The coolest thing when you were a kid was the guy getting shot on the building then he rolled down the roof...he must have been pretty sore after doing that day in and out
Having grown up in Orlando, I remember going to many, MANY of the parks you have done videos on (Six Gun, Mystery Fun House, Wet N Wild, River Country, Water Mania, etc). On the one hand, it makes me smile about the nostalgia of seeing the parks when they were open, and it also is kind of sad to know that none of them are ever coming back.
Thank you SO much for this! I grew up going to Six Gun and absolutely loved it!! Many fond memories of that place, and its so nice to see video. The closest I can get to this now is Tweetsie Railroad in NC. However they don't have the shootouts. I really miss Six Gun Territory.
My family took us there around 1965 and my father got lots of video. He died fifty years ago in 1969 and those old home videos he shot mean more than we would ever know. I transferred reels & reels of video to various media over the years as technology advanced (VHS, then to DVD and now in permanent archive online). SGT might seem hokey to people today but as a young boy this was the most fun I ever had. Back then cowboys and Indians may have been on it's way out but many still loved it's adventure. Long live the memories of Six Gun Territory.
Thanks for this video. My parents and I went here during Memorial day weekend 1976 then driving back to our home in North Carolina. My mom got sick and entered the hospital in late June. She died that September. It was our last vacation together. She just loved the place as she was a big fan of westerns.
I'm pleased to say that I got to travel around Florida before 1971 and experienced Six Gun, Cypress Gardens, Weeki Wachi, Silver Springs, and assorted gator attractions. "The Attraction that Ate Central Florida" was a mixed blessing for these heretofore profitable spots. In the beginning, they felt that WDW would draw more tourists to the area and therefore increase the numbers of their potential attendance; it didn't work out that way. :( You did a terrific job on this video!
Only went once with my father sister and two brothers in the late 60s. Grandparents ran the Florida Alligator Farm in Callahan. What a great time to grow up!
Thanks so much for this video, Sam (I’m slowly working my way through your videos and they’re all fantastic and I can tell how much time and passion you put into them)! I actually live about 7 miles from where the park used to be and our favorite to-go Chinese place is in Six Guns Plaza! We want to attend the Six Guns annual festival sometime!!
You make wonderful documentaries. I was not familiar with Six Gun Theme Park.I went to Ghost Town In The Sky, and yes, I saw the similarities. It was enjoyable to see this because I have good memories of Maggie Valley Ghost Town.
I spent a lot of time here and Silver Springs as a kid. I’ve been to both countless times and had a silver springs pass because we went every weekend...Wish I could take my kids
I was lucky enough to have met Dan Blocker and shake his hand, he was the nicest guy, I was 5 years old. Such an awesome memory, Florida had some great theme parks in the 60's.
I love your videos. I spent a lot of my childhood at the Santa Clara Great America, and it gives me immense pleasure to know that the red locomotive is still around, in any kind of condition. Those trains were a staple of any visit - we *always* made at least one circuit every time.
Six Gun Territory and Silver springs along with Marineland was great memories. One place that disappeared was called Marco Polo Park was also in Central Florida.
Thank for for going down memory lane...I grew up here My Father Ted Moore and our family were the first family to bring our Native American dances to this area.
I love not far from there and went there as a kid - when they tore it down they had buildings on the property behind the plaza they built on the property - long gone now, sad really - one of the trains is still in operation at Kirby Farms in Williston Florida
I enjoy these videos about non-Disney Florida theme parks and attractions, most of which I never even knew existed until after watching the videos. It's a shame I never got to visit the ones that aren't around anymore.
Enjoyed the trip down memory lane. I still have a couple of pictures stored away somewhere from around 1976 when I was 4 and my parents took me. In one of those, I’m standing by the train crying because I was scared it was going to run me over! Another pic of the Can Can girls and one is of me at home wearing my Six Gun t-shirt. Wish I could take my kids to share in the memories.
We stopped here on the way back from Disney World in 1976. They had cool miniature rides for smaller kids. Very unique amusement park. Glad I got to go there before they tore it down. Great memories.
I literally grew up around the corner from the strip mall that now sits where the park was back in the day. Kinda crazy seeing my hometown featured in this video.
I love your content. Your videos are thorough enough to be distinct and they're very entertaining. Have you considered making a video on Hunt's Pier in New Jersey? I think you'll find its story very interesting.
There was another park similar to this in the early 70's near KY Lake & Draffenville, Ky called "Kaintuck Territory" It had a chairlift ride, old western town-gunfights and a steam train. My parents took us there once to see George Jones, of course he didn't show....it probably closed by the mid 70's.
I was there as a kid in 1962, and have never forgotten it. One thing not mentioned is that there was a full-size Morrison's cafeteria providing rounded meals, unlike most attractions of the era. I still find this amazing.
