For Tommy John, he should have played 3 more mediocre years and hurt his arm enough so he couldn't lift a pencil after retirement to get those 12 wins he needed to get to 300. He might as well had a record of 4 and 8242343524362 to the writers. Just like McGriff.

    • @SconnerStudios
      @SconnerStudios Рік тому

@@mikekinsella2822 Exactly. The writers never seem to add qualitative factors into consideration, only those numbers that have to reach certain milestones, not 3 hits or strikeouts short of the certain milestones. Remember that Jackie goddamn Robinson almost didn't get in his first ballot (though a few no votes were probably due to racism). Larry Doby didn't get elected until 1998.
There should be a fan vote where fans elect 1 player every year who receives the most votes if the writers fail to elect anyone. So players like Curt Schilling or Carlos Beltran don't waste ballot space for 10 years because writers are petty and dumb. If the writers want to submit a blank ballot and write a "journalism" article on why they're so stunning and brave for not voting anyone, fine, but don't punish it for the rest of us. There's no point in even having a hall of fame if there isn't at least someone inducted every year.

I think one of the biggest names that your list is missing is Lefty O'Doul. 5th all time for Career batting average .349 .413 on base (32nd all time) and .532 slg (50th all time) ops .945 (27th). Sure it was only an 11 year career, but you know what else he did? He introduced baseball to Japan. The Tokyo Giants are named such because Lefty last played for the New York Giants. I've been emailing numerous writers over the years saying Tommy John belongs there as I did for Jack Morris & Jim Kaat until they got in. Munson definetly needs to get in. He was the backbone of the great 70s Yankee teams. If Belle had his father's personality he would have gotten in. I heard his dad was a well liked coach years ago. Seems numerous players such as Cone aren't in because they had short stints with several teams. Noticed also that some players who spent a good portion of their careers playing for a Canadian or Florida teams teams get overlooked.

I must disagree on your comment regarding Munson being a Hall Of Famer. True, he was on the same line as Bench & Fisk during the '70's, however, he didn't play long enough to be inducted. The only player who played fewer seasons & was inducted was old time pitcher Addie Joss, who put up numbers that stand to this day.

      Orioles fan here:
Thurman Munson, what a great Yankee. A bit before I became a fan, but he was a game-changer, hands down. Hell, I cried watching the UA-cam game in 1979 that was his memorial as it was a very painful thing to watch: 55,000 plus fans, and players all mourning together, shared grief over a true leader, and you could see that with tears everywhere you looked....
Team leader and on the field general, plus he put up with George Steinbrenner, and THAT ALONE should give him first ballot HOF.
I used to say there is a reason why some players do not make the HOF, Munson's snub is arguably one of the most egregious.

Anyone who intentionally cheats the game (I DO NOT give a damn if it's always been part of the game, it's STILL cheating, and "cheating is cheating, just like, cheating is cheating"), DOES NOT deserve enshrinement with the immortals. Love your videos! As a Kansas Citian and Royals fan, just wanted to point out that Coney won the Cy Young in 1994 with KC (Cone and Kevin Appier a really underrated 1-2 punch of the era). Agree he had an underratedly great career and needs more Hall consideration. One of the worst trades in Royals history was trading young, Kansas City native and childhood Royals fan David Cone to the Mets for Ed Hearn, and then after getting him back in free agency, we doubled down on it after the Kauffmans (original owners) died and money dried up by sending him to the Blue Jays right after winning the Cy Young for Chris Stynes. And for the record I'm a lifelong YANKEE fan. On my first game at Fenway in 1975 I saw Evans throw out Roy White TWICE !!! Once going from first to third on a single to right. And a couple of innings later White going from 2nd base to home. And Roy White was a damn good baserunner. That performance alone should have Dwight in Cooperstown. 😂

Best deal would have paid off his gambling debts, kept him out of prison, and eventually allowed him in. His constant lies hurt him as well. Widely known even during the 70's he was a heavy gambler. Rose also signed the agreement banning him forever. Rose thought he was bigger than baseball. And I like Rose as a player. It is not just one thing keeping him out. But the one thing they all have in common is Rose is at center of them. Other players former and current tried helping him get in. And he spit in their faces.

@charlesdoyle3630 Yes, but if the HOF already has steroid users as members (some say Ivan Rodriguez, Bagwell, and Raines are. I personally don't know because I wasn't there.) then they don't care enough to keep rule breakers out and should tear up any agreement with Rose and let him in. I have also heard that they are waiting until after he dies to just let him in without him being there. But that would be very petty on MLBs part. I'm not excusing Rose or anyone else. I just don't think it's fair that MLB gets to turn a blind eye to steroid use because of the McGwire/Bonds/Sosa HR races bringing in all those ratings, but when it suits them, they go after Pete Rose for gambling. Go after every known rule breaker or let them all walk. The rules should be enforced fairly for all. Just my .02 cents.

