Man, this guy was my hero, when I was trying to first stand up on my original one design, complete with teak boom, mast base and the nasty metal universal joint. 30 years later passed beyond being a hero, he's a living legend. No drugs, no scandals just pure ability and humility.
Same with me Ian! I was lucky enough to meet and sail with RN at a Mistral PR event at The Gorge in Hood River, OR. He, Peter Cabrina and a few others. This was back in Aug of 1984 the wind was howling at around 40+ knots and I’m not exaggerating!
as a chid growing up in the 90 i was a big bjorn fan but robby, jason, and all those awesome sailors who werent driven to be the best kept my enthuisiasm high, nowasays after a 20 year absent its my old hero who got me back. robby you will always be the goat. yhx for being you and sharing it:)
i fucked up in life finacially and got my shit together with help after 20 yrs, being homeless for 10 of those yrs but i kept track of you, great teacher in doing what you love in live and givin it 100% greatings from eindhoven, netherlands :)
I've met Robbie twice and both times really made an impression on me, as I'm a lifelong windsurfer since 1984 (now a kiter) and he has always been the King in my book. Last time I ran into him was in 2017 on Maui at Kanaha on a light wind day. He was by himself in his VW van, doing R&D on a windsurf foil board with a 4.7 wave sail and no harness. He launched it off the beach and started planing right away while other people were out there schlogging on 6.5 meter sails and big floaty boards. He told me he was hoping that foiling would breathe new life into windsurfing. And now watching him with the Wind Wing ... he's always finding new ways to have fun on the water.
Here a reaction from Holland. Robby you are the best. We are about the same age. I have still got your windsurfbooks “ Windsurfing with R.N” I learned the duke jibe out of these books. Or the railride. In those days very cool. Ha ha. On a Mistral Naishboard, made by your father! My god. What a great time. I still dream about surfing in condissions you’r surfing in. Windsurfing IS a passion an STAYS a passion. Even at 56!!
"Mr. Windsurfing" - Robby Naish! A legend and a pioneer of the sport yes... but still humble and a kind hearted soul even after all these years. Long may you run brother!
US-1111 is a legend. Used to watch your vids on my VHS when I was a kid, dreaming on windsurfing in Maui. Still on my bucket list. Thanks for being an inspiration Mr.Naish.
Same here....started windsurfing at 13....now 47....met the King Personally when I was living in Kailua for a while. Great man in every way. I have never lived life as a spectator but iI have had three heroes; Robby being the first to manifest. The other two are Julian Assange and the Russian who prevented nuclear world war by not pressing the launch button against orders because his instinct told him it was a false alarm by the radar systems. -Humanity at its best. Shocking for me was to see the KIng talk like that at the beginning of this video, about getting old. I never ever thought he would, or even could, get older! Please not now; not now where everything else is falling apart. THANK YOU for all the years of great action, all the great inspiration to pursue dreams no matter what. Watching you sail jaws I am more than convinced that you will keep going for at least 100 more years, Robby. Godspeed, Daniel
Ditto. For some reason I let life get in the way, I’m now back and loving my windsurfing again. Started windsurfing when I was 14 watching Robby and Bjorn I’m now 47. I’m super inspired by those older than me still kicking it and making the sport look easy.
Still separating the men from the boys - even after all these years! Robby - your a big inspiration to keep the surf spirit over so many years and forget the age.
Hi Robby!! I'm 61 , frenchman, and I've been following you for years (in fact since you were 12-13 yo!! Long long time 😄😄😄 You're realy the best waterman ever!! I remember a lot of souvenirs about you, ....I saw you in Paris for the indoor too 👍 the tiger in the bathroom!! 😂😂😂 Nice to see you still having so much fun and sharing it with us ...the poor humans ( cause we obviously aren't from the same planet!!👽 Great thank's Meister for all the joy you give to us all that time all around the world !!!! 🙏😊🙏 Nice to be able with YT to say that to you Robby!! Friendly , Aloha!! Richard Lionheart from France 👍😎🇫🇷
I started windsurfing in 1977 as a 10 year old kid. Robby was already a world champion and an inspiration back then. I still wind- and kitesurf and Robby still inspires me. I’ll have to start wingfoiling...
Hi! Robby is spectacular. For windsurf it's like Picasso for cubism. He draws the waves with a special class. After 30 years and more same emotion. Thanks.
Pure class this video, obviously with Robby sailing Jaws, but also the light touch with the soundtrack, choosing light tracks not distracting from the sailing, big up to the music producer for this video, and of course Robby who continues to inspire windsurfers everywhere. The downwinder to the harbor, Robby floating over the speedboat's wake was a great bonus.
I have loved following and watching Robby Naish my entire life in wind surfing. Still do and nothing has changed, makes me smile every time. I took up windsurfing in the early 80's and I still windsurf in the Gorge at 61. I went snowboarding yesterday at Skibowl then came home and watched Robby on video. Everybody I know feels the same about Robby Naish, we all love him!
Hi Robbie--It is so great that you are still on the water and and riding everything in your path. it brings tears of happiness to my eyes just to watch you sail. A poster you autographed for me in the early 80's remains on my wall as an inspiration from the ultimate waterman.
I love to see that you are still in shape Robby! I have not windsurfed for many years, but just watching these images makes me yearn for the good times spent on a board. By the way, that Deep House music is fantastic ......
Great video - I enjoyed you sharing your thoughts in the car before and after as much as the actual footage ! ...wonderful to hear your mind set and hear the thoughts of someone who has truly done it all before and after a Jaws session. Truly amazing from the perspective of this average windsurfer. Thanks for a small peak into your current world been following your exploits for 40 years
I got to spend 3 days with this legend in Cabarete in the 1980s . He was and is the nicest guy. We were out riding and he broke his fin 1 km from shore . We came back together and he was still in total control of his board and still faster than me even without a fin! We would go to lunch at el Duro bar and he was just a regular guy. Robby you may not remember me but you will always be my friend!
Robby - you are still my hero...you are magic...you have been my hero when I started windsurfing with 12...now I am 50 and still you are...greetings from cold Germany...awesome video...and by the way...the pivot rocks...
So happy to see you riding with this spécial class. I'm 46. 30 Years you inspiring people. So much respect. Great spirit. Full of joy to see you still riding. Youen from Tahiti. Mauruuru Robby 🙏☺️
Longevity, passion, humility, clean lines, style. The King of my young years is still a first class waterman and shows us that way of life is much more important than World Tour titles.
I have two sports heroes in my life, Ingemar Stenmark and Robby Naish. They have both had a big impact on my life because they were and still are such legends and great ambassedeurs of their respective sport and the reason(s) why I took up both alpine skiing and windsurfing in the late seventies. I am now in my mid sixties and windsurfing and skiing are still my two favourite outdoor hobbies and I'm pretty certain both are to "blame" that I'm still in pretty good shape considering my biological age. Thanks for all the joy, and the very best wishes from Oz! Robbie made his surfing on the absolutely messy North Sea in the Netherlands look like ballet. It was only white water, and Robbie was the only one to show perfect moves, turns and jumps. Back in the early eighties he participated in a competition. I was just starting out and his performance and perseverance inspired me so much I'm windsurfing to this day. Indeed a legend and a kindhearted soul.

