  • Masterclass I.5 - Basic Micro & Unit Positioning
In this video, we review two things. How to Attack Move and what the basic positioning of your units should be. Due to the difficulty of getting the AI to put together the semblance of an army, I opted to review examples from real games. You do not at all need high APM to do what was done in the videos.
This channel focuses in AoE4 1v1, from Bronze to Conqueror. Particular emphasis is placed on learning about the game and helping new players ease their way into the multiplayer scene.

These videos are very helpful, the first person gameplay actually helps me learn, and I haven’t been able to find much first person content on the game, thank you for these and would love some more

Glad to hear it! Check out Demuslim or Beastyqt, they upload a lot of 1st person material.

I neglected attack move and didn’t see any need for it, now I realised why my troops can be wacky in combat

Total war needs an attack move. Microing 40 odd formations is ridiculous

True what others have said - This Four-Part Masterclass Series has been nicely done - Short, yet informative. Love how you broke up each class into short videos.
I am not new to RTS (play a ton of COH) but new to the Age of Empires series. I simply hope that what I am seeing as a click-happy game is not so intense as constantly slapping the mouse or keyboard. And, hoping for less than COH, which isn't too bad.

So for the A-Move i would say it would almost be easier to explain it in Ms Paint.
You select your army and you send it to a certain location. If they don't encounter anyone. They just walk there.
If they do encounter the enemy they will automatically engage. Try and destroy whatever it ran into and carry on to the original destination unless it finds more targets.
Might also be good to explain the difference of a-moving in front of a location or behind a base for example. More important for scholar play offcourse cause they will just walk on without a care in the world. Anyhow good vid :)

I will try to do some MSpaint action. I also will try to discuss more of the nitty details you bring up, you're right they need attention. I think I'll be dividing future masterclass up, grouping them by the level of advancement (i.e. beginner, intermediate, etc.)

I’d also say that the little technique Beasty (yes him again) shows Wamen in his coaching series is a good one to note. Microing your longbows (ranged units) around your “A”-moved melee frontline will help protect the backline.

So the best way to spread the focus of your units its using attack move, so you avoid the mass targting on one unit and avoid overkilling, right?
Btw is there any way to configure attack move to just use the key abd not needing the extra left click before to confurm the attack move command? So if i press A it just targets the ground im hovering with my mouse in that moment, will be amazing in terms of action economy and confort tbh,, the same way u can do in in lol for example

Thanks a lot for this series! Maybe you could make a video also on military formations. Are they useful? If I'm not wrong, your archers in this video are in line formation

The line formation is definitely useful for archers, the rest of it is more situational but can still be effective. I'd have to sit down and study.
