hot glue might work better as wood needs to be clamped with glue - then it will be stronger than the wood

Hello. I'm sorry to hear that, it might have been because of the glue. Make sure it is wood glue, and give some time to dry it. If it is still not working, try a different glue.

Try tacky glue and them let it dry...will be very strong
