    You are the only person on the internet that tells the truth about the Kemper. I owned one about 4 years ago. I had the same issues and I tried to get answers on their forum. Mr Kemepr himself even responded. His answer: "I must buy their DI". BS!!!!!! I ended up buying a Fractal Axe FX III and sold my Kemper the next day. I also own a Headrush Prime and Tonex. The Tonex does it.....evrytime! The Headrush....sometimes?

    I agree 100 percent. I’ve had a powered Kemper since 2016, it’s needs an update plus the mid-range annoying sound that some people hear and others don’t. It can be fixed because other units can capture noticeably better.

      Thanks for commenting. Yeah, I forgot to mention the "cocked wah" sound that happens on the Kemper as well. Sometimes that happens and it drives me nuts

    I completely agree with you, and I support this idea of updating a new algorithm for Kemper, I’m sure the development guys will be able to implement it))

    I agree with alot of this but the Kemper being the first needs a clean studio grade signal to profile

    Thanks for posting this Jared. I thought about getting the powered Kemper to do an AB comparison of my own against my KSR PA50 and QC through my Mesa OS and ENGL E412XXL but this video answered that question for me. I appreciate you saving me the money dude 🤘🏼

      My pleasure, the Kemper does do a lot of profiles very well, I just wish it was more consistent

      Having a combined PA and profiler is a huge benefit, but it clearly isn’t in the same level as the QC. I sent a superchat with a personal thank because of this video, with some additional requests I’d hope you’d consider for the future. I hope you have time to read through it as I believe there are a lot of people watching your channel wondering the same things. Have a good weekend brother and thanks again for the video 🤘🏼

    Had the Kemper for ages and I find it works best with less distorted sounds. Even the commercial high gain profiles are a fuzzy mess. It's defo had It's day

      Thanks for commenting. That's exactly where I'm at with it as well. It's just really inconsistent with high gain tones. All of the other stuff it does very well. Hopefully he fixes that issue soon

    I had hit or miss experience with my Kemper back in the day as well. Some profiles would sound spot on and others would just be all kinds of wrong.
    I sold mine but I still stand by my mentality that the Kemper is still the best feeling modeler/profiler/digital thing on the market.
    After a year using the axe fx III and then scaling down to the FM3, I can't imagine going back. Both our singer and bass player have QC's and they're nice and I've spent time in my studio with them setting up profiles for our singer/rhythm player but the core sound of the Fractal units sits just right with my ears personally.

      Really? I've never had a kemper but I have and love my qc, I've never tried a fractal though so now I'm a bit interested, I'm always willing to try new things, I had thought the qc sounded/feels better than anything I've tried so far so been sticking with it for the last year or so

    For me in the beginning, I wanted to get a kemper because it was the most reliable thing out there and you can put real actual amps in it. But, it was expensive as hell, so I got different other amp sims (Neural dsp, Amplitube and STL Tones). Then, when the tonex came out I'm like "this is it" because you can do the same profiles and captures as the kemper and can hear and feel the sound of the amp as the kemper. So, the tonex is the next best thing and I'm glad I bought it.onex

    Capturing/profiling frustrations are beyond annoying. That was my experience with the Tone-X 95% of the time with that turd. It's just easier for me to stick with amp modeling vs. profiling ime.

    This and the extra compression, the aliasing and the just ok effects.
    Kemper is always like that = guitarist buy them, find them very easy and cool to play and after 6 months to 2-3 years they resale it.
    Only the Axefx and TH-U had me on the long term.
    Still something I don’t like with ToneX and QC but Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) is definitely the best

    I realize this is a Kemper video but what would u recommend in quad cortex vs tone x? Thinking of finally getting a profiling unit and you have spoken highly of both of them and I respect your opinion. Thanks.

      @TONEWARSgearshow  2 місяці тому

      It really comes down to budget and a few other things. Are you planning on doing your own profiles?

    • @Marcus.81
      @Marcus.81 2 місяці тому

      Yes probably doing some own profiles. I have several high gain amps and I know people like you also sell captures for purchase of other amps I don’t own. Budget is a consideration but not the main thing. I’d rather save up a little for a superior product if needed. Looks like quad cortex is a good bit more expensive than tone x but I’ve seen a lot of good stuff about that unit as well. Thanks for all the great info and content.

