My dad gave me this early 90s… I just randomly thought of it… described it on google and found a picture of it…. I’m tearing 🥹 up with laughter. I can’t believe I’m able to hear these again. I love the internet
I bought one from Savers for $10 and it works perfectly. One thing kinda funny is that the person who donated it bought it from a store that closed ~15 years ago for $130.
Great review and fun! I'm subbing just because someone gave you shite about your definition of "vintage". I defiantly look back fondly on some of these old "Home Entertainmentment" or "amateur" keyboards and think some of them are freaking awesome and worth preserving and making music with. Cool channel and nice reviews!
Thanks for the video! It makes no sense, but the PSR-2 isn't the first PSR, actually. The first one is, if I'm not mistaken, either the PSR-50 or the PSR-60! Before that, the first Yamaha keyboard with a sort of arranger concept was the PS-6100, in 1984. In all honesty, I never quite understood the meaning behind the order of model numbers (example: PSS-390 came after PSS-480, 580, 470, 570, etc). The same happens to other brands' keyboards (example from Casio: MT-240 was released way after the MT-400v).
@@gearfacts I still have my PSR-200, bought by my parents when I was 7. Now my daughter (3) is playing around with it. This stuff seems to last for ages.
bought one of these for $10 an hour ago via a seller on Facebook Marketplace ... is in OK shape and looks, will surely look much better after a proper cleanup! a couple of keys (A#1 and G4) don't make any sound but i'm sure they can be repaired easily (fingers crossed!) and it's always on! ie, when the slider switch is moved to POWER OFF it remains on no matter what ... not much of a problem and probably repairable ... battery compartment lid missing and inside is quite dirty but probably cleanable ... good purchase considering the very low price anyway! :-)
This one’s from 1990. The first PSR was the PSR-15 from 1984. Check this: www.keysound.co.uk/FAQ/Find-out-the-age-of-your-Yamaha-Keyboard-or-Organ-or-Digital-Piano/5
i’m looking for the best portasound... i have the casiotone mt-65 which i think has the best sound card and really expands the most of what you can do on that card, but i’m not sure about the portal sounds.. i’m not into the FM of the DX7 some of the sounds on this have a nice warmth i like it.
There are so many to choose from... If you like the PSR-2 Then I'd recommend looking at the PSR-7 as it expands on all the same concepts. When you get into the three-digit PSR models you might find the sounds become more "PCM" :) #gearfacts
@@gearfacts Strange thing is older keybs are getting more popular with time, as much else, - they are getting tweaked and the Casio VL1 known for its many features, still popular among "circuit benders" - and many old synths are coming back for their "vintage" sounds and for the analog "feeling" with warmer sounds etc, and they dont have to cost you an arm and a leg! - as the modern Moogs and alike - ok, have a good one! Gearfacts: Well in my opinion, a 'vintage' keyboard or sythn is one that was remembered as being a trend setter..one that the world of music will always remember as being incredibly awesome!..as with the Casio SK-1, Yamaha PSR-500, & Roland G-70..
Gearfacts: That Yamaha PSR-2 wasn't even worth the time reviewing it..it's one of those instruments that Yamaha released just to keep up with their competitors..something to satisfy a non-musician who just wants something to toy around with @ home..
My parents still have this. It was bought for us when we were toddlers. I’m now 31.
The strings on this are actually great, I got one from my great-grandmother and it can do those 80s synth strings very well.
Effect 49 you mean? You will be able to play only 4 keys maximum...more than that doesn't play...
ALL YOUR VIDEO'S ARE INTERESTING... THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME MORE MOTIVATION DAILY
It's my pleasure man, thanks for that feedback. Made my day :) GF

I’ll be 35 in march
I'm nearly 50, I remember my high school getting a bunch of them for the music room, must have been about 1989.
Another cool find ! And great review ! Another to add to my list !
Ty for video i just got this keyboard as gift

Sounds like that guy paid a bit too much! But for $10 - bargain :)
@@gearfacts well by early '80s standards, this keyboard was pretty good and well worth the $130 at the time
This is definitely a childhood keyboard to me I enjoyed it 😎🤩😎

This model was my first keyboard I owned.

Yeah, but the MT-240 is from the late 80's or early 90's
This is the 49 key version of the PSR-18 from 1990. I have a PSR-18 that belonged to my late maternal Grandparents.
PSR-2 is only a smaller number from 1990. ! First was PSR-15 from 1984. 6 years older !
Damn, we've come a long way.
haha indeed. How did we tolerate this?!

Actually yes I think someone else pointed this out, so I may have been wrong there. :/ GF
Just picked up a JDM version of this for $14.99 and my local thrift. LESSGOO!!
Fun!
The voice won’t change on mine
Make sure you press enter after selecting the voice
Yes I have the same problem on mine. Might be water damage/dust? I’m thinking about taking mine apart to see what I can do..
how do i reset my keyboard because i was playing with the numbers and it doesn’t sound normal anymore
I think you switch it on while holding the uppermost white key. Or two keys. I'm not sure, it was a long time ago. Might be on the net.
I still have mine and now my son uses it. But the music stand is broken and I lost the battery cover. Other than that, it still works perfectly.
Yep they last forever ...I've seen some in shocking condition that still play alright
This thing kicked ass hahaha, Venus Demo Button all the fucking way

My first keyboard!
I don't think so (unless anyone else know a way of doing it?)
did NOT realize the keyboard i used to make funni memes was a piece of history
yup :) /GF
what keyboard you use now
My mums friends giving me this for free she’s so kind.
Kind ppl are awesome, they make all the difference!
Gearfacts yup
How to return the sound to the orginal one after changing it?
I think it's 0,0,ENTER
Is there any way i can make these sound more like a real piano?
No, not even close :( Gearfacts
@@gearfacts can i use keyscape with this keyboard?
Does anyone know what is the difference between psr-2 and psr-3 models?
Just some colours on the buttons, there's no practical difference.
thank you!@@gearfacts
Is it a big version of PSS-50 or PSS-190?
Very similar, yes.
Can you do a review of a casio lk 30
I'm sure I will one day :) #Gearfacts
I have the psr very first one before this one
Casio is still trying to compete with this one

you cant play different buttons at same time
You can't ?
Yes you can, you’re probably in chord mode. The big blue buttons in the middle, hit the right side one
there's absolutely NOTHING 'vintage' about this crappy keyboard doc!