I dont either but back then cafeterias were nice places to dine, especially Morrison’s--as a kid it was so much fun to actually see what you were getting..lol!
This makes me wish western movies were still a thing. I loved them growing up. I might have to try and schedule some time to go checkout the rebirth of this little place.
The Kirby Family Farm is still doing the Six Gun weekends, and they now have two of the original locomotives (in the video it shows #19 which was originally from California's Great America hence the "Great America Railway") plus two locomotives from Opryland. The Six Gun locomotives don't run at the moment, though doing so is one of the projects on the list
Wow awesome video again. I thought I knew about all of the theme parks here in Florida, even the more obscure ones, but was total unfamiliar with this one. That's really cool that they get together for reunions now. I'll have to see if I can check it out this year.
Another Great Expedition! Without your story telling - I would have never known of these fascinating parks existence. Suggestion how about an Expedition to "Old Chicago" that once stood in Bolingbrook, Il ?
Wow you do such an amazing job on these videos. I live not to far from that train ride in Jefferson Tx. It’s on my list of things to do. To bad this place closed down. Thanks for another great video.
I remember the day they set fire to it to demolish the buildings. A lot of smoke for days. The blessed trinity church had their carnivals there as well. Remember being there late at night riding the rides. The car ride on tracks that seemed to take you far out near the woods was the scariest by far. It was quiet when you were out there and it was so dark too. Good times !
My dad and I were just talking about this place and he said he got to meet the cast of Yancy Derringer there. He said the stunt men always put on a good show.
Reminds me of an old 1960s Wild West theme park in South Florida called Pioneer City that was very very similar in layout to this one, including a train and a working riverboat. The opening of Disney in 71 plus the very rural location killed this park too. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_City
Wow Now I remember visiting this place as a kid. WOW, MEMORIES. I still even have one of those fake newspapers that lists your name in a fake headline! That was from, oh 1965 or so. it sure looks like Disney killed a lot of smaller parks in FL for sure. Over winter 2017-2018 we stayed in Ocala, and shopped at the Six Gun Plaza. At the time, after all those years, I didn't realize it was on the same ground I'd walked as a child, and when I realized it USED to be Six Gun Territory, well, I was a little saddened.....oh the memories.
BTW when i was a kid i lived in Hampshire and we went on a caravan holiday in the isle of wight one year and I always remember going to a park there called blackgang chine, Sam have you ever been? I just looked it up on google it is the oldest amusement park in the UK.
I actually have been once, when i was around 5 i think i was. The only thing i remember from the trip was dinosaurs and that i got lost and my parents found me sat on one of the kiosks eating ice cream haha. Might need to look into it for a future video
I remember giant snakes and ladders. I remember the dinosaurs. I was looking on their website. They are celebrating 175 years in business. There has to be some awesome history there :)
This looked so awesome. I was born too late to visit. This is what I was hoping Disney was going to do with Star Wars. An outlaw town with ruthless alien characters and stormtroopers handcuffing people and such. It sucks. I wanna ask Disney, "Did you even watch the movies?"
In mounds of dirt in pathway were sky ride was are the large concrete bases to the towers covered over unless been removed when housing was built in place.
I had no idea that this place even existed. It is a shame that Disney had such a big impact on the park forcing them to close. It reminds me of the south park episode where the kids go on a field trip to something similar to this and all the workers had to stay in character LOL.
grew up with the place, took gf's here, Silversprgs down the rd. still open but gov. owned last heard. Housing comm. sits were park once stood. six gun plaza out front. train loco. #7 crown auct. too great cypress bayou, tx., reboilered, operating. Other loco (VIP train) somewhere park in Louisiana. Watched scrappers lay down tall sky ride tower. Couple D9 dozers did rest.... I have orig. arm patch from there.
I made a Sox Gun tribute a few years ago on UA-cam. It went over really well but I deleted it earlier in the year. I remember going there and I have several family photos.
He and his wife Jeanette also started some type of cosmetic line. I remember my Mom telling me about it when it came out in the 70's. They were quite the entrepreneurs I guess lol!
I was 5 years old in 1975 when we tried to make it there on highway 19 we had a flat tire my dad drove my mom and I for 38 miles to get to a tire store.. we never made it....
There sure was a ton of death in this video.
Classic old Florida fun!
Well there were A Million Ways to Die in the West.
The coolest thing when you were a kid was the guy getting shot on the building then he rolled down the roof...he must have been pretty sore after doing that day in and out
@@wpatrickw2012 DUMB WAYS TO DIE
Grew up with this place....now a housing development and stripmall. Train went Great Jefferson Bayou,Tx. re-boilered, operating. 👍
Growing up in the 70s in Ocala it was THE place to go along with Silver Springs. Such great memories were from there. ❤️️
Wild Waters😁
Never be same!

