    Modern society is designed in a way that forces you to use the motorized vehicle to get around. Denying people the right to use motorized vehicles is basically denying them a right to live.

    Even if you were drunk, you're not doing any damage to somebody in a car, period. It's a fact. If you're under the influence you'll most likely fall off your e-bike earlier on because these bikes still require some capacity of balance and motor skills unlike a car where you can just press a pedal and steer a wheel.

      The main difference isn't really about the bike but rather how it is ridden. Athletes are often a lot more respectful of cars while EBikes are often bought for Fun and thus Safety is pushed to the wayside.

    why are they trying to make him look bad but forget him why are they trying to demonize moped

  • @Person-zt5nq
    @Person-zt5nq 6 років тому +34

    The rational moral purpose of DUI laws is to protect other people from being harmed by drunk drivers. The argument is that drunk driving is irresponsible in that it's dangerous to other people. These e-bikes are not big enough to harm someone - anymore than a pedestrian (traditional bicycle or walking). If the max speed is 20 mph it's more like a pedestrian bike; you can't use it on the highway.
    If someone hurts themselves driving one of these, that's their responsibility. If the goal is to protect drivers of these bikes, then the laws should be on the sale of the e-bikes and on giving information to the buyers of the e-bikes. It makes no (moral) sense to arrest e-bike riders or require e-bike riders to have licenses. They aren't a threat to other people.
    Our country is turning into a totalitarian dictatorship. Let's fight to move in the direction of individual freedoms and reduce government micro management of people's lives, and reduce unnecessary costs and complexity that serves no purpose except to restrict individual freedom.
    Also DUIs are bad, but people who lose their license due to DUI are still human. Stop demonizing people with labels. The guy in the video is a great example. He lost his license for DUIs, and he wants a way to get to (work, grocery store, gym) that doesn't require a license (and doesn't require him to break the law by driving illegally). An e-bike is a great solution for people like him.
    That way he's not a danger to other people, and he can still live his life, be more self-sufficient, and contribute to society by commuting to his job.

    Im 16 I have a moped and live in NC. They have to be registered and have plates along with liability insurance. but if it doesn’t go over 35mph on flat ground then you don’t need to have a license for it. There is always a way around it tho. Sometimes people will rebuild the engine and put a kit on it so that it goes 80mph but in the body of a 49-50cc scooter: it’s dangerous but people do it

    So basically it’s a fancy e-bike. I’d be down to purchase it if I didn’t already have one and if it costed less money than my motorized bicycle. Also, I like the throttle, hub drive, and the rear view mirrors along with the headlights and turn signals. With my motorized bicycle, you can attach mirrors to it, but guess what? They’ll flop around and you’ll be looking down at your feet or up into the sky if you run over a bump in the road or decide to go off roading or down alleys. These mirrors look a bit more sturdy. My friend put a little two stroke on his bike and we ride around. It takes him up to 20mph, he pedals the rest. If he needed to go faster, we could give him a bit of a smaller rear sprocket or put a gear system on his bike, but then it’d require a license and registration along with other requirements for being classified as a moped. Sometimes I wish our bikes could go faster so we could get on bigger roads, but all that is about to change as soon as I get my actual drivers license. There should be no problem with this if there is no problem with a motorized bicycle that can reach the same exact speeds. I’d argue that it’s safer because of the hub drive, rear view mirrors, and the headlights and turn signals. Where I’m from, you don’t even need to have those on the bike if it’s legally classified as a motorized bicycle.

    Perfect example of overstep. I don't have a DUI I have a ebike because you don't need a license. I still have to get around, it's cheaper, it's quick, and it's my choice to not having to waste my money on tags and license and insurance. Because I could not afford all those regulations. I jave a right to travel I shouldn't have to be taxed to death here too. In alls I can say is stay in your lane and I am glad I don't have to live in Florida. I hope the laws stay the same, I'd hate to have spent all that money on something that I can not use anymore. People just got to hate, it's only a problem if they are drunk riding, I do believe that is not legal now. This sounds like a personal issue or a vendetta and is out of bounds. After all it is Florida 😁

    Glad the e-bikes are not illegal in that state, wish that were the case here as well. The e-bikes are safe, cheap, and are a good source of transportation for those that can not afford to keep a vehicle. Angers me that they are already giving e-bikes a negative stereotype, as if all are alcoholics, drunks, and trash out on the roads, rather than noting most are just in need of transportation to and from work, and grocery shopping. With all of the money the states and federal government squander, I find it hard to believe that sidewalks, and expanding roads for an e-bike, bicycle lane will never happen.

    you can do more dammage on inline skates.. its the punishment that does not fit the crime.. no car is valid but not forever.. if people can change then redemption should be part of the crime.. this country is to harsh on everything. lawyer make money and everyone else does too.. we are the slaves.. why should we not drink. public transport should be cheaper and more available.. but you might as well give a guy the chair if you are going to take his ride to work away..

    To me this presents an alternative to our car dominated American culture. Our cities are so spread apart there is no meaningful form of transportation other than cars which are not accessible to everyone. Public transportation is lacking in so many American cities. The only way for people to travel without a drivers license is using one of these. If we increase public transportation and make everything more walkable, we would not need to use these.

    I can literally ride a rusted huffy from the garbage twice as fast, cars can go between five and ten times as fast, and weigh probably close to 100 times as much. Even if he passed out drunk while riding this thing, he would be the only one hurt. Drunks need to run errands and get to work like the rest of us, and many communities don't have busses, uber, or taxis. I bet a car commercial appeared right after this particular news story.

    Those are not e-bikes. Those are mopeds/scooters. I really wish the news and all the politicians would just stop. E-bikes and E-scooters are completely harmless. If someone decides to be reckless on an electric bike or scooter, the only one that's going to be hurt is the dumb butt on the scooter. If property damage is an issue, make a law requiring insurance on them. I really feel like the only reason e bikes are illegal or limited in so many places is taxes. The government makes loads of money every year off vehicle registration costs and vehicle fines. They know they'll lose that income if smaller electric vehicles like bikes and scooters become too popular.

    Drunks will get around. I'd much rather have them on a bike... not in a car. Driving, riding, walking, or loitering... (drunk in public) is still a ticket waiting to happen. So I don't see them as a loophole, just a smaller fine.
