The "S/E" means "single edge" as "T/E" would be "Tanto Edge" etc... I'm loving the "MERLOT/BloodRed" color! I'd prob get this color just different blade variation... I do have 2 "manual" SOCOM ELITE'S that i absolutely love! Both 2019/204P one is O.D. Green with Tanto stonewashed blade & the other is that cool Burnt Orange color with the sweet stonewashed clip point blade! Got both used but pretty much N.I.B. just played with in house a few time's i could tell... I always have 1 of them with me, sometimes both! I'm just in love with them!
Don't forget D/E is double edge

Have a Ultratech...sold my UTX85....but have to say that my Guardian Tactical Recon-035 OD Green StoneWashed Tanto... is heads above my Microtech to me ....love that thing!!!!!
(no button rattle on the Guardian Tactical, either)...Also...Epic Snuggle Bunny teased that Guardian Tactical will have some BIG surprises in 2020!! Can't wait.

I love my ultratech s/e. Carry it more than anything else. (Although I did just get my knifejoy smock yesterday so it's in the pocket this morning) lots of people say they aren't practical for EDC but I totally disagree with that. After a bit they soften up on the spring tension.
I just got a UTX85 a few weeks ago. I got black T/E stonewashed. Love it.

Button rattle is normal. Theres a spring under the button to hold it up off the body a bit.
The button is supposed to move freely like that so when its in your pocket the pocket folds will push it at an angle so it won't deploy as easily in your pants

I have an Ultratech on the way to me (my 1st Microtech) & should be here Monday because It didn't show up on Saturday like they said it would. Damned CVD-19!
I've never had an otf but I wouldn't mind owning one. If I did it would be a microtech for sure. Great video!

The new mic sounds a lot better, I didn’t notice the difference until I went back to an older video. The button click-y-ness really stands out with the new mic lol

I ordered my first Microtech last week...UTX85...Knife was extremely hard to fire and retract....I hvae several OTF knives and all are easy to fire....Very disappointed with Microtech...I sent it back for a full refund..
Wow, l'm surprised its that stiff..According to the MT wedsite, the 85s are designed with an ez fire actuator and is why they're one of the most popular. Luckily AZ has sensible laws and can even carry firearms concealed without a permit, so there's no restrictions on knives either. We've always been able to open carry any firearm as long as it was visible, but recently passed laws to carry concealed without permit and is the way it should be
All otf’s have a small amount of blade play except one, the G&G deadlock. You won’t find any others that have perfected blade play
SE means single edge instead of double edge or tanto or serrated
Great video! I want one of these exact model. AAnd Color! I have had Lightning’s they r great but def wanted at least one nice otf.. I’ve got plenty of other knives
I just got my ultratech in today. I ordered it with the cypher pen. Expensive for a pen. Lol.
I have a Blue MicroTech UTX 85 T/E (Tanto Edge) and I love it. The button rattle is because the tolerance can’t be too tight because the button needs to slide up and down. They have a spring underneath that lightly pushes up against the button to keep it from rattling too badly.

Cool color combo on that one. The UTX-85 is what I’d get if I could carry an OTF. I wonder why they can’t make the rattle go away. Seems like something they could engineer out if they wanted to.
The SE stands for single edged. The two edged have a DE for double edged.
The UTX is a classic. At least the glass breakers on the new ones are not as sharp as the older ones. The Guardian tactical otf’s are really nice as well. The 85 is a great size. The small one is super small. Pretty sure a little play is normal for otf knives. I think the only one that has no play is the G&G Hawk Deadlock.
the SE means Single Edge. TE means Tanto Edge. DE means Dagger Edge. my first OTF is the Microtech Cypher SE SL. the second one is a Microtech Dirac DE. my third one is a Microtech Ultratech DE. now currently saving up to get a G&G Hawk Deadlock.
Coolness. They're definitely addictive. The 85s are a nice size. I have a D\E 85 and a few fill sized. The 70s are a bit too small for me. You're gonna have a little side to side play on almost all OTFs. Some newer players are getting close to none, like Heretic, Guardian Tactical, and Tighe & Friends, but only G&G Hawk have perfected the zero blade play OTF so far, with the Deadlock. Will be interested to see if you keep it. I think any collection needs at least one. 👍🏻
My first Microtech came in today as well!! I got the bounty hunter with Tanto blade.
Most you'd get would probably have even more blade play than that. I'd be happy with that one
I got an auto I can carry in CA, the Boker Kompakt. A sub 2” blade for $45. It’s a Vox design and is surprisingly good in hand.

