2005 Dave McKean - "MirrorMask" (visual highlights)

- When Jim Henson Productions and Sony wanted to make something along the lines of Jim Henson's "The Dark Chrystal" or "Labyrinth" they approached graphic novelist Neil Gaiman and illustrator Dave McKean, who had previously collaborated on the graphic novel series "Black Orchid" (1988), "The Sandman" (1989-1996) and children's book "Coraline" (2002). The result was this very artful journey through a fantasy world. Almost every scene is chock-full of imaginative designs and special effects for which about 15 young animators were hired, almost all of them just graduated from the local art school.
The songs in the soundtrack are "(They Long To Be) Close to you" (a cover of the classic written by Burt Bacharach & Hal David), sung by Josefine Cronholm, and "If I Apologise" (written by Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman) sung by Josefine Cronholm & Ashley Slater. - Фільми й анімація
Watch it as a kid and to this day could not figure out if it actually existed or it was a fever dream
Same
The comment above you said the exact same thing. That’s weird
Ok I saw this as a kid but I forgot most of it but thought the little pieces of it I could still see in my mind were bits of a fever dream or something. But wow I guess not.
Hey this is weird but I also dreamt about it when I have a fever. Something like this, and I'll wake up so confused
Yo same wtf is up with that?? I specifically remember that weird winged cat thing. Bruh this shit brings back some memories
I think it's the ADHD nature of the visuals and the CGI all having this kind of blurry glow, it just makes it hard to focus on anything and therefore commit it to memory. Meanwhile I can remember The Neverending Story and Labyrinth like the back of my hand.
maybe stop smoking so much weed
I saw this movie a loooong time ago and only one time, and bits and pieces of it were stuck in my mind and I always remembered the name
This film has such a unique vibe and atmosphere. It gives me such cozy 2000s nostalgia, especially pre-pandemic. The music is amazing. It has this sort of Turkish/Bollywood drama color grade.
finally figured out what this movie is after being in my subconscious forever!!!!
yep this is about what i thought it would be
For those who thought The Dark Crystal or Labyrinth weren't trippy enough...
Okay but why is it that any one who’s seen this saw it as a kid and had it stuck in their head forever??? Took me so long to find the name of the movie….
For some reason I remember seeing this movie. I remember glasses of it but my family says that we've never seen it before yet I remember watching it
Same! I have been looking for this movie for ages from only bits and pieces of memory I had of it
Same
Bruh I remember it so vividly yet so...wrong?
I was only 6 year old when i watched this
Remember the weird cat stuff but it’s rather...more terrifying n more real
I remember her doublegangger rip apart all of the painting but it’s not as dramatic n look so different
Remember the floating books but she sit above it then go down the misty fog and down a tunnel
Remember the creepy puppet change her cloth but they are singing the ‘mother’ ?song instead what they Actually sang(like -take my eye put them aside, take my vains...)
I never heard of the son before yet somehow remember it so clear yet...false memories so wrong
Same I remember everything about this movie but all my family say that we have never seen it …. Weird
@@Rinsui literally same it's so creepy
The first time I saw this movie was when I was 5. It still stands as my all-time favorite movie.
Someone I fell in love with says this is one of their favorite movies. It makes sense. You fall in love with people who have good taste. I'm glad I stumbled across this here.
This is so sweet
Even this movie was a low budget, story, atmosphere and visual style is incredible. One of my favorite movie of all time.
I got this movie in a set with Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal. I used to fall asleep to it almost every night in 2017 because it autolooped. I always fell asleep before the ending and haven’t seen the ending myself.
the ultimate trip set
Yes!!!! I was just telling my friends about this movie and that box set! I couldn't emember the name of the movie and we were looking through a box of movies and it was in it!

I've only seen Mirrormask , Monkeybone , Labyrinth and Dark Crystal but I do agree in fact these movies inspired me to make my own fantasy world named the Neverworld
We can't stop here, this is doppelganger country.
I don't know whether I should admire the music or the visuals more in this movie it is such a feast for the senses.
This whole movie is so weird. I feel like im on drugs or something when im watching this.. And the cat, bird something guy is super creepy when he is close to the "camera".
Ooh my goodness this both mesmerizing and creepy, yet visually stunning
Man this movie was so weird but I was so obsessed as a kid, it has a odd charm to it
Such an amazing, imaginative work. Going to watch it again now.
the movie is as wierd as it seems
but in a good way
Wish more movies were weird like this. I love the music, the visuals, and the story is neat.
Great film! I was lucky enough to stumble upon this film on tv one day. God blessed me
This fucking movie scared the shit out of me as a kid, good to see it back.
I found out about this movie bc the youtube algorithm recommanded me the riddle scene, and honestly, this is one of my fav movies of all time, easily in the top 5
this movie is like a piece of art. I'm 14 , and I saw this movie a few months ago, it's now my favourite! I absolutely love the style , the music , everything :)
I didn't think this film could get any more confusing then I watched this.
I mean it's excellent but
jesus
That's not a film: just a random collection of the soundtrack composed by the amazing Portishead
silent hills look amazing
antonio ortiz that’s a pretty solid comparison right there m8
Esta película la vi cuando tenía como 13 años,ahora tengo 23 y sigo buscándola, me da una sensación extraña pero es una de mis favoritas.
Es tan irreal y nostálgico todo, me encanta y siempre me va a encantar.
I get chills watching this and remembering my favorite movie of all time.... I need to go find it and watch it
Cut this blatant and honest artistic expression with the thrills and the late 90's video quality of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and you'll have a great start for a Sandman show.
FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME.
How many years have passed
It was so hard to find this movie considering the only thing i remembered were those two floating things
this movie is so underrated
Quisiera estar en ese lugar y vivir para siempre allí.
If you watch this movie with hot tea and a snack it's even better
i love this movie, saw it in the cinema about 5 times
I love this movie as much as the next guy, it's one of my favorites, but... looking at all these scenes right in a row, all I have to ask is; why?
The answer is simple, WHY NOT
High quality wonderful, thank you so much !
It looks like an old PC point'n click from the late 90s'.
So true lmao
....oh my god, I have to see this movie now
Yes u really do its amazing
I see this movie when I was like 6 and let me tell you....that was WAYYY too early. Im still scared of that fucking puppet dress up scene
el superduo Gaiman y mckean !!! muy buen concepto y mezcla entre ilustración,historia y musica.

