The purring in the beginning….the beautiful designed knitwear and the horrific bus story (I would have LOST it at that point😅)-I enjoyed this so much. Glad you’re home!
I loved hearing Luna purring at the beginning 😻. I love your designs, and your pattern writing is very clear. I admit I was nervous when just looking at your patterns but I went for it and have completed my first lace top with the Sunkissed top, and am now working on my first all over cable sweater with the Billie pullover. Definitely boosting my confidence as a knitter. Thank you 🙏.
I'm so glad you enjoyed La Mercerie. It's one of my favorite shops. I live in Virginia, near Washington, DC, on the East Coast. But my grown daughter lives in Seattle and my best friend since 1969 lives on Bainbridge Island. I visit there at least once a year. The next time you get stuck in Tacoma you MUST visit the glass museum. The last time I was there I saw an exhibit of knitting with glass. It was amazing! I was able to buy your book from my local yarn shop here (Fibre Space in Alexandria, VA). They also ran out when they first got it and had to re-order. I love the book. Not sure what to knit from it first. It all looks so great! I hope you had a wonderful time in Madrid! I hope you do another class on Bainbridge or somewhere near me on the East Coast. I'd love to get inspired by you in person!
You got a LOT done during your travels! It was great meeting you and taking your classes at La Mercerie and seeing you again at VKL. I’m still working on my socks and beanie, but also getting super excited about casting on one of your Mila designs!
wow you are a world traveler now, you have come a long way. I started watching you from the beginning and now you are the queen of cables. Your patterns are wonderful.
Hi Sari, enjoying hearing your stories of your travels. Luna is gorgeous and loved her purring. Your knits are stunning and you have inspired me to start knitting cables. Much love from Shetland
I just visited La Merceri yesterday and it was really as amazing as you described. The staff were so helpful, kind and inviting right from the moment you step into the store. They do sell online as well. I enjoy your patterns and they are so well written that I feel comfortable trying new or more complex designs that are new to me. Thank you.
Don’t worry about your french prononciation I could easily understand! Love that Luna was purring almost all of the video! Love your knits and aesthetics. I am currently working on the Rivendell, only one sleeve to go!
I'm excited for more cardigan patterns! I've been wanting to knit more cardigans this year since I find myself reaching for them more. I love all your cable and lace designs! The only "difficult" part is having to pay attention to the pattern but its not hard at all! You just have to knit slower! I find audiobooks are better companions for knitting than Netflix. Another wonderful episode, thank you for sharing your makes and travels Sari! So glad you had a great time and made it home safely! I hope you can get to Portland one day! You definitely need more than a day trip to enjoy the hidden gems of that city.
So sorry your Portland trip was such a mess, but I was so happy to meet you at Vogue! I look forward to seeing your basic designs. I love both wandering Flock and Camilla Fiber Co. yarns! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Sari, I am so glad you had a great time on the west coast, too bad you did not make it to Portland. I thought of you, cus up a bit further North we had our winter storm with snow, and I thought what a bummer the weather was so bad when you were here. I can wait for cardigans and I ❤ all your new designs you. Shared! 😊 Have fun in Madrid. Lucky you are a knitter, or the train/ bus fiasco would have been twice as bad!
So beautiful everything, the designs, the knits, the yarns. I like wearing cardigans because it´s easy to take off if it´s too warm and vice versa. So I´m looking forward to your cardigan designs. Mila cardigan looks great of course and the Mila pullover: that yarn is amazing and that colourway is so so beautiful. There was so much inspiration on this podcast, thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing your adventures in the United States. I really enjoyed this podcast. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished Book Club Cardigan- I love that name for this pattern- can’t wait for the test knit call and release of the pattern. Have a great day
Hello Sari! So nice to see a recap of your trip! My sister Lolly and my neighbor Carol and I loved our classes with you! And it was such a pleasure to meet you! So sorry you didn't make it to Portland! Such a bad experience! I love the new Ballard sweater. It's going on my queue! Thanks for all the inspiration and information! We'd love to have you visit our beautiful peninsula sometime for a relaxing retreat here at the foot of the Olympic National Park!
I bought my copy of Sari's new book at the Wooly Thistle in the U.S. Love it, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming simpler designs and the cardigans in 2024.
I'm so sorry you had to experience the wretched Amtrak system. I have been in that situation and it's just embarrassing how bad it is. I lived in Portland for years and can tell you, Iceland Air can go from Reykjavik to Portland in like 7-8 hours. I loved your cat showing up and stealing scenes with her purring.
