    I've been hooked on your videos for a couple weeks now and subscribed to your channel. I discovered a site in the far eastern coastal plain of NC a little over a year ago and have dug over 90 broken and unbroken points there. It's just a wind-blown sand dune in the back of a farm field that is about 4-5ft higher than the rest of the field. Went up there metal detecting one day and saw flakes all over the place and within ten minutes found my first point, which was a Guilford. I was hooked! The only thing I really envy about your site is the quality of the materials the ancients used out there. It's all so beautiful. Where I live, there are absolutely no natural rocks so when you find a stone you know it had to be brought there by someone. Most the points I find are made of Rhyolite, tuff, and quartz. I've only found a few that were made from actual chert. I'd be so happy to find some larger points like the points hanging in cases on your wall. The biggest thing I've dug was a 6" hand axe and the longest complete point I've found was right at about 3 and a half" long. Some of those big beauties on your wall are extraordinary! The ancients here worked a lot of small river cobble, so the larger points are pretty rare to find. If I could only find one as big as some of yours, I'd be happy as can be. God Bless you Sir and keep at it!

      Thanks so much my roots are in western NC I have some quartz points from there. Most of my collection is from Florida I moved there right out of high school for work. But I grew up here in Tennessee where I’m at now. When I was able to retire I moved back. Sounds like you got a good site you’re working on. Take care brother and good luck and God bless you and your family

    .I am glad for your findings on this occasion my friend. Two beautiful pieces without a doubt. You can always miss something in the search, whatever it may be, digging, sifting, on the surface, but on the second inspection you can find things again. Blessings to my great friend.

    Hey Tiller, the Hidden Shelter keeps giving em up. Anytime you find a pinetree is good. Sifting that dirt is tough work but it keeps paying off. Hope you get on your bucks here soon. If I don't see anything from you before Christmas. Just want to say hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas my Friend, God bless👍

    The first point looks like a Stemed Kirk, a Pine Tree, and a Beaver Lake base. You're definitely on a old site, from Palio to Archaic. All you have to do is dig them up.

      I live in Northwest Alabama, in my area there is a very small rock shelter completely dug out in the 1960's. In the 1980's a group of local boys dug the bank in front of front of the shelter and found 70 more arrowhead.

    Nice saves tiller.. I still can’t believe that they are that deep!!! I don’t see how all that dirt got up in there?? That water must have flowed a ton more than it does now to deposit all that soil, of course you are talking up wards of hell 8,000 years old and who knows what was going on back then???? Just blows my mind!!! Just think of all the points that will never be found !!!!!!!!

    • @tillersartifactsappalachia1684
      @tillersartifactsappalachia1684  10 місяців тому

      Thanks Scott yeah I would say over 10000 years lots of debris and leaves has blown in there. And I think as there living space got so nasty they would cover there living quarters with dirt and debris to cover up the filth. Take care brother

    I find it interesting that this person seems to have read some archaeological reports and tries sounding informed with point type names and talks about layers, but he is destroying, looting the site of any significant information it might have been able to provide so that he can find the shiny bits. So sad that the history of your land is being ripped out of the ground that way.

    • @tillersartifactsappalachia1684
      @tillersartifactsappalachia1684  9 місяців тому +3

      lol what ignorance,there is no missing link archaeologists have excavated many rock shelters in Tn. Same cultures eating the same animals and plants using the same materials. Most of the artifacts found by them are packed away in a back room where no one can enjoy the artifacts. You must be a Biden supporter shame on you. Thanks for the view and comment support God bless

      Yes, I agree 100%.
      OK, to find what's on the surface, in a creek, or washed out.
      Digging up is something else.
      If he is a trained archaeologist, then it would be different.

    I’ve really been enjoying watching your videos. Wanted to let you know how thankful I am for you documenting your digs and collection of artifacts. It’s got me inspired to start doing some digging myself.
    I’ve recently scouted out a spot in the mountains located in Rabun county Georgia. It’s not a rock shelter but rather a granite outcrop on the top of a ridge. It’s one of the only granite outcrops on this particular mountain. It’s also located near a small ephemeral stream. From the layout of the land it looks to be an ideal place where primitive people would set up a hunting camp. Especially the way it sits on a ridge with a valley on either side and water near by.
    I found the spot a couple months ago while studying the area on Google Earth. Traveled out there last week. Takes about an hour to hike up to the spot because it’s completely off trail in the middle of nowhere. From the looks of it I’m the only one who’s been to this spot in probably 100 + years. Absolutely no evidence of anyone else excavating it for artifacts.
    Within a few hours of poking around the area I found three scraper tools and some flakes! As well, I noticed on some of the granite outcrop there was a couple spots that were rubbed smooth like tools were being sharpened on the large rocks.
    I was wondering if you or anyone you’re aware of has ever dug around a spot similar to this? Where there was no shelter or overhang, just a granite slab in the forest. The reason I ask is because I’m wondering if you think it would be worth while to haul up a shovel and sifter and excavate the area?
    I would appreciate any advice you could provide.

      Thanks brother I sure am glad you enjoy an ol hick like me digging in the dirt lol. It sounds like you may have stumbled across a camp site. I personally have never dug a spot like that but know of some that have. If you found some material and chipped pieces I would definitely do some digging. Just check your laws and if it’s state land I would not dig. Would love to know how you do take care and good luck God bless
