Beautiful plants. They all look the same from a distance. Crazy how much variety of life there is in a simple desert valley. Wish I was back out west! Stuck in PA. Thanks for the knowledge!!!

Thanks, me too. I am going to Anza-Borrego Desert in April to see what they look like in bloom. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching.

If the creosote bush is so hardy, WHY is there not one single creosote bush to be found in Santa Cruz County, Arizona?

Hmmmmm......dunno? Maybe they peter out as you get through Yuma?

Great video, thank you. If you read this, maybe you can answer my question. I love to learn to identify plants but most of the field guides available focus on annual wildflowers. I really want to learn more of the perennial shrubs. I cannot find any guide books that show quality photos and detailed descriptions. Can you recommend any sources for the field?

Great question, really, really hard to find any field guides for plants unless they are evergreen and/or flowering; and plants are super localized. Pretty much, during summer, most of our native plants (at least California) look like a bunch of sticks. You can download a phone app program (like "snapplant" or "google lens.") I like to purchase little folding field guides from local State and Federal Parks - such as the Anza-Borrego Foundation www.shop.theabf.org/products/trees-shrubs-cacti-of-abdsp - so at least I can narrow down plant options. Otherwise, you learn the plants while they are green or blooming, then return to the same spot when they are dormant.

@@battlefoxx Thanks for replying and thanks for the tips. With all the rain the perennials are getting foliage and flowers. I'll try to identify as many as I can then make mental notes and photos as well. I will try the phone apps you mentioned.