No idea this was so close to Silver Springs. You should do one on Wild Waters, the water park next to Silver Springs that just closed a few years ago.
Thank you for taking me back to my childhood!!
My family took us there around 1965 and my father got lots of video. He died fifty years ago in 1969 and those old home videos he shot mean more than we would ever know. We lived in Gainesville north and went to Six Gun often. Definitely remember the big teepee that houses the sky ride.
Thanks for this video. My parents and I went here during Memorial day weekend 1976 then driving back to our home in North Carolina. My mom got sick and entered the hospital in late June. She died that September. It was our last vacation together. She just loved the place as she was a big fan of westerns.

Thanks so much Michael
Growing up in Florida I loved going to Six Gun Territory! Alot of great memories!
I love these Florida off brand parks so much history that I never knew and here in my own back yard!!!!! Great video brother
Only went once with my father sister and two brothers in the late 60s. Grandparents ran the Florida Alligator Farm in Callahan. What a great time to grow up!

I remember Ghost Town in the Sky at Maggie Valley, NC. Went there back in mid 60' s.
What memories this brought back!!! Thank you!💖
I went there when I was a young boy. I still have great memories of it
I went to this place many times as a kid. I loved it.
I spent a lot of time here and Silver Springs as a kid. I’ve been to both countless times and had a silver springs pass because we went every weekend...Wish I could take my kids
It was a must stop every year, loved that place as a kid .

My favorite theme park as a kid.
man, the end is wonderful! So glad to see they do a 're-enactment of a re-enactment'! Thanks again for the video, can't wait for the next one!
Six Gun Territory and Silver springs along with Marineland was great memories. One place that disappeared was called Marco Polo Park was also in Central Florida.
Richard Fox Yes I remember.
Thank for for going down memory lane...I grew up here My Father Ted Moore and our family were the first family to bring our Native American dances to this area.

Loved the bittersweet ending, good to know it lives on! :'D
My favorite theme park of my childhood!!! I have a extensive collection of memorabilia from there too!! ✌🏻️
I was there as a kid in 1962, and have never forgotten it. One thing not mentioned is that there was a full-size Morrison's cafeteria providing rounded meals, unlike most attractions of the era. I still find this amazing.
Sure don't remember that...
I dont either but back then cafeterias were nice places to dine, especially Morrison’s--as a kid it was so much fun to actually see what you were getting..lol!
I remember taking the train into the park. It got robbed every time🤔🤔🤔
Me too
This makes me wish western movies were still a thing. I loved them growing up. I might have to try and schedule some time to go checkout the rebirth of this little place.
I still shop at six gun plaza regularly .

