  • The Domaine-Thomson Wines’ cellar door sits on a natural platform above the vines with panoramic views across the vineyard and Cromwell Basin to Lake Dunstan. Surrounded by mountain ranges, the image is of a classic Central Otago landscape.
The building architecture is inspired by local, historical buildings from the era of John Turnbull Thomson, chief surveyor of Otago in the mid-1800s and celebrated in the name of our wine. His era was the humble structures of gold miners and farmers who created shelter from readily available, simple materials. Like the terroir of the wine, the building profile honours this legacy by featuring corrugated iron roofs and walls, a lean-to porch and galvanised sheet chimneys.
    Videography by Paul Brandon Films.

I like it. I have questions though, The Chimney breast usually helps to heat the room also, having it separated from the main structure suley negate that.
The Loose wooden floor, can't really get my head around that look of loose and noisy floor and cleaning it etc.
The folded corrugated is a nice detail.

The mountain ranges most likely had Māori names, that were most likely ignored or unknown to Thomson so he *renamed them. A bit silly to think a man who arrived WELL after Māori was able to name them... Quite silly, really.