      @@Marcus.81I have had my qc for about a year and absolutely love it,I have 7 high gain tube amps that I was able to profile very well with it, the profiles that come loaded on it are just ok, but there's alot of professional profiles out there, including ones from this channel and I plan to purchase a bunch from him in the next couple weeks. It's all abIt's all about the complex fuzz component; the easiest way is to try to make a fuzz pedal profile, and it will immediately become clear what the problem is. By the way, Tonex has the same problem, but it still copes, it doesn’t sound as crap, but still not at all what the pedal sounds like. Amplifiers such as rectifier or heavily overloaded are difficult to profile. And so throughout the digital world, everyone is good at parodying 800 Marshall, and doing a bad job with a rectifier.

    i am a big kemper fanboy but having said that i appreciate your opinon since you have a lot more exprience in profiling amps tham i do.me as a viewer have a really hard time to get any opinion of my own because of the volume difference in this compression video between all of the units inculding the amp are pretty big,i'll just take your word for it.

    I actually just traded away my Kemper for a Fractal FM9. I could never get my Kemper to profile my EVH 5150 III, kept telling me I had a gate in the chain. Kept my Tonex for profiling. Yes I picked Tonex over Kemper.

      The noise gate in the chain is something I get about 75% of the time and just ignore it. My 6505+ never profiles. I just gave up trying to do it.

    There's like ten thousand videos on UA-cam of high gain amps being Profiled perfectly...and there's like 10,000 high gain metal Profiles to download that all sound fantastic.
    Including Ola Englund who did a 2024 Profile for his Kemper Player review video a few weeks ago.
    Maybe you need to do a software flash on your Kemper...

    Thank you for saving me the time and money of doing this comparison. Also, I’d like to request a video (or some videos) of your detailed studio rig so I better understand some of the tools you’re using and implement if beneficial for my purposes (which is seemingly the case). For example, what amp switch are you using and why? What do you use the OxBox for? I understand using it as a reactive load and attenuator, but I mainly see you profile with the QC. So, what’s the actual benefit of the OxBox aside from it being a load box and attenuator. I mean the Torpedo Captor X is way cheaper and seemingly does the same thing, but if I’m wrong and it would be useful I’d like to understand how and why. Also, I see you using an iPad to switch between configurations, so what software are you using to do that, and are there others you’d recommend? Last but certainly not least, would you please consider making a tutorial on how to setup I/O and the cabling to capture third-party plugins with the QC? For example, I use an Apollo x4 and studio one, and I’ve tried every BS recommendation I’ve read on forums forever, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to capture a plugin like Otto Audio with some additional tweaking using other plugins when running from guitar, to Apollo, through Sudio One, and into my QC. There is so much we can do nowadays with technology, but how do we use it and do so right, and in which circumstances is it beneficial or not. Sorry for the novel of a message dude, but I’m a subscriber and fan of the channel and wanted to show some gratitude with a $20 token of my appreciation for saving me money and make the requests I did for future videos. Im a basement/bedroom rockstar who jams with some local bands on occasion and I’d like to have a better understanding of home recording for my own purposes just to monitor my progression and correctly use some of these badass tools that are available which I don’t completely understand how to use. As always, thanks for investing the money, time, and effort into making our lives and more importantly our investments and tones better bro 🤘🏼

      Thank you so much for the donation and for the kind words and questions.
      I can answer a few of your questions right here. Regarding the ox box, I use it as a cab Sim whenever I want to play live on the channel and keep the volume down. The cab Sims are absolutely amazing. The secondary use I have for it is I use the DI out when I'm doing amp captures on quad cortex, Kemper and tonex.
      The iPad is used to control my mixer. The stream deck is programmed to switch amps and put pictures up at the same time

    Hate to say it but I think the reason is that it can’t really be done with the current hardware. He is an amazing innovator and developer and has clearly poured his soul into this effort and produced incredible updates. If it could be done he would have already done it.

    Unfortunately, I think an update on the algorithm will not happen due to the processing power of the Kemper. Doing Machine learning tasks like the ToneX and Quad Cortex takes a lot of processing power, and especially if you compare DSP chips and their capacities around 2010-2011 vs. 2017-18 (Quad Cortex), thats a huge difference.
    My personal recommendation would be to familiarize yourself with NAM sooner or later, since hardware for that is in development and will perhaps draw a big crowd into this once more, and leave the Kemper aside until they eventually release a Kemper II or something. Even though Christoph Kemper is stating all the time that there is no need for a Kemper II, also he cannot unsee the imminent issues that will arise with sticking to older chips: from end of life dates for the currently used processing unit, to more and more complaints of users to a fierce competition, the Kemper II has to be released sooner or later.
