Fun history time... this was part of Amarillo’s first batch of sirens, purchased in 1956. They got two ‘bolts - this and the one that was once downtown, an STL at Carver Elementary, and some other stuff.
@dillonrockband There is a picture somewhere out there of this siren. You can hear another T-bolt and perhaps a Cyclone. Plus, this thing is really not mounted that high off of the ground.
That question comes up alot. We have ID all of the sirens in Amarillo and that are on the system. No P-50. We have asked the EMS director and he said there was never a P-50 on the system. The area looks like around here but believe me, we have looked everywhere. Wish it was here though. Thanks!!
@kdksiren uhhh is the film sped up? if it isn't it's certainly beats any Thunderbolt i ever saw lol great vid. my uncle lives in that city Amarillo TX. =]
@MrSciencetificsasuke Basically what everyone means by "chopper level" is the amount of power is being put to the thunderbolts chopper, like level 1 is 120 volts, while level 7 is 240 volts, quite simple actually.
@garyhstorms10 There's an 8 RPM 1000 somewhere in South Hutchinson, KS. Someone recently made a couple of system recordings where it can be heard. It's quite a bit lower pitched than this one.
@kdksiren Oh yeah I believe it, not too often you come across one set on 8rpm! I also love how it seems like all of Amarillo's Thunderbolts rotate counter-clockwise, or at least the ones we've seen so far do. Must all either be the old ones like the type that came off of the courthouse (Series A1), or just the 480V version, with the three-phase rotator motors.
@Midnight1XCoffee I am pretty sure that this siren was there long before 2001's were even thought of. But they do have the chopper set on a high level. Probabaly 7 or 8.
My mom used live in that area at 304A S. Tennessee Street I lost my mom to a Heart Attack in June of 2007 I miss my mom but I'll always remember the good times that I had with my Mom
@ArieskidChristian It actually is faster than the 8 that Federal says they go. The motor or pulley system may have been replaced. Who knows? Anyway still pretty cool to see.
@MrSciencetificsasuke There are different connections on the controller on the pole on a T-Bolt that will allow you to change the voltage to the chopper, thus this will change the pitch. It has nothing to do with the rotation of the horn. Just the sound or pitch level.
KDK Siren There's Unknown in the Amarillo Texas Tornado Siren Dept. a Whelen who would thought that a Whelen Would be the Answer there what siren did it replace
Look at that sucker go! That's an A1 series 1000, and it's rotating at 10 RPM's, not 8! Reminds me of the 500AT in Dundee, MI after they changed out the rotator gears.
Nice Thunderbolt Im starting a Siren Channel But my first Siren Test is gonna be in Harlem, GA Its a sterling Little Giant And since im new i want to know how to get a Good Capture and a good Spot to record the Test!
We started out a bit too close to our first recording. A Cyclone. Knowing how loud they are, you need to stay back several hundred feet. Find a parking lot or street with little traffic. Get there early. At first we just sat the tripod in the back of the truck. Learned that sometimes people come by wanting to know what we were doing. Learned to prop it between front door and left leg inside of truck and roll window down a ways just till it clears edge of view. Level it best you can. We are lucky that the test occurs at exactly 11:30 so turn on camera 1 minute before and wait. That's about it. Just have to scope out the area first and find a good spot. Don't wait till the last minute. Hope this helps. Best of Luck to you!!! Thanks for asking!
Haven't been by this siren in along time but last time I drove by it was still there. And I bet it's still running and spinning around like a top. Thanks!!!
I remember October 23, 2000 when Amarillo was hit by a tornado I was in Middle School at Travis Middle School I was in 8th Grade I was walking to 4th Period Art Class when I heard the Tornado Sirens By Travis Middle School starting going off then I started freaking out and my sister's Teacher for her 7th and 8th Grade years Starla Kelley told me to go in Officer Powers Office we'll Call Walt Starla called the EOC and they told there's a Tornado on the east side of Amarillo I started Going crazy and said My Mom was on that side of Town at the Truck Stops of America on I-40 and FM 1912 Starla dialed the Number I told her to dial for my Mom's Work and Ext. Mom answered the phone I said Mom Get Downstairs Right Now and if there's any Truckers outside and alert them of the storm. That day I saved my Mom and Truckers from being Hurt.
Reason: because these sirens do not have battery backup, these are dc sirens. 509’s on the other hand have battery back up which means these sirens are AC powered. That explains why.

I love this!! Also love the Cyclones, XT22 and STL-10 I hear in the background.
Amarillo don't have xt22 only 2t22's
@@CentralTexasSirens xt22 is the term for an unknown model of that particular siren
@@BRISTOLFORCE2009 I know I made this comment about 2 years ago lol.
@@CentralTexasSirens ok and that was hard to explain
I remember seeing this one in a picture awhile back. 8rpm is my favorite setting.
Damn she's truckin' it ain't she? LOL Great video Ben, love the ambiance too!

@dillonrockband There is a picture somewhere out there of this siren. You can hear another T-bolt and perhaps a Cyclone. Plus, this thing is really not mounted that high off of the ground.

Sweet! Sounds nearly like the Federal signal 2001
This literally has the same pitch as an STH-10

Great recording of this Tbolt-1000! It's rotating at 8RPMs at chopper level 8.
The chopper is at 5 not 8
@@CentralTexasSirens its 7

@kdksiren The old thunderbolt up my street sounds just like this one, And It's on 5! Probably a Six port?
If it’s Single tone then it’s 5 port
@kdksiren 6 or 7?
@MrSciencetificsasuke Basically what everyone means by "chopper level" is the amount of power is being put to the thunderbolts chopper, like level 1 is 120 volts, while level 7 is 240 volts, quite simple actually.
Awesome video. Looks like the horn is going to fly off.
Wow, they made a thunderbolt omnidirectional
Wow it’s actually a 6m thunderbolt 1000
Sweet another Amarillo thunderbolt video!
