I’ve been talking nonstop about your videos this past week to friends and it just makes me look crazy. Watching a guy eat fruit is a hard sell for some reason. Happy Halloween
Love that fruit, in Puerto Rico we call it corazón (heart) but I've had the reddish kind..inside it's kinda pinkish..delish accurate description. I can't describe it as inferior or superior..they are just a bit different.
The red ones (they are inside and outside, there's a variety that's red only outside) taste better they are kinda hard to find. It's easier to find them in Central America like Belize,Costa Rica
@@WeirdExplorer The red skinned variety is also not too hard to find in the Coastal parts of India (Konkan region and Goa). Locally it is known as Ram-phal (or Fruit of Rama). Similarly the sugar apple is known as sita-phal (or Fruit of Sita).
@@WeirdExplorer Actually, I have a red custard apple tree. It is younger, but it *may* produce fruit this year. If it does, I can send you one. I'm the guy that sent you a Geffner Atemoya and ripe and unripe Barbados Cherries. Also, because it's winter down here, the ice cream / blue java bananas still haven't fully matured, but they likely will VERY soon. I can send you some of those still along with the massive kumquats I have.
Agreed - From my experience the red/pink fleshed ones are waayyy better in flavor. Doesn't have to be red skinned, just red/pink fleshed. Still that sweet yogurt flavor, but with raspberry and fig overtones. Super addicting, love em. The white fleshed ones are good, but from what I've had are usually more gritty in texture and just not as good.
Thanks for the nonstop uploads it must be exausting. I'm learning something new every video without getting bored. Can't say that for any other channel on UA-cam. It's only a matter of time before you get the subscribers you have already earned. Just don't stop doing what your doing.
I've actually tried custard apple before, I was SO EXCITED to try a fruit that was meant to taste like custard/pudding...And then I tried it and it tasted like nothing T-T This was a lot of years ago though, and it was bought from either the supermarket or greengrocer's in the UK (it's actually a pretty common "novelty" fruit here) so it wouldn't have been as fresh as yours. I think I'll give it a go again next time I see them, I was so disappointed last time XD
Was it this fruit or the sugar apple? Sounds like my experience with that one. "Custard apple" sometimes refers to any of the related species of this fruit.
@@WeirdExplorer I'm pretty sure it was this fruit, because it has the "flattened," almost indented type scales, and the same pasty/mushy consistency as the one in this video as well. They were definitely labelled as custard apples, though labels can never be 100% trusted when it comes to fruit from the local markets... I think I might have just tried an extra bland variety, or you lucked out and found a superior variety ^-^
@@amy7189 It was probably a cherimoya. You get them in Asda around now. 1.79 for 2! Wait till they are ripe and they are amazing. If you eat it unripe it's meh.
I've tried soursop (an Annona fruit), and I have to admit it was absolutely delicious! No maggots or other goodies in it, but it was full of seeds. I intend to buy a grafted soursop to see if I can get it to fruit here in England (obviously with winter protection).
Hiya, i have just come back from Madeira, Portugal. I ate there Anona Lisa, which is also quite yoghurt/custard tasting. I have subscribed as I love to try new foods. Eveline from Scotland
Yeah! Awesome! Super excited to see this one! I also assumed it tasted like an inferior cherimoya but I’m interested to see it’s quite different entirely! Now I’m curious if the red one is any different from this one! I assume you bought more than one fruit- was there any variation between the fruits?
I usually do, but in this case I was about to leave where I was staying, so just got the one. Here's hoping I can get a red one some day... maybe even both and do a comparison :)
We call this "ata" (you pronounce the "t" like the "t" in the word "sàute" and not like in the word "table") in West Bengal, India and it's quite popular and easily available here. I love it
Would you ever consider moving to Cali or south Florida to be closer to some of those exotic fruit farms? You could probably find work in the entertainment field? 🤙🏼
This fruit reminds me of atis, which I had in the Philippines. However, I think atis is called sugar apple in English. Miss the tropical fruits there! And I just stumbled across your channel-- interesting and unique content! 😄 Thoroughly enjoying your videos 😊💖
Great video! I recently tried Japanese barberry for the first time. It's very bitter on its own but it makes a nice addition to foods and it's good as jelly.
Interesting, you broke the apparent consensus that this is one of those lesser quality Annonas. Maybe what you got there is a superior variety. What I really want to see you try is Ilama, have you tried that by now?
Thats what I kept hearing "sweet but not as popular as _" I was frankly surprised with how interesting this one was. I'd love to try Ilama, havent found one yet...
that could have been a not so ripe one, ripe custard apple, the one with enhanced bulges on it tastes like sugar. the one thatyou ate or "ram_fal" or ram's fruit, is less sugary one but mostly would have been a less ripe one, cheers, love your vids mate!!!
no way! I was just reading about this one! I've been trying to find the red/pink fleshed variety. I think Miami fruit has them.. if I am not able to find a tree I may pay to get some.
@@WeirdExplorer yeah, you have to click "see our full selection" there was a video too.. it's on there under the misnomer custard apple.. which is used interchangeably (as you know) with any annona that isn't soursop. The first time I saw it was on their site.. then I had to search for smooth skinned red annona fruit. :) Their picture shows a super smooth (not lobed) skinned fruit that barely has the appearance of scales.
@@WeirdExplorer :) I'm a little obsessed right now, we're food/fruit foresting our yard. We live in Florida and it drives me nuts that most kids that live here only know grapes, apples, and bananas as fruit.. most of the things people buy at the grocery can't even grow here. It's non sense.
Hey bro great video, I have question tho have you ever tried a maclura pomifera or also known as Osage Orange? It's a lite green color and about the size of a grapefruit and has little bumps all around it. Let you know I'm from Ohio and I've seen these all my life but never tried one, a bit scared to because I hear there not supposed to be eaten but it's still called a fruit. Right now around this time of the year they can be found but before I'll try it I'm gonna do a bit more research on them to see what's the consequences if a person eats one. Anyway if you have tried one on ya travels I would like to hear about it and whenever I try one I'll give you an update. Peace bro stay fruitful lol 🍍🥑🥝🥥🍈
He did a video on Osage Orange (and how to eat them) in December of 2015 a little less than 3 years ago. As I recall it was not all that pleasant due to the latex in these fruit. ua-cam.com/video/40U8F8ZD9f0/v-deo.html&vl=en
Every time I try to buy a Cherimoya or Soursop, I get it when it's nice and soft (but not too soft) with a bit of browning. Always tastes awful. I've only had one that tasted like anything and it was amazing, but that was out in New Mexico. Not sure what I'm doing wrong or why the fruits taste bad (too fibrous, hard to scoop, really strange taste, almost like a super unripe green banana. But if it sits longer it'll get moldy :(
bro your visual presentation of fruits may need improvement. The fruit on your carpet next to a used paper tissue and a plastic bag doesn't look too great...

