    Self studying for aws ccp (prob going to do exam next week) and then plan to use acloudguru for architect, going to get the cert, start making my own projects to show experience gains + market myself, will do security on acloud a short while after (will put in resumes and LinkedIn that I'm actively working towards it though). Anything else you think I can do? I watch this video once a day to keep me motivated. Thanks for the help in direction, want to use my time as efficiently as possible.

I just got a "scholarship" of sorts into a community college that offers free certifications and I've been really struggling with which one to pursue. In the past one of my relatives kept suggesting CCNA (he has CCNP and has been doing the career for 20 years), but after watching your videos and many others, I'm thinking it's not worth it.
    I'm stuck trying to decide between these options: CCNA, CompTIA cysa+, red hat certified system admin, and AWS certified solutions architect. I have no previous tech experience and no college degree whatsoever. I just cant make up my mind on which to pursue!

    @Jacob: I don't know why I can't see your comment, I wrote a long reply here it is again, hope you can see it: Thanks for the feedback mate, I really appreciate it.
    your career path is absolutely fantastic and you did all the right things! For SIEMs, I do find that experience is a lot more important than certs, so you can get your hands dirty with Splunk certifications if you want to, but if you have a lab and practice Splunk (for example) that's enough and I don't believe you'll need more certs for SIEM.
    The thing with SIEM is that you need to use to create "detection rules", so the more you know about attacks the better, SANS GCFA is a fantastic cert as it can take you through the attacks methodoly, or SANS GCIH, while they're not SIEM certs, they do give you a good understanding of what a defender do.
    I know SIEM specialists who make big $$$ and they don't have any certs, but they have experience that they can show and they can hit the ground running, it's an excellent area. Look up jobs titled "Cyber Detection Engineer" or SIEM.
    I wouldn't bother with CompTIA as they're geared toward beginners. If you want something general with the best return on investment then get the CISSP done (if you can tolerate the boring content!)
    Hope this helps
    😃

      Hey there, love your videos. Can you critic my path to becoming an entry level Information Security Analyst? I have 3 year internships of IT, graduated in MIS, starting at a Big4 for Cybersecurity consulting out of college as a cyber consultant I plan to get hands-on experience with SIEMs at this big4 job, get my Security+ and Network+ within 1-2 years, while also being able to work on Cloud projects. Before my Security+ expires (not that it matters, but might as well), get the CySa+ in year 3 to renew the Security+ as well as add another cert to compliment my experience. I will probably stick to CompTia certs and only obtain these specific certs from Comptia, then maybe move onto SSCP or so since Cloud+ and CASP+ in Comptia don't even seem looked at. As you said, avoid Cisco certs. I am wanting to get a job that uses SIEMs, but very little coding/pen-testing as I do not really feel like I'm that good at it. I think Cloud+ and those other Certs by Comptia are super useless. I will see how I like Cloud after my first project and whether or not it's for me.

    There are a lot of cyber security channels out there but I really like your short and to the point videos with zero fluff.
    I have just now pivoted to a cyber security role after over two decades as a Sys Admin and then as a hands-on IT Manager. It is pretty much the perfect pivot as there is a huge maturity uplift required and I will be the sole person that will need to improve everything from introducing technical controls all the way up to GRC through alignment with the Australian PSPF.
    I'm very montivated and in the years to come I want to maintain my lead over the less experienced individuals entering the industry. In terms of defence, I assume a natural progression career and money-wise is to focus on GRC or Security Architect? I do prefer technical decision making but I know there are some crazy salaries but those are often down in Canberra.
    I have a CISM and will probably start on the CISSP soon.
    Please keep posting these great videos. I'm sure your channel will keep growing.

    • @UnixGuy
      @UnixGuy 2 роки тому +5

      Thanks mate I appreciae the kind words! your background is the perfect background for cyber security and you will do great things!
      Since you mentioned PSPF, I assume it's a government organisation, I will always recommend starting with the Essential 8 and prioritising them - you would be surprised how many organisation fail at implementing them. They will give you the best bang for your buck! From there you will probably need to create a compliance program using the ISM which is fairly comprehensive
      As for certs, your track is good, I did CISM and never bothered with CISSP as I'm in management and there seem to be a point of diminishing returns with certs. CISSP seem to have the best return on investment so you can't go wrong with that.
      Your observation is correct, there is big money in GRC and architecture so get your hands wet in there but if you find it boring or you don't enjoy it, you can always do something else and there is big money in anything in cyber if you're good. I know someone who is so good of a security analyst (incident response), he is a lead SOC analyst and then he moved to Head of SecOps, he is still hands on but make the big bucks, so you don't have to do GRC or Architecture for money, there are many avenues. (same thing with penetration testing btw..).

    HELP! I watched your videos and I’m trying to build a roadmap to cloud computing. I have no experience in IT and I’m wondering which certs are necessary and which are fluff for my journey. So far it seems I will need an OS cert like Linux +, then basic coding skills like a Python cert then fundamentals like a CompTIA networking cert, and cloud essentials cert. My question is what’s necessary in your opinion? Do I need the CompTIA A+, Network +, Security +, Project +, Cloud+, Cloud Essentals, then cloud +, then cloud practitioner and move up the associates to pro to specialist ladder? Or is this too much? Hi Sir,
    Firstly, thank you for your youtube videos and sharing your knowledge on Cybersecurity and cloud.
    I'm from India, I recently joined as international student for master's in Information security and privacy at University of Calgary, Canada. I hope to get into cloud security after I graduate. Courses are around GRC, ethical hacking, network security in the curriculum.
    My question is,
    Which kind entry-level or mid roles are usually open for cloud security jobs. I also have 1.5 years of experience as an SRE ?
    What would you suggest me to focus more in depth in my graduate?
    I currently have GCP- associate cert, so would you suggest me to take CCSP or go with GCP security cert first?
    I am asking lot of questions, I'm sorry but actually I'm confused and overwhelmed. Any suggestions from you would be really helpful.
    Thank you

      hey mate, thanks for your kind words! I say focus on your masters degree and learn as much as possible.
      There are many roles, it could be cloud support analyst or information security analyst. It doesn’t matter which certification you do first, I’d say do both. I’d personally go GCP first because it has more handson, but CCSP is great as well

    Hi Im holding CTIA, Comptia Sec+ and writing blogs about cloud security on medium. But still couldn't get any interview on cloud security engineering position. Maybe that's because of my location ://

    • @UnixGuy
      @UnixGuy 2 роки тому +1

      Whats your location? There is a lot that goes into hiring other than certificates. It's CV/ Interview skills, but most of all is experience. The courses I recommended here in the video, if you do them you will need to do hands-on lab based exercises, which will give you hands-on exposure. This is what employers look for, they need to know that you can do the work. If you're passionate about Cloud, follow the plan in the video and I can promise you that your chances of getting a cloud security job will improve ten fold

      I don’t have capacity to do one on one mentorships, you’ll find most of the information that you need in the videos (please watch them) and if you still require further help then I have a paid mentorship call (link in the about section of this youtube channel) 🙂
