It can be hard to first process what side the person is on and then figure out based on that what side to move to. Just say “move to the right!” and they’ll probably fare better

Once I went to Mt. Selwin and I couldn't get my skis on (snow was trapped in my boots) so I had to walk down the hill, while walking a snowboarder noticed and asked me if I want a ride I said yes and he helped me down the hill
If it's a kid, don't say a direction. I can guarantee their mind hears the warning as though it's a direction, since they're so frequently being told what to do in school and by parents. "Go left" is what they hear when you say "Passing on the left". "Passing on your right!" Becomes "Get to your right side." Best thing to do is leave a good 5 seconds after saying it for the kid to figure out *what* you said and what *they* need to do. Takes much longer for them to work out these things.
Telling the direction you're coming from must be an American thing, in Germany I've never heard anyone shouting a direction while overtaking me - neither while skiing, riding an e-bike/bicycle, or skating. I think that would somehow confuse me too.
With kids it's often easier to say "stay left" then pass on the right. You're right about processing times, kids are usually learning so concentrating on way more than the adults. It doesn't help that "on your right" means "go left", takes a few milliseconds to decode unless you're used to it.

As a skier I can say most snowboarders are very chill, cool, and respectful of others space. However sometimes they can be aggressive
@@henrysskiing From a snowboarder’s perspective most of the time we’re not trying to be aggressive, more often than not it’s the catwalk/path isn’t wide enough for us to slow down or if we do slow down we get stuck. I’ve seen and experienced skiers misunderstand this and cut off or shove snowboarders off the path. Both sides need to understand one another is all
Once I went to Mt. Selwin and I couldn't get my skis on (snow was trapped in my boots) so I had to walk down the hill, while walking a snowboarder noticed and asked me if I want a ride I said yes and he helped me down the hill
I’m a snowboarder and I am not like this at all, I’ve actually experienced more aggressive skiers than snowboarders.

If it's a kid, don't say a direction.
I can guarantee their mind hears the warning as though it's a direction, since they're so frequently being told what to do in school and by parents.
"Go left" is what they hear when you say "Passing on the left". "Passing on your right!" Becomes "Get to your right side."
Best thing to do is leave a good 5 seconds after saying it for the kid to figure out *what* you said and what *they* need to do. Takes much longer for them to work out these things.
Telling the direction you're coming from must be an American thing, in Germany I've never heard anyone shouting a direction while overtaking me - neither while skiing, riding an e-bike/bicycle, or skating.
I think that would somehow confuse me too.
With kids it's often easier to say "stay left" then pass on the right. You're right about processing times, kids are usually learning so concentrating on way more than the adults. It doesn't help that "on your right" means "go left", takes a few milliseconds to decode unless you're used to it.

true, I have trouble processing things I hear if it’s a command or said quickly.
I’d rather just be told which way to go rather than which way to avoid.

Я однажды разогналась и въехала в спину другому лыжнику. Наши лыжи перекрестились, скрость была большая + удвоенный вес. Мы так и катились со склона, но он каким-то образом сумел переставить ногу, никто не упал, и мы разъехались. У меня были лыжи из проката Dynastar , они были очень хорошо смазаны, так что я обгоняла всех, но кататься толком не умела )))) Спасибо тому чуваку, что устоял и был невозмутим 😂
