We are arriving (first time) to Madrid airport in a few days (May 25 2022) and will be traveling to different cities every few days. We will need to get to Ronda de Atocha from the airport (which seems a little confusing to me as to the exact location). We are trying to decide whether to rent a car at the airport upon arrival or take the metro to our Madrid destination then try to rent a car somewhere in Madrid. What would you recommend? Is there parking near Ronda de Atocha?

Thank you so much for your kind words. If you arrive at T4 or T4s, you could take the airport train bypassing the metro closings altogether. Here's a recent video on the train: ua-cam.com/video/sYVvXSSJzz0/v-deo.html You would ride the train to Nuevos Ministerios and change to lines C3 or C4 going the whole way to Sol.
If it's the metro you want:
      - take the airport metro to Mar de Cristal.
      - change to line 4 and travel to Goya.
      - change to line 2 that will take you to Sol.

Thanks a lot for your kind words! Two options:
      a) if you are traveling with luggage, take the taxi, it's a 30€ fixed rate.
      b) or you could take bus 101 or bus 200 to Canillejas. You would have to walk and then take the metro green line directly to La Latina (get ready, it's quite a long ride). To board the bus, first you would need to go to the underground station at the airport and buy a Tarjeta Multi with a Metrobus 10 viajes. You will pay to take the bus and then to take the metro, but as you will be talking the metro outside the airport, you will pay no supplement.
      All the best!

I got there by basically taking the metro all the way to nuevos ministeros and transferring to line 10, then transferring to line 1 and taking that down to sol. a lot of train hopping but i somehow made it lol. i neglected to get a cercanías ticket so i had to take the metro all the way lol, cercanías seems a bit easier

Hi Peter. If you want to use the metro, the bus service covering the stretch of metro undergoing improvements is a nuisance, but I would stick to it if I wasn't traveling with heavy luggage. Travel on the airport line to the final stop, Nuevos Ministerios, and change there to line 10 (direction Puerta del Sol). In three stations you will reach Tribunal. All the best!

I'm hoping to get your opinion on my upcoming travel for Camino de Santiago. I will be traveling (solo) from MAD to Pamplona by train. Ive heard some say to go from Airport to Charmartin and then take a train from Charmartin to Pamplona. Others say to go from Airport to Atocha then a Renfe train to Pamplona. Is one route better then or easier then the other? Also do you have any videos similar to this one, showing how to get around Atocha station (buy tickets, finding platforms, etc)? Thank you Tony for your great video. I have a question about buying a card for 2 people. When we go through the turnstiles, using the one 10-journey card for the 2 of us, does the turnstile stay open for both of us to pass through? Does the one card work for both of us in the center of Madrid, going through the turnstiles together? Do you have a video showing 2 people using one card? Would a Tourist Ticket be a better purchase for our 3 days in Madrid? Thank you!

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal
      @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal  Рік тому +1

Hello there. Although the Multi Card can be shared, each person traveling must validate their trip once. The way you do it: you stand still by the turnstile with the card and validate the trip of your companion. They go through the turnstile. You validate your own trip and go through the turnstile. You will see how simple it is. If you are intending to make heavy use of Madrid public transport, and use the airport metro as well, the 3-day Tourist Ticket can be a good investment. All the best!

Thank you for the information, it is very useful. I will arrive in Madrid on 6th of april and i have to go from the airport to Ibiza metro station. I saw that a part of line 8 is under construction and i cannot change the metro at the Colombia station, so i have to change it at Mar de Cristal. I was wondering that when i have to change the line, do i have to validate again the metro card, so that it takes me another trip from the 10 trips i bought? Or i validate it just once, at the airport, when i enter the metro station?
    Thank you!

    • @ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal

Hello there, Kimberly! Great to hear you found the info useful. If you change metro lines, and for as long as you don't leave the station, you don't have to validate the trip again. If you stay within the metro system, you will only have to validate your ticket at the airport for the entire trip to your final destination.
P.S.: rather than construction work, it's maintenance work keeping line 8 closed between Mar de Cristal and Colombia.

Amazing video! Extremely helpful, thank you very much!
I have a question though. Tomorrow I'm landing in Madrid to take a flight to São Paulo, but the waiting time between flights will be of 11h, so I'm thinking of spending some time in the city. I'm arriving at Terminal 4S and the flight to SP is at the Terminal 1. My checked luggage is probably going directly to SP, so I won't need to get it in Madrid.
    The questions are:
1-You think there's enough time to just take a walk around Plaza Mayor area and then get back to my flight to SP? Assuming my flights won't delay, of course.
2-When I'm buying the metro tickets, should I add 2 extra charge to the airport instead of just one? One for my exit and another one for my way back
Thank you once again, and great work!!

Hi again, make sure your luggage is sent through to São Paulo, on a T4S to T1 connection that is not a common thing. Your questions:

      2. buy a Título Turístico valid for one day, it will be cheaper. Details here ua-cam.com/video/HJHUDy7pb_A/v-deo.html

Hi great info! So couple of questions... 1. Need to go from airport to puerta del sol area (Sol I guess) so after Nuevos Ministerios what line do we take and also the original ticket goes all the way to Sol?? Yes?? 2. If you purchase the 10- journey ticket, do you know have 8 uses left since 2 are used from airport?? 3. Does the bus really take 1 hour to Sol area? and bus stop there near Hotel Europa? Thanks for your help! Headed in 2 months!!

Hi Allison, we have a video with the specifics on how to reach Sol ua-cam.com/video/Z8EU5rjmvGo/v-deo.html Your metro ticket will take you there the entire way, for as long as you stay within the metro system. Out of 10 tickets, you will use 1 per person. On the video you will see there are no buses to Sol. All the best.

Hello there, if you are traveling with luggage, we would recommend you take a taxi (fixed rate, 30€). Otherwise, you would need to be a bit more specific, as Chueca is an area served by several transport alternatives and our recommendation will depend on the address of your accommodation.