Hi again - you mentioned your love of Brooklyn Tweed and I'm wondering if you've ever designed anything with either Loft or Shelter in mind. I just completed a stranded sweater in BT Shelter and really love the light weight but very cozy feel of it. Although I enjoy adding a strand of mohair to other yarns, I hesitate to do that with BT as I don't like to hide it's own beauty in any way!
Greetings, @SariNordlund, I feel so very lucky to have discovered this podcast! I found it the day before Valentine's Day at 11:00pm so I must finish watching it in full tomorrow. I got up to the point where you said you stayed in Ballard, I do agree that is an adorable neighborhood of Seattle and I hope you were welcomed with open arms, we are so lucky to be able to host you in the US! I have a sweater pattern of yours I hope to start on now that my order from Knitting for Olive has arrived to me in the US (so grateful!) and I am in the midst of working on your utterly lovely Summer Solstice Socks. Speaking of the Summer Solstice Socks, I found what I believe to be a tiny error in the pattern. I think I tried to let you know about it (not sure where I wrote to, possibly Ravelry, possibly Instagram) but if you could tell me the best place to communicate this, I would be happy to try again. Thank you for all of the yarny joy! I hope you loved your time in the US and are now safely back, and cozy, in Finland. Such a sweet kitty. --Andrea Miller (xraymd on Ravelry) P.S. I have now watched this lovely video in its entirety and wanted to ask - do you think you might make a plan to do an online class (for purchase) in cables and in lace? Now that I have been working on the Summer Solstice Socks, I would dearly love to learn more from you and for now it would most likely need to be on line. Thank you, Sari!
You visited my homestate. I have lived in Virginia for four years. Quite a difference. I am sorry you had to experience canceled trains, awful bus experience and didn't make it to Portland. The train system in the Pacific Northwest is not the greatest, but such a beautiful trip when running. Love the name of your sweater "Ballard" and glad you made it over to Bainbridge Island.
Thank god for knitting when busses are breaking down….. 😅🥳🙏💞 But I’m sorry you didn’t make it to Portland, it would have been great to hear more about Brooklyn Tweed. I don’t think anyone here in Sweden is selling it either.
I love ALL your knits and have had the pleasure of knitting a few. The patterns are so well written. I love lace and looking forward to knitting the Laulu. Looks like it is Knitting for Olive merino and mohair, I’m going to go ahead and purchase the yarn. Do you have any idea when it will be released? Your cat is adorable and loves you so much, I loved the purring. Looking forward to the next podcast, enjoy your trip.
Oi voi, Luna varasti ison osan showsta, vaikka oli näkymättömissä 😍 Kiitos matkakuulumisten jakamisesta - harmi, että Portland ja Brooklyn Tweed jäi sinulta näkemättä ja kokematta. Minullakin on tälle vuodelle suunnitelmissa panostaa neuletakkeihin, kiva nähdä mitä ihanuuksia meille tarjoilet!
Oh yes, ALL of those things and more can go wrong on Amtrak in a single day. It’s a national embarrassment. I’m so sorry that on top of the equipment problems you received such poor customer service. From here, La Mercerie is a ferry ride across to the Olympic Peninsula and an hour or so drive down to Bainbridge Island - and it’s now on my must-see list!
When designing a cardigan with cables that is going to have patch pockets with cables, do you make a section of the front where the pockets will be in stockinette so you don't have a double layer of cables?
Hi sari nice podcast I have a question for you. I am not a beginner knitter but never made cable and would like to start…. I would like to make one of your pattern for the first time. I already did colour work and some Stich pattern ( Ingrid sweater, storm sweater) but will be the first to really go unto cable what do you suggest?
Please stay with your gorgeous design aesthetic! Your designs stand out splendidly among a sea of basic designs. ❤️
Love the purring on the background. 😻😭
The purring in the beginning….the beautiful designed knitwear and the horrific bus story (I would have LOST it at that point😅)-I enjoyed this so much. Glad you’re home!

Wow, all those beautiful sweaters. Thank you for a brilliant podcast you are a great inspiration for all of us that love classical knitwear.
Such gorgeous knits and wonderful coverage of your many recent adventures in the U.S.! Thank you so much!

Love the beret…perfect.

A suggestion for the leftover yarn from the Laulu Pullover is a matching laulu headband or some sort of hair accessory!

Love your kitty.
I love the Alvar. it is in my queue. Your patterns are so creative and beautiful. (And your English is so fluent, do not worry.)

I love hearing Luna's purring in the background.
Luna is so precious! Is she a Scottish straight or a British shorthair? She purrs like our old cat Sumi who was a Scottish fold. So adorable!

the focus is looking at the cat or dog face on the cabinet
