove that something was done that was not legal in the law of the land...And since there is no one even alive from that period in time, there isn't really even a plaintiff to fight it.
I agree that systemic racism is a real thing and although it's not as prevalent in our society as some people make it out to be, it does still exist and we should fight that. However, slavery is not the same thing.
You do know the enslavement of black people in America begin in 1619 what you presented maybe a fact but slaves were owned here by Europeans will before this man began his ownership of slaves
@@vashawnjr I believe it started even earlier than that but it wasn't legal back then to own slaves in the US.
Slavery isn't a new concept, it existed throughout civilization for thousands of years. But if we are just talking about the US, the first colony to have adopted slavery as a legal law was Massachusetts in 1641. Before that, it was not legal in the US period. And it was cases like Antonio Johnsons that created a precedent for other colonies to follow in legal settings. He very much lived throughout the period where it went from an illegal act to being legalized in much of the country.

You can't pay reparations to descendants of slaves before paying native Americans for the land that was stolen in the first place. But before any of that can take place reparations must be paid to the descendants of the people that came here as indentured servants.

Afro Native here and the established Tribes have been paid, unfortunately. Modern day doesn’t account for the descendants not counted on census, which falls on tribes. The treaties need to be re-examined and the land needs to be incorporated or returned.

The enactments defining slavery werent established until late 1600's to early 1700. American slavery made a drastic change from servitude to slavery. Extending the term of service from limited to perpetual service (one entitre natural life). What we come to know as american chattle slavery. So African nations and tribes arent responsible, it was the US that used legalisse and flawed legislation to establishe the institution of slavery, it developed over a course of decades.

Ive personally been jipped that much on jobs literally.. white person.. same position.. made 12k more than me and wasn't half as good in the position... literally... when i left they hired 2 people to replace me. The reason most of these jobs don't want you talking salary with people is because most of the time we are being grossly underpaid for the position. I got to talking to people at the job.. One guy literally asked me HOW DO YOU LIVE ON THAT??? They can't even fathom working for the pittance we do.

You do realize that this money does not come out of thin air? What you are proposing would come to 6.3 trillion dollars over 12 years which would increase taxes on non-black citizens by 12.3% on average which would inevitable increase the number of people in poverty from 27.5 million to 43.7 million (no that does not include the black population). Is this something you would be o.k. with?