That was great going to have to look for more footage about this place ☺
Another great episode!
One thing I must say is that the governor is obviously very tired of Walt in that video.
Well, this is a nice birthday gift. Funny how the featured park is in my home state, too!
I remember this park and the train ride. It was awesome. I am sorry that it was lost.
wow these are great doc on the old theme park bring back so many great memories. could you do one on Circus World/Boardwalk and baseball?
Yeah it will be out next month!
I got to visit this park a few times. The most memorable was in 1969, when I got to meet John Smith (Slim Sherman) from the TV series "Laramie".
Don't really think of cowboys or the wild west when you think of Florida.
You don't? HAve you not been to frontierland ha
cattle ranching was a big thing in Florida during the old days. they did have cowboys.
We still have ranching and cowboys. It's a whole different Florida away from the parks and beaches.
That's because you think of south Florida and the coasts. Central and north Florida is much more traditional southern than the rest of Florida.
Nope....
Another Great Expedition! Without your story telling - I would have never known of these fascinating parks existence. Suggestion how about an Expedition to "Old Chicago" that once stood in Bolingbrook, Il ?
I was looking into the recently since i will be in Illinois next month and was looking for ideas
You should do an expedition extinct on pirate's world, Florida.
I will ;)
Went here Xmastime 1981... This place was so damn cool!!!!
Wow you do such an amazing job on these videos. I live not to far from that train ride in Jefferson Tx. It’s on my list of things to do. To bad this place closed down. Thanks for another great video.
Thank you for watching4
The impact of disney opening had a huge impact AAAAAAAAAA
well it did ;)
thought i better drill it home with two impacts
Six Gun Territory used to be in my hometown. It was replaced by a shopping center that at one point had a good train store.
Robert babcock they did Halloween also at night.
Robert that ride was called the monster mouse.
I NOW LIVE RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET FROM 6 GUN AND 1 MILE FOR SILVER SPRINGS, MANY MEMORIES
I live an hour from Ocala however I was born in the early 2000s but my mom and dad told me about it.
My dad and I were just talking about this place and he said he got to meet the cast of Yancy Derringer there. He said the stunt men always put on a good show.
My family was there when I was a kid. We went there after the glass bottom boats. Catfish football lol
Jerry Pitchford I gator hunted and fished ocklawaha river and swamps 16 yrs.
My parents took me there as a kid. Never knew the name of the place though. I still have video. Thanks!
You should upload it , i would love it see it
Its a shame, i loved that place,it was so much fun.
Loved going to six gun territory as a kid.
Wish I was able to visit. Wild West City is my only alternative now in NJ.
Well, Howdy there Partner. Might I say you're looking Fit as a Fiddle.
Well, I best be Mosing on out of here. Adios Amigo.
Loved this place when I was a kid.

You should talk about the dinner shows around the Disney area which are now all but gone like King Henry's Feast.
Have you ever heard of wanna do city?? It was such a cool place in Florida when I was a kid
mary grace and they had a neat deal with CN.
Circus world.. boardwalk and baseball! Now poster park. Do that. 😊
;)
Circus World / Boardwalk and Baseball is now the center of a huge US 27 and I-4 interchange. Nothing remains to reference to anymore pretty sad.
Dang, that place looks fun!
Love your videos brother! Keep up the good work!
Thank you James!
Expedition Theme Park no problem man. Thank you for putting out this amazing content!
Awww man this is so up my ally i love this channel it teaches me things i never knew that i wish i knew when it was worth ....knewing???? Knowing lmao
This looked so awesome. I was born too late to visit. This is what I was hoping Disney was going to do with Star Wars. An outlaw town with ruthless alien characters and stormtroopers handcuffing people and such. It sucks. I wanna ask Disney, "Did you even watch the movies?"
Good documentary.
was there in 1972 i was 6 years old and man did i fall in love with the can can girls there.
This is some Westworld shit. Id love more parks like this. I grew up going to American Adventure so I love stuff like this.
Emma Blanco EVEN THE SIMPSONS EPISODE WITH THE COWBOY SAID! ‘OOOOOOOOOH SOOOOOO SICK!
What’s the 78 theme music song?
I miss Western movies and Parks. I really like the classic gunfight shows.
I Really wish Disney had bought this park and turned it into Disney's Six Gun Territory and made it a western Animal Kingdom
That would of been amazing
grew up with the place, took gf's here, Silversprgs down the rd. still open but gov. owned last heard. I live in Ocala this is crazy
I made a Sox Gun tribute a few years ago on UA-cam. It went over really well but I deleted it earlier in the year.
I remember going there and I have several family photos.
Oh that is a shame would of loved to watch it
Expedition Theme Park someday it will return. It’s buried on an external hard drive.
Dennis Smith I first went there at 6yr old....'63, till closed.
I want to go to a Feem Park someday
Nice one
train at Kirby farm is from opryland,tn
My Great Uncle R.B. Coburn owned this park 😊
Really?
Expedition Theme Park yes, he was my Mom's uncle!
Expedition Theme Park he also owned Ghost Town In The Sky amusement park.
Yeah I know that I made a video on it. That’s cool
He and his wife Jeanette also started some type of cosmetic line. I remember my Mom telling me about it when it came out in the 70's. They were quite the entrepreneurs I guess lol!
It's a huge shame that Disney came in and wiped out smaller niche theme parks. My dad and I are huge suckers for Westerns so we'd have loved it.
I was 5 years old in 1975 when we tried to make it there on highway 19 we had a flat tire my dad drove my mom and I for 38 miles to get to a tire store.. we never made it....
I REMEMBER THIS...THE CROOKED FLOOR HOUSE
Down visting yrs. ago.....Ill never go back. Way overcrowded everywere u go!! Crime shot up lost, few friends. 😐
Both steam locomotives are now at the Kirby farm.