I’ve been wanting to pick one up for a while. Love that color. I work in a retail type office not sure a full size one would be too big or not. I need to check out an 85.
You can get deep carry clips that come with a screw to replace the glass breaker. I picked mine up on ebay for like 30 bucks

Got a Halo V and a Troodon D/E full serrated that my buddy gave me. Also have a Dragon Fly That is rare and sooo awesome. Gonna get one more that will be a S/E if some sort. Enjoy the endless hrs of firings LOL

You should check out a guardian tactical also. Smooth button action. Love mine but love my microtechs as well. I have a utx 85, ultratech, ultratech hellhound the bronze one, and a combat troodon and 1 guardian tactical 035.
Just got a microtech ultratech SE.. it's definitely nice..but i don't like how the button has some play in it. Makes it feel a bit cheap. I had a hogue compound OTF which had a rock solid button.
my first microtech was an ultratech in the exact same configuration as this one. carried it for months and it eventually got gunked up. nothing to complain about except the priority screws. that shits kinda wack
There's actually a spring under that switch to give it just a little lift. I forget the mechanical reason, but there is one.
My Ultratech has that switch lift also but not the Troodon.
I love my LEO Ultratech, but the grind angle on the edge is horrible. It is super small and steep. I convinced a buddy at work to get one and he has the same issue. It got dull quick because of the grind, so I sent it back to them for sharpening. Six weeks later I got it back still not very sharp. I was hesitant to sharpen myself because of the whole warranty thing. I realized the warranty does not matter if I never carry it because it is dull so I put it on my Lansky at 20*. Best thing I could have done. It is razor sharp and also strops easy since the grind is so much better. I carry it all the time now.
So good. I’m in Cali and I wish we could just carry autos. I would buy a micro tech in a heart beat
This may be old news since you posted this 2 years ago, but CA laws actually do allow you to carry an OTF with a blade shorter than 2 inches. Switchblades are prohibited, but the legal definition of a switchblade includes a blade length minimum of 2 inches. You'd be perfectly fine in the legal sense if you carried the Microtech UTX-70 CA model, with the 1.9" blade.

The UTX-85 and Troodon (roughly same size, but kinda like the looks of the Troodon better) are my favorites of the Microtechs I own, though the UTX-70 is kinda just fun, good fifth pocket knife. If you think the action is a bit difficult, you should try the older models. Less traction on the switch and more square body. A lot of people I've handed the old model to (Ultratech) can't deploy/retract it one handed. But even this "new" model, certainly not as easy as say the Guardian Tactical Recon-035 (love!) or a Benchmade Infidel (hate!).

Mic sounds great, EXCEPT a small humming, possibly a fan or something thats nearby, mic does pick it up. You might be boosting your mic gain a hair too much. It's picky just like the blade play in your video, its good and you can live with it, same applies for your new mic lol. Thanks for keeping the content going!!!!

I had one of those, different color, loved it and stupidly sold it 😩😫 All of those little rattles are par for microtech, s/e stands for single edge (I think)

I recently bought an Ultratech black D/E (double edge) w/satin and the same birth date in M390. I heard Microtech is switching entirely to 204 so they can say, 'absolutely 100% made in USA.' Speaking of dates, I'm 4 days older than you...+ a few years. ; )
I have the merlot Ultratech with dagger blade and the true color is REALLY hard to capture accurately in pictures. It’s the one Microtech I haven’t been able to bring myself to carry cuz its just so purdy.

The firing button is supposed to have some play. all their knives are like that.

I saw a post on Facebook this morning where one of my friends asked everyone to post one true thing that nobody would believe. Yours would definitely have been that you’ve never fired a Microtech. You are definitely right that your wife want to kill you for firing the knife all week. My wife HATES my OTFs. They’re so satisfying though!

I just ordered mine from blade ops. Same handle color but satin m390 tanto blade. I liked the tanto and kind of think tanto blades are great all around blades.

Get yourself a guardian tactical recon otf instead. Build quality is head and shoulders above Microtech’s in my opinion.
I'll never buy another Microtech knife, OTF or otherwise. They use proprietary screws and have one of the worst customer service departments in the knife industry. You are lucky if you have minimum blade play because you can usually hear the blade rattle. Save yourself some grief and pass on it. If you want a great OTF, save your money and but the Gavin and Hawk Deadlock which is expensive but has zero blade play and a great customer service program and will provide you with a great deal of pleasure.

Is there a detent ball/ramp on OTFs? Or an equivalent?
These are cool. To me they are a OVER PRICED fidget toy. I bought 5 of them and then I sold 5 of them. There are better knives out there for the buck IMO. A premium fidget toy. Tony takes the $ to the bank. Kudos to him for coming up with them...For the price the black should be DLC. It isn't and it wears off pretty quick. No reason for them to cut corners at the prices they charge.

I've never held/used an OTF, but if it has rattle, blade play, and mystery steel, what the heck are you paying hundreds of dollars for? I just don't get it with these Microtechs. The deployment doesn't even look that impressive...

What an overpriced and overhyped product. It's a joke how people can justify their value. When looking for mine I went to several shops and tried a few on- line retailers and not one of them had bladeplay similar to yours. They were sloppier than a soup sandwich. The button rattle was also a joke. I really wanted to like them but find the brand extremely underwhelming.
