This brings to the next question, will Zepto survive this onslaught or simply get acquired by one of the biggies as this space is already crowded and a consolidation is due.

Alok Das sir bang on. No body thought about Delivery boys. Even Dark store is in 3.5 km of range still for delivering goods in 10 minutes, Delivery boy have to ride fast bike. Which may cause some serious accident and if for any reason delivery boy unable to follow standard they have to face salary cut. In short by lowing delivery time they promote rash driving.
Zepto is already in the verge of getting Acquired by big basket , their USP is no longer an advantage . Yes totally correct. Before my first priority for online shopping was only Flipkart (among Amazon and Flipkart) because of negligible no no tax paid by Amazon (USA) and it's toxic market aquisition practice. But some of my Flipkart orders (SMPS & whey protein) delivered were not authentic. So, now i compare all the available options and then place an order (mainly on Amazon, also because of discounts offered and ofcourse genuine quality).
Being an ardent online shopper, the first thing as a consumer I look for is the availability and the variety of products an aggregator can provide, second comes the discount/offers and the best available price, and then comes the delivery time, 10 minutes delivery is cool, but that's the last thing that would attract me.
I never move away of grofers. Grofers now BlinkIt started delivering in less than 10 minutes and sent covid kit during covid phase 1 and still send gifts time to time with nice packaging and delivering all night in my city.

10 minutes or less delivery becomes a USP only under a crisis situation. Indian customers are more attracted to discounts and less pricing than a fast delivery. So, big players like bigbasket and blinkit can slay off zepto probably in next 2-3 quarters.

Boss, as I am ex big basketer. I can tell you ....whatever zepto strategy doesn't work much longer.....These all strategies (Dark stores, Hyperlocal)are already tried & tested by Big basket in past. Big basket now has good infrastructure, which can tap maximum share of grocery.....
10 minute delivery is the last thing that I look for, availability of products and discount is what I see. Very unfortunately zepto fails in both of them, it doesn’t have range of products and prices are also high compared to swingy, big basket, flip kart and grofers.

Always prefer local Grocery .. We are ecosystem and local seller's earning depends on us. By buying locally we are helping each other. Even I do my mobile recharge from local shop and pay them ONLINE. So that I restrict myself to put all money in big firms pocket directly. Buy things online only in case of unavailability or unique product.
Grofers Dunzo Swiggy and Ola also started this in Bangalore And there pocket is more deep than Zepto So, basically it's gonna be difficult for Zepto. let's see in future.

I think grofers is leading currently and will be leading for a long time they deliver fast and at the cheapest rate. Atleast in my area I have never seen someone order grocery from anyone other than grofers it's pretty popular.
Flipkart grocery is also very good.. There they sell 3-4 product of 1 rs each( cashews, tea, etc.) but you need to buy at least 1200/- of grocery..( you can't add more than 1 quantity of 1 rs product😃) Quality and packaging is very good.. They give extra discount on some fix amount of money spent

Zepto is on path of Dominoes. Not a sustainable proposition and business model. Delivering in 10 minutes and building a network of shadow stores is a sureshot recipe for investor money going the drain.

I don't quite understand what investors see in this model. At the end of the day, your profits on goods sold will not be much different from the local mom & pop stores and you need to adjust cost of delivery within this. Indians will only pay for convenience as long as it is for free. For each delivery, if you begin subtracting the price of delivery, cost of goods, cost of maintaining technical infrastructure, cost of salaries, cost of marketing, discounts, taxes etc., it beats me what investors see will be left. (Not to forget the huge pressure the delivery boys face with such a short delivery time, the abyssmal pay they receive and the inhuman conditions in which they work.)

Most important thing in grocery buisness is basket size and zepto has very low basket size while customers from bigbasket,dmart,grofers have average basket size of rs 1200 to 2000 from what I hear zepto's basket size is 200-300 which increases cash burn and reduce profit Let's say if i buy products worth rs 1000 in which company get 120 as profit 35 rs will go to delivery person 10 to packer 25 operations cost the remain profits will be 50₹ But if customer buy from zepto product worth rs 300₹ margin let's assume 15% which is 45 delivery charge 25 operations cost 10 packing 10 what will company get 0₹ And if i want to buy whole month ration which is around 3-4k i don't want that in 10 min i can wait for a day.

They can't scale because even if they get larger dark stores, they will have to at least quadruple their delivery boys, and same for their pickers, packers and baggers. Can't scale it if there aren't as many people available to become delivery boys.
I used this all today and it left me speechless. It takes me 25-30 mins to get stuff myself. It actually got delivered in 8 mins.

Thats when quantity comes in play. They don't sell the amount that mom and pops stores sell. They profit from the quantity of orders.

I always use big basket. Zepto is expensive if u are buying monthly grocery and not all are available. Many things are not available when required.

Most important thing in grocery buisness is basket size and zepto has very low basket size while customers from bigbasket,dmart,grofers have average basket size of rs 1200 to 2000 from what I hear zepto's basket size is 200-300 which increases cash burn and reduce profit
Let's say if i buy products worth rs 1000 in which company get 120 as profit 35 rs will go to delivery person 10 to packer 25 operations cost the remain profits will be 50₹
But if customer buy from zepto product worth rs 300₹ margin let's assume 15% which is 45 delivery charge 25 operations cost 10 packing 10 what will company get 0₹
And if i want to buy whole month ration which is around 3-4k i don't want that in 10 min i can wait for a day.

This seems to be a very high risk investment strategy. How is the company planning to scale this model? If you don't scale how are they planning to grow?
They can't scale because even if they get larger dark stores, they will have to at least quadruple their delivery boys, and same for their pickers, packers and baggers. Can't scale it if there aren't as many people available to become delivery boys.
