*SPOILERS* I recap the ENTIRE plot in these videos. I make these for my own memories as well as for a platform where I can discuss the book after finishing it.
so...what did you think of the book?????
I’m so glad I found this! This is EXACTLY how I felt too! It was like wait, that’s it!? And the way she just ran out of the bar when the guy realized who Bailey really was. I was like wtf. And why give up your husband just to help the grandpa have a relationship with Bailey? And “Owen” never seeing his daughter again didn’t seem natural either. “Protect her”, yet no explanation, nothing. And to protect her you’re going to give up her relationship with her father to have a relationship with the person she needs the most protecting from? And either way, no dad or whiteness protection, her life won’t be the same, so why not start over again with your kid so she has her dad and not some mafia grandpa on Sundays. Not sure why this book has so many stars or a series.

I know this is an older comment, but THANK YOU. This is exactly how I felt. The whole “yeah I’ll protect her by bringing in the mafia every now and then for brunch and keeping her from her father for life” made literally no sense to me. I was left thinking “…and?” At the end of the book. Such a disappointment.
Completely agree with every point. Added to that, i hated her overexplaining everything. Like: "i went there. I went there to find out XY about Owen. The XY i needed to get to the truth".. like, we KNOW!! just get on with this non- existent plot and have this boring story over with!!!
I honestly felt like I didn’t read the same book that was getting all of the hype and rewards. One of the worst “thrillers” I’ve read. A very boring plot, and bland characters. The story was uninteresting and the ending was so cheesy. Wasted my time on this one. Legitimately shocked this got picked up for TV. If anyone has some good actual thriller recs, would love to try something new!

Thank you so much for reviewing the book I was thinking of reading it after watching the show on Apple plus which I enjoyed but it sounds like the book was much like the show. It makes you wonder how these books get to be best sellers or win awards et cetera.
I just finished this monstrosity and I looked up reviews. I thought I must have missed something? Apparently not, it was just terrible
Finally an honest review of this very melodramatic,not thrilling, at times nauseating story. Some people may enjoy books like this but from other reviews on UA-cam you would think it’s like the book of the year. At some points the book is mildly entertaining but is lacking in many categories. The flash backs are corny and overall it reads like a trashy romance novel or hallmark channel drama. 😢
Just started it and wasn’t able to put it down for over 2 hours. I liked it. I feel your dislike for it was over dramatic… but to each their own 😉

Ugh, thank you so much though: I was watching the apple tv series and could not get to episode 3 (landing in stupid Austin for no reason except, Jennifer Garner "Hunch!") and I stopped the crap and came to get the "spoiler ending explained" and even the funny spoiler YT video was boring. The book must have been better by far if you say the first half was 'okay'. No part of the TV series is intriguing. I barely watched the first episode, and decided to try episode 2 anyway. Wasted hour. *But lovely review!* The material was so bad, I'm cancelling Apple TV because they opted to make a series out of that trash book.
I just finished the book and tbh I enjoyed it but I didn’t liked the end , i was expecting Owen to be back, I feel like the book is incomplete without Owen coming back.