Thx for taking us all along on your sessions on the water :) Hearing you talk so calm, honest and open about jaws and getting older does not reduce my admiration, grattitude and respect for what you've done for the surf/water-world in any way. On the contrary, you age with grace and you are still an amazingly inspiring waterman - It only seems natural to let go a bit of the extremes in the sport. Even though you are 17 years older than me, you are still a more fit surfer than me. Many free-surfers like myself never even dared to go (or felt like going) out to big waves like jaws, even when younger. So don't you worry too much about one day letting go of jaws :D haha For me the essence of being in/on the water has little to do with competition or prestige, it's a gift - a privilegie which so many watermen/women around the globe find, if they keep coming out there. man, my now dead father was a big fan of you when surfing came to germany. i read an interview long time ago and now you are still here. so sympathic, danke mann, du sprichst auch sehr gut deutsch rob. good luck for the future!
40 years ago I saw a video with Robby doing the pipeline. It was amazing, inspired me to start windsurfing and still does till this day. He’s an artist!
US1111 still out there shredding! How I miss my days living, surfing and windsurfing on beautiful Maui. I used to live a little up the street from you and drove past your house all the time. Much respect, Robby.😀🤙🏼
Saw you as a teenager for a demo at the Belgian coast (Oostende) in heavy weather - I was a windsurfer at the time as well. Never forgot that moment. You had a home made board, with straps glued on - as they didn't really exist yet. It will stay with me forever.
Robby was our sailboard shop's poster boy back in '81. We kept trying to emulate towards his moves, in our own Michigan, Mom and Pop retail store kind-of-way. I never got close, but my buddy Randy did. Robby was inspiring, just from the magazines alone.
G'day maaaate, good to see you showing the kids how its done. Also to hear your opening comments is wise words from a true seasoned waterman. Always modest and humble brah. Aloha and be safe Kaina living in the Gr8 Southern coast West Oz.
it s still so awsome whatching him windsurfing in the big waves - the hero of my youth. he was the reason I started windsurfing in a age of 19...now I am into surfing...
Aloha Robbie, it feels good to be brought along and then see Mr. Smooth droppin in. I enjoyed it, man. Ain't life wondrous? You still da man, Robbie. Mahalo neighbor, mahalo.
I've met you in 1995 and brought as a gift some brazilian coffee LOL. I have the photo of you, me and the coffee. By that time, you werre already windsurfing God/king! and some 25 years later... you still are and will always be!
Rock on Robby, first time viewer, and had no idea you hold 23 world titles, that's awesome! You've got me by a year, so there is hope for me yet, and we were both born in So Cal, so glad to see your still at it and looking great! Blessings my friend, and see you at the Poppermost! :)
robby is a real example for all of us. Still strong, brave, riding double mast high waves, but humble. That's what not only a champion but a real man is made of...
You see that number on the water, US-1111, you know you are in the presence of greatness. 40+ years of skills. Tearing up Jaws at 57, that is gladiator stuff.
It doesn't look like you're to old to be out there Man!!!in fact it's quite the oposite, you look so comfortable and on point out there!keep on shredding, you are such an inspirational persone!just an outstanding human being and impeccable waterman!!

