The clan tried block off his escape routes and were spread out over many acres and didn't have to fight all of them all at once. It was also at night and he surprised the first group protecting the head of clan, who at that time was only 12. Once he cut down their best swordsmen, he battled small groups of men in the darkness. Musashi was also almost 6 feet tall when the average Japanese male was barely over 5 feet so he was much larger and stronger.
As one can see,,,when you believe and give it your utmost effort to be free from tyranny ...miracles can happen! So fight the good fight my friends and fear not pain for the agony of not trying will be greater punishment to your eternal soul.