Orel not being in is just ridiculous
Doc should be in just for His 1st 5 years alone they were so amazing

Mini top 5 of players you’ve yet to talk about in this series that I think are snubs
Bill Dahlen: 20 year career before WW1
Graig Nettles: Advanced Statistics Darling, and at a position in need of more representation in Cooperstown.
Ken Boyer: For example! This guy is an 11 time all star, 5 time gold Glover, and won an MVP, yet he has no plaque? What’s the BBWAA’s beef with 3rd Baseman? Him, Sal Bando, Graig Nettles, Dick Allen, and Buddy Bell are all huge snubs, and all at the same position!
Dave Steib: He is both the best starting pitcher of the 80s, and the single greatest Blue Jay in franchise history, yet he’s not in the Hall!
Bobby Abreu: I will die fighting to get him in, I don’t care. Nearly batted for a career .300 .400 .500 during the Steroid Era while being clean. He’s 20th on the all time walk list and also stole 400 bags. Hall of Famer, without question.

I agree he doesn't have 300 wins l believe he has 179 but the impact he made to the game of baseball and to the city will never be matched especially after the Dodgers finally beat those dam Yankees in 1981 after loosing back to back in 1977 and 1978 to the Yanks without him and not to mention not only did the Dodgers beat the Yankees in 1981 but Fernando won the CY young award and rookie of the year he had career 2074 strikeouts 1 Gold Glove award, , 2 Silver Slugger awards and 7 all star appearances.

Carlos Beltran was one of my favorite players to watch growing up. His career is definitely HOF worthy. It's a shame what he was involved in though. I was honestly about to go on a rant about you defending Beltran until you mentioned the part where everyone was doing it and this was in his final season of his MLB career. And the mere fact that Cora and Hinch still have a job is saying something about "consistency".
For David Cone, aside from all the stats you mentioned, he was one of the true big game pitchers in the playoffs. There is no denying it.
Appreciate you giving respect to Orel Hershiser. It's a shame that his run of pitching dominance didn't last long due to injuries and lack of run support in LA.
How Carlos Delgado made only 2 All star teams was surprising.
You hit the nail on the head for Thurman Munson. His HR numbers aren't great, but he was the main force in the Yankees' 70s titles.
And Dwight Evans, 3x All Star, 8x Gold Glove award. People today quickly forget the cannon of an arm he had in right field. 385 home runs, nearly 2,500 hits, and his longevity was highly impressive.

    2769 hits (over 500 doubles).
    .284 BA.
    Above .350 OBP.
    Over 400 stolen bags.
Career .988 fielding percentage with a good amount played in CF.
    Multiple WS rings.
Longevity wise he was durable and dependable, making every team he was a part of better with his presence.

If Willie Mays were a young prospect today, he'd be forced to gain 25 pounds and play right field, he'd never steal, bunt, tag when dangerous. I like to make a case for Willie McGee. He doesn't have the home runs a lot of outfielders have, but he does have:
    1984 MVP
    4x All-Star
    3 Gold Gloves
    1 Silver Slugger
    4 World Series, 1 win
2 NL Batting Titles during Tony Gwynn's prime
Over 2200 hits with 350 stolen bases
Not a bad resumé for a guy most people think of as a role player just because he was quiet and didn't have many homers, but he did have lots of doubles, triples, and stolen bases. Compare him to guys like Scott Rolen, Alan Trammell, Bill Mazeroski...

Yet he’s not in the hall of fame. They certainly love him, but not enshrined. For his run as a Dodger I think he should be in just like Orel Hershiser. What do you guys think? I know once he left L. I'd encourage you to not lean so heavy on WAR and JAWS. Most of your snubs are now Era Committee fodder, and those committees are comprised mostly of old players who generally take a dim view of analytics, because they are aware of a truth that the Sabermetrics community are hopelessly blind to: that it is entirely impossible, because baseball is a game of countless intangibles that cannot be quantified by some equation, to create a system of any kind to judge the overall worth of a player.

I mean, if Carlos Beltran gets in, then someone else who is almost as good as him gets in, and the standard keeps dropping. Let's make all you armchair sports writers and historians happy! Just put in everybody who has 10 plus years and has a decent career in the Hall. It's already watering down the special-ness of the institution. It feels weird adding carlos beltran to the snubs list when its only year one (of the record of this video). I would consider a snub as s player who was on the ballot for years and made no traction or a one and done player. 40% year one isn't bad and 57% year two shows that he's on a hall of fame projection. Saying hes a snub because hes not a first ballot HOFer makes no sense to me