This is fucking breathtaking!
어렸을 때 인냥이, 새릴라, 마네킹 보고 ㄹㅇ개충격 먹었는데
wow
what an acid trip
this is what lewis carroll must have felt when he was high on opium and wrote alice in wonderland
lol
+stalematesibling While Alice's Adventures in Wonderland could've been influenced by drugs, it definitely wasn't the result of drugs.
Catching strong Never Ending Story vibes from this one.
Nothing like it at all. This is Dali level surrealism, and The Never ending Story is Surreal fantasy.
Esto es como vivir o soñar con el dixit

Hi, could you please let us know which song is used in the last bit?
It's beautiful, Shazam doesn't pick it up but supposedly it could be somewhere like SoundCloud yes?
pretty please and thank you for the video!
There's a soundtrack album, by Iain Ballamy. Two of the song titles and the vocalists are mentioned in the description beneath the video.
@@magicalmotionmuseum oh I saw the song titles in the description, just didn't realize they were all direct extracts from the soundtracks to the movie. thank you, found the playlist on sc
Before Coraline, there was MirrorMask
Watched this trippin on acid a few times! Funniest shit and also mesmerizing. 😏
Pass the weed
Hrrr!!!! 👌💨💨💨💨💨
Saben donde puedo encontrar esta película en español
This movie was a mental scar. I just remembered it and I wish I hadn't.
I thought i lt was just my dream. But it is actually a movie.
Creative leaf
In the description "Crystal" is spelt wrong.
One of my favorite movies of all time which is funny because I hate most of Neil Gaimen's work and most people hate this movie hahah.
Needs more Fish... Dave. Löl
5:00 shuba shuba
And I thought Mark Twain's Adventure and Return to Oz were weird and disturbing..
I'm lost, someone help me.
Maybe watching the movie will help…its free on UA-cam rn
Why don't you mention who the music artist is?
With the focus on the visuals Magical Motion Museum may sometimes forget to give credits for music (or writing and acting). In this case the music is definitely prominent enough tot mention in the description, so it's there now.
magicalmotionmuseum
Yea I just think that artists should always be credited regardless. Thanks.
+Triangulove I wonder why yous ask such question ^^
Dame Louve Catherine Kuramoto
Because the artist should always be credited out of respect to their creation!
+Triangulove You're right, artists should get their credits. However, these excerpts can be compared to movie trailers, where you probably wouldn't want to see a complete credit roll that takes longer than the shown footage. And full credit lists would be a bit too much text to place in the video description. Possibly a link to the information on imdb.com e.g. should be added whenever there are too many contributors to mention. Magical Motion Museum will probably feature such referrals in the future.
wait this movie was real?
So... Planescape: The Movie?
Very
Bardzo fajny lecz moim zdaniem niedoceniony film🫶👍
the movie is just as weird as it seems
i wish i could see the charm in this film. it just looks like someone was being trippy for the sake of being trippy.
if you ask me Beetlejuice looked better and it's older
It was just about my favorite movie for most of my teens. I never thought of it as trippy at all, but more of just an interesting interpretation of how dreams work. And idk, it's has a very cozy feel, portraying just this one person's mind and their struggle with identity, family and social disconnect.
Also the jazz soundtrack is great.
A movie about mental Illness pretty much
The fuck
In couple of weeks mr McKean will visit Belgrade based convention called Beocon. I'll go there and ask him for the phone number of his drug dealer.
wtf.....
I *LOVE* how bad this is..
Nope nope nope
this movie was super bland and I can hardly remember anything about the story except that the sidekick guy was kind of annoying
but oh man is it ever cool to look at
o_o_o_o_o o_o_o_o_o 2 years late, but watching this as a kid is fucking weird. ive been looking for this for like a year? literally all i remembered in detail was her eating a fruit by the end lmao.
3 years late but I think sidekick dude was supposed to be annoying I mean he did betray her for wealth
