Dear Major Gaurav, I was delighted and enlightened by your visit to the Indian Naval Academy. I just wished to share an interesting incident prior to the starting of the Naval academy. In 1995, Admiral Shekhawat had come to Chennai. Their original plan was to start the Naval academy on the East Coast, near Pudukottai in Tamilnadu. Pudukottai is 250 miles from Chennai and 30 miles from Tiruchirapalli International airport. He had got an appointment with the then Chief minister Mr.M G Ramachandran.
But after arriving in Chennai, MGR kept him waiting for 3 days. That is when Mr Karunakaran, the Chief Minister of Kerala got to know of it. And Mr Karunakaran, telephoned to the Admiral and requested him to come over to Kerala, specifically Cochin. Mr Karunakaran sent his personal Mercedes Benz for the Admiral, . And gave him all the land that the Navy wanted. That's how the academy went to Kerala instead of Tamilnadu. Diljit Shah
K karunakaran was an one of the finest and very keen development ministers in kerala... His under cochin airport and the cochin international stadiums all this things have been implemented.. 👍
