    THIS talk is what brought me back to the true Church of Jesus Christ... I was a "prodigal son" for over 20 years. Our Savior never gave up on me, and I knew I couldn't either.

      I was a prodigal for 8 years as well, and I can humbly testify the Good Shepherd finds us and gently leads us back; walking on thorns to return to the straight and clear road will ALWAYS be worth it!
      In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

    @10:54 "It is not possible for you to sink lower than the infinite light of Christ's atoning sacrifice shines." Amen. Prodigal in some intensity for roughly 25 years, and we're having the missionaries over for dinner this Saturday. What a wonderful talk. I'm eager be back on the Covenant Path and worthy of my Priesthood again.

      Congratulations on choosing to get back on the covenant path! You are a great example to me and many others, that hope is never lost if we choose to come into the Loving arms of our Savior Jesus Christ! I too walked away from my Savior for a time, & of course still sin, but I won't ever abandon him again.
      God bless you!

    This morning I woke up to the realization that I am to teach the deacon’s quorum lesson. I was feeling uninspired after one of the busiest weeks of my life. How would I relate temple work for the dead to these young men so full of life? In the middle of this talk, I came to realize that temple work is the celebration at the end of every prodigal’s return. Thank you.

    To come back to the Father, having to face his own poor choices, obviously takes a lot of humility. Extending a hand and making a place for a person who has come all the way back is Christlike. God denies none who come to him. So do Gods disciples.
    I ache for those who make the courageous and humble effort to show up but may not find a welcoming hand of friendship to steady them on their journey back. I am so grateful for those who join the rescue wagons and run to the aid of those on the journey back. I am so grateful for those who see the person coming a far off and run to embrace and receive them. I feel like they truly know the Master because the love they have for Him is the love they have for His sheep.❤

    • @choosehigherground
      @choosehigherground Рік тому +2

      It is a sorrowful thought indeed to think of those who mustered enough humility to face certain accountability, but were unlovingly received and even rejected.
      The best thing we can do is to be the example of loving embrace to all the members around us who may be tempted to act as the older brother.

    • @choosehigherground
      @choosehigherground Рік тому +2

      I believe the first presidency is chosen by the prophet each time. Just as a bishop can choose his own counselors.
      This isn’t a matter of seniority or who’s the best speaker, but rather who is needed for the times in which we face. Consider the promptings President Nelson must have received when he prayerfully considered his counselors. President Oaks has a wide scope of legal judicial background that must surely be of importance navigating laws that directly oppose the laws of God. Consider the legal storm that comes from diminished societal morals. Surely the apostles chosen are exactly who the Lord needs in assisting the prophet in his calling to fulfill the purposes of the Lord.

      People are called by God to the positions they hold in the church not by vote or even by the president of the church. God knows who is needed in any particular calling. And every calling is necessary. The calling of president of the church is just as important as the calling of nursery worker.

    There is so much more to this parable than I think people realize. Most parables are metaphors for something else that goes beyond the story. True that it is a story that exemplifies those who are lost to their Heavenly Father are never truly lost should they only choose to return to Him and He will accept back with open arms unconcerned about past deeds or choices. But as a metaphor who do the three main characters of this story represent? It is obvious that the rich land owner Father must represent our Father in Heaven. But what about the younger wayword son? Is he only the representative of all who sin? What about the older son? This one is perhaps more difficult to determine. His reaction was the complete opposite of his father's. Also the parable doesn't say what happens after his father tries to explain his actions towards the returning younger brother. Did he feel comforted by the fact that all that his father has is his or did he still stay bitter and have resentment towards his younger brother? If one could answer this question who is the older brother in this parable and what ultimately did he choose then the identity of the younger brother become more clear.

      It 100% can.
      The question then becomes, will you forgive your spouse when they return, or will you be like the older brother and harbor resentment (however justifiably it may be)?
      Choose to forgive. Choose to show mercy. Don’t hold the past over their heads when they are ready to come home.

      Quoth the prodigal son before he found himself. Life is a constant reminder that very, very little is within our control, which is a tender mercy from God - because we are truly capable of controlling very little. But in the end, through our Father's Plan, we will find our happiness according to our desires. I would suggest listening to President Nelson's concluding talk from this conference for details. Think celestial!

      Hi,
      I'm sorry you had to go through that. This parable helps me to remember that despite the frustratingly unfair things that happen in mortality, our Father in Heaven loves us so very much! He has a much better plan for us than we can comprehend! While our earthly friends, parents, and people we think we can trust, can treat us with ill will, God never will. The difficulties we go through are learning experiences that he allows to happen, so that we can learn and choose to trust in him. God is the true Father in the parable of the prodigal son.
      God bless you always!
