I’m sure the delivery driver wasn’t bothered at all by the thing he was delivering. He was just confused about delivering an industrial barrel to a house. I am glad that it was unloaded and handled safely.

I think Numi needs an adult to run these ideas by before telling them to chat. I deliver 55 gallon oil barrels (or "drums") and you need a rotating barrel cart and a spigot. A cart just to move such a thing, and a rotating one so you can flip it on its side with the spigot in its bunghole (holes in barrels are called "bungholes" it's a real word) to have a *LUBE FAUCET* in your garage.
This was like putting your hand on a hot stove and blaming the stove 😆
I ordered a 55 gallon container of 99% isopropyl alcohol, it's crazy how different the container is, it's a big plastic box with a steel frame around it and a spigot near the bottom.
@@Wearywastrel Yeah they call those a "liquid tote" or "intermediate bulk container" (what's intermediate about them? No idea!) they can be used for all sorts of things including food grade and you can even stack them,which is neat if you have a forklift to move it with and a royal pain to move if you don't. (also I don't think they qualify as an excuse to say "bunghole" in the workplace,real bummer)

Going for the 500lb $6000 55 gallon barrel of water based lubricant certainly resulted in a funnier story than the economical option of 20kg of unmixed water based lubricant powder for around $1000.

As someone who works with barrels like this (motor oil, not lube), there are two ways for you to move it. 1) if it is still on a pallet, rent a pallet jack. It’s like the prongs of forklift attached to a stick with a handle on it. If moving it to a backyard, rent one with large wheels. Expect difficulties. 2) specialized barrel hand-trucks (I don’t know if the term is used everywhere or not) exist to specifically move barrels like this. Just search for a barrel hand truck, it is going to be super expensive (~$200-$500US to buy) and look over the top, it’s not, your going to need all the little bits and bobs.
I wish you luck. God speed and for the love of God, wear a pair of goggles if you go through with this. Those poor water guns are going to get so clogged.
I suggest buying a hand cranked fluid pump and a hose for moving the liquid. And oil barrel pump (~$20-$80US) would work the best. Don’t skimp here. It would make loading the balloons, pool, and maybe water guns so much easier and safer than dumping the lube out. If lucky you can use it to put the lube back in the barrel when your done.
A pallet jack would probably be the easiest way to move the barrel around. An equipment rental place should have them. For those unfamiliar, a pallet jack is a cart with forks that insert into a pallet like a forklift, you pump a lever a couple times, and the pallet is lifted up and able to be wheeled around easily.
government surplus sites/auctions usually offload them for like $50 a piece.
What's next someone's going to gift to her a forklift?
that was my first thought. The only issue is I think she can only move it within her garage. So if she wants to move it anywhere else she needs flat surfaces as I don't think you can go over bumps or up or down slopes very well. But I guess if she gets help then even going up and down slopes could be possible.

Hey numi you mentioned at one point the issue of moving the barrel the best way to do it without equipment is roll it on the edge of the bottom by tilting it slightly and turning it at the same time it's easiest if you are two people
I've done this with kegs (not beer, industrial ethanol for a lab), and it was way smaller. A 500 pound barrel is going to be really rough to move this way, any surface other than concrete is going to get damaged bad, and if it knocks into a corner, you can chip concrete.
Also if the people doing it aren't used to it, it's uh. Dangerous. A slip will crush your foot.

On pallet it is not that much, and barrel with that size is for example 880 mm high and 571mm wide.
Dolly that has the barrel strap. Super easy to move then. Can be hard going up stairs.

Sell it by the bottle. Repack the lube by 500ml and 1liter bottles. Make a simple logo with your name on it. Sell to friends family and chat. Compute how many liters is the cost then sell per bottle with a dollar or 2 higher than what the computation per bottle.... That way you dispose it and profit to buy things you can use for chat both yt ans twitch.
Or maybe use the lube for a irl challenge. Your smart enough to think about what challenge to do.

This just made my Friday night Numi thanks! As someone who has had to move these kinda drums for work, you can tip it just a bit, then you can walk it to a corner or some out of the way place until you need it. Im only 5'9" you dont need to be a big guy to get these things around.

Those drums are actually really handy. My dad sells then to a lot of people for a variety of uses. Most people will use the metal ones for grills/smokers and the plastics get used for rain water collection, animal feeding troughs, or dog houses

Get a bunch of round logs e.g. the handle sticks for brooms (made of wood preferrably, since plastic is often hollow and tends to break). Then you just have to slightly tilt the pallet with the barrel to get the sticks below there, which should be possible with 2 people. and then you should be able to roll it over the logs. Just make sure the pallet slits are perpendicular to the logs/broom handles. On the offchance a lifting jack fits below there, you might as well try that.