Haha well thank you. and trust me, I know the reaction. :D
I have also convinced my friends and family that I have mental health issues with all my talk about weird fruit that they’ve never heard of.
My friends and family all think I'm weird. ...but they already did

Tastes like coconut yogurt ehh... that honestly sounds amazing haha.

Thanks Bruce! I managed to find some red custard apples while I was in Madagascar. Those others though would be interesting to try, keep me posted! :)

Good luck with your quest!
You should build a greenhouse. Temperature is not the only thing, you should be careful to keep the humidity, and ventilation.
Thanks. Love this channel.
Anona fruits are one of the best!
Ohhh, to have access to these in America... Thanks as always for sharing your endeavors and adventures!
your channel is great, and I love fruit!
thanks!

I love these. Interesting taste.
Sounds great!
Apparently there’s a fruit for every flavor in western cuisine lmao.
I’m so glad you found it I remember you found one in a park that was underripe a while ago!
Good memory!
Omg I had one of these in London!
GOT IT...YOGURT!!!
There's also the purple custard apple if you haven't already known about it. 🤣
I rely like yogurt, so a yogurt fruit sounds pretty nice.
Man that looks so good,I can taste it through the screen!❤️😋😋😋😋😋
There’s a tomato variety called “oxheart.” Same idea, different fruit.
So is the yoghurt flavor a cream flavor? Or the sour flavor?
both, it has a touch of the bite that yogurt has as well as creaminess
Bullocks heart, a rather unfortunate name lol! Keep up the good work!
Great video! I recently tried Japanese barberry for the first time. It's very bitter on its own but it makes a nice addition to foods and it's good as jelly.
I Love annona's, I'm growing four separate members of the family, but man, gritty coconut yogurt just doesn't sound fantastic
Would be cool to see a video of unique middle eastern fruits, if there are any I don’t know
future goals :)
Interesting fruit!
Yo bro, I just found a video you did on the Osage Orange lol 🤣🤣 🍈 bout to go watch it
I'd like to blend this one with some durian. Bet that would be good!
ooh.. yeah that would be good.
Please try Pawpaw fruit the largest fruit native to North America
I did! I tried a bunch of varieties of paw paw a while back

Finally
In India it probably has the bacteria of yoghurt

anonas are daaaaaycent
Hey you can India 😍😍
Lol, you are cool
You have found the vegan yogurt Congrats also Happy Halloween
We should be importing this stuff instead of making the subpar dairy free stuff and then the growers in the other countries would benefit too I hope.
no way! I was just reading about this one! I've been trying to find the red/pink fleshed variety. I think Miami fruit has them.. if I am not able to find a tree I may pay to get some.
I don't think miamifruit has them. :/ They have a red sugar apple I think though. I hope I'm wrong though :)

your bullock's heart seems under ripe. I had a soursop that had that interior texture, but the soursop needed some more time on the tree to ripen.
Dear Jared, did you have the Musang King Durian? Apparently this is the best and most prized variety of Durian...
I haven't, I found some at a market but realized they were fakes... need to try again after doing some research.
if it smells like a yogurt and looks like a yogurt, it's a custard apple!
truth
San Pablo and Fernandez custard apples (red) are far superior than what u are reviewing here. Please review those
You should remind to avoid eating the seeds of all Annona species. And in general consume Annonas in moderation.

So glad you went vegan! All the best foods can still be enjoyed. This fruit sounds great.
Just call it Yoghurt Apple
Wow your episode on Halloween is 313 aka Oct 31 and 13 the unlucky number COINCIDENCE I THINK NOT
313 episodes in and the intro music is still loud as hell.
That fruit lost it's tegrity.
I think it was a bit unripe
Please do remember not to eat it when the skin goes dark or black because it becomes poisonous all over