You and your pink US 1111 have always had the ability to me smile, scream, and happy cry simultaneous! Simply. The. BEST. thanks!
Thanks for sharing. Have watched so much surf footage of the recent run of swell at jaws, it was great to see some windsurf footage.

Saw Robbie in Florida keys around 25 years ago but too in awe to approach. A total legend
The definition of Legend US 1111 👌🏽
One 1 missing! US11111
When he jumped off the boat onto his board ... did anyting more than his ankles get wet for the wholes session? I'm 50+ he was an inspiration for my windsurf first wave teenage self. Never have and never will sail like him or in such a stunning location, but he's such a good human I have no envy.
His exit off the boat was pure class
That jump off the boat, I thought: no way, Robby!’s gonna wet his boardshorts. He did not!

G'day maaaate, good to see you showing the kids how its done. Also to hear your opening comments is wise words from a true seasoned waterman. Always modest and humble brah. Aloha and be safe Kaina living in the Gr8 Southern coast West Oz.

Aloha Robbie, it feels good to be brought along and then see Mr. Smooth droppin in. I enjoyed it, man.
Ain't life wondrous?
You still da man, Robbie. Mahalo neighbor, mahalo.
Robby i appreciate your modesty. You are an example. No more loud poseors, standout. A modest person stays longer
I've met you in 1995 and brought as a gift some brazilian coffee LOL. I have the photo of you, me and the coffee. By that time, you werre already windsurfing God/king! and some 25 years later... you still are and will always be!
Respect. Classic. The beauty of the sport. Shows love. No speed freaks, or crazy freestyle. The real deal.
Looks awesome! Wing down wind looks like so much fun! I’m psyched for that when I can finally afford it
Does anyone know the name of the song starting at 2:48? Really loved that one....
Robby tu sei il poeta del windsurf ...... Robby you are the windsurfing poet

A day in the life. Thanks for sharing. We were in awe seeing you in the Gorge back in the day. Nice boat!
Thanks for showing us how easy it is. So many make it look scary & dangerous. You put the wind in surfing.

So great to see Robby like this :) But one day my man its over and just to remember your beautiful wave riding :) Thanks for sharing this with me.
Robby is definitely a legend he is the Tiger Woods of Windsurfing. I moved to Maui in 1990 after seeing him in magazines.
For Robbie Naish, mastering the wind and surfing on the sea looks as natural as walking for all of us.
Man, we've got almost the same age and must give that to you, those big balls haven't shrunk with the age. Total respect for a legend.
very nice video, I am a funbord fan but unfortunately in year 85 I never got the opportunity to test it... very nice experience
Robbie you are a legend & an inspiration to so many!
Such a legend and an inspiration to all windsurfers. You're awesome bro. Love your vids. I hope to be windsurfing Hood river, Oregon this spring soon.
Only Robby can make wing foiling not look awkward. Good stuff
You see that number on the water, US-1111, you know you are in the presence of greatness. 40+ years of skills. Tearing up Jaws at 57, that is gladiator stuff.
